Summer in Spain (again)

Well we had a quiet night. There are supposed to be wild boar 🐗 visiting during the night but we didn't hear anything.

We did hear the breadman 10 minutes ago. We didn't need bread this morning, but I hope he comes tomorrow.

Martin's getting the bikes ready for today's magical tour.

We had another fridge defrost yesterday. We levelled the van better and it's working well again. We'll have to put up being dictated to by a fridge for the levelness of the van 😂. We need it to keep the beers cold.

Martin's just been to the service point and found a very nice pair of Salomon walking shoes (his size by coincidence 🤣) he's brought them underneath our van and left a note in their place.

I hope the owner hasn't travelled too far before realising.

It's usually a step, isn't it scousebird 😊

Martin jumar must be a decent person
When we visit some country and see a bike leaning on a street lamp, without a lock, we always wonder how long it would remain there if it were Spain :ROFLMAO:

We got back from our ride and the German woman from the orange van wrongly parked 😂 right across from us, came to tell us the shoes had been collected and she'd been asked to say thank you from the Spanish guy who thought he'd lost them for good.

He left us a tiny memento. A few pieces of quartz. (Martin would have preferred a bottle of something 🤣, but heyho, just glad they were collected).

Our ride took us, mainly, on small roads, some heading back to nature. We stopped at a ruined hamlet. We remembered we'd been here before, but we arrived via a x-country route that time.

We then went to a small harbour and saw a diver. We waited, and waited, and he emerged. We then waited even longer to watch him retrieve his float and ...... nothing 😂

We continued through more sleepy hamlets and stopped to talk to some lovely horses.

We then arrived into the works. I don't know what they do there, but the reservoir is red (as seen on Google), except for a fish farm. We watched for ages, and didn't see one caught. (They must all be Martins, not gulls) 😂

We rode through Jove/Xove and through some old hamlets that still have a name (and a road of sorts, with a road number), but no longer have any buildings you could enter.

And then popped back out into civilisation.

I think this must be tradition? A lot of the older buildings have these roofs with slates and these lumps.

We were almost back at the parking area when we stopped to speak to three Spaniard mountainbikers. One was pushing his bike. Martin asked if he needed help/tools but the guy said he'd broken a part on the bike and it needed a new one. Tools wouldn't help. Gracias 🫠

How not to do it... French family on FREE official Aire provided for my local council....40 official places, but that's not good enough...prefers to park, others did also, adjacent to picnic area, take possession of picnic bench and grassed area, spread out, erect outside toilet, (Better than using adjacent sand dunes)
Refused to move up a little to allow another Spanish van in....the Spanish lady spoke to them in Spanish, English and some French...but they wouldn't budge...Just the attitude we need....off to have breakfast in a few moments on the French vans table...😀🥳🇪🇦

A step too far from the French I think.
I hate to say this but if you can afford such a lovely wee camper you can afford to go to a campsite.
We get the comment in an A class when freedom camping but we don't commandeer shared areas like that.

So, today we had our last ride, of this stay, from here. We rode to the busy town of Viveiro, before heading steeply uphill to the Mirador. Unfortunately, our route missed the top, but we were there last year, so no big deal.

Instead we rode across some high moorland areas before, eventually, dropping down to Jove again. Not only do they have the super motorhome area and pump park, they also have this great kids playground.

The ride back from there was on easy roads and, when we arrived back the French van had left. Did they go or were they pushed!?

We had no need to help anyone today, so it's been very tranquil. It's quite busy though. A bridging, long, weekend, yesterday was Galicia Day. Unfortunately that means tomorrow it might be difficult to find a nice spot, and there's not a lot that we know about here inland. But we'll shop and, maybe, use a laundrette, and then decide, and find somewhere.

But back to today.

On route to, and overlooking Viveiro.

And later ... (The Mirador bit is missing, but I'll find some of last years photos later). So only the kids playground at Jove to show.

What a beautiful sunny day you did have!
Viveiro is the place (with international renoum) of the most important Heavy Metal festival in Spain and one of the biggest ones in Europe, Resurrection Fest😀🤟

That seems like a time to be well away from Viveiro 😂

Come on....who saw this rain ☔ coming...only light, but can dampen the beach holidaymakers day...
For us it's arrived on a day we had selected to catch up on various domestic chores...
Laundry and shopping are loosely scheduled, but our flexible approach to traveling may adjust our day and requirements..
Got leisure and bike batteries topped up with a good number of solar rays ☀️
I've just checked the weather for early next week...on the coast here it's low twenties, however just one hour inland puts the daytime temperatures up by 10°c to a 32°c not somewhere we expect to be...

Washing done. I had to help a young guy who couldn't work out how the machines worked. My reward, was him saying I understood Spanish well! Numbers and washing machines arent a big challenge, are they? 🤣. The shopping was done, by Martin. We have some interesting meals for the future 😊😘. Today's was very nice. Then we pulled into our present spot. A picnic area, not far from Viveiro. There were some guys with serious cameras.

I had a look around. Nice river. Nice figs on an overhanging tree. We have one each to eat tomorrow with ham and cheese.

We then took the 2km stroll from here and back. Wikiloc showed some ponies, I've got the same piccies. We then arrived at the turnaround, at the same time as a couple, with small dog, arrived from the opposite direction.

(Martin had his fix of ponies, ponies and dogs, and dogs alone. I picked some fennel and mint to have on our salad. We're both happy 😂)

The couple were from Madrid, here for a few weeks holiday, for cooler weather. (Soooo easy to understand them, we'd do much better living there. Or maybe not, we like our Murcian winters).

On our return, we saw why the photographers were waiting. A wedding photoshoot was taking place. It appears that immediate family, etc. were there for some photos, because a road train of happy, vocal, people went past, and waved, just after we got back. We hope they're quiet on their return 🤣

"What a grey day" on the coast...however we are avoiding a return to the interior, the temperature is set to rocket again....32°c just an hour from here...we can make do with 23°c it's more comfortable for motorhome life and cycling....
Very busy port parking at Espasante, where the official bays are full and other vans are taking up the car parking slots...
We, perhaps me. chose a vacant place which turned out to have two dogs and a old couple as neighbours.. perhaps younger than me I suppose...a good talker is the lady, in fact she hasn't shut up since we arrived , the dogs barked occasionally, however we managed to keep up to date with local news and the latest from the Paris Olympics...the TV was on but they were talking to passerbys...away from the van....how they knew I was a sports fan I do not know....They went out with the dogs about half an hour ago...TV turned off....and just the sounds of the waves returned...
I hope to be well into Siesta mode before their return....🤭🥳🇪🇦👍

So, as Martin said, we're at Espasante. We've been here before but it's busier today than any previous visit we've had. It's not quite as comfortable, but only because of the numbers of motorhomes, some which seem to manage to stay for weeks, even though there are no services, only a water tap.

Anyway. We're here for tonight.

That looks a lovely area to visit 😊, but the parking so close wouldn’t suit us ☹️. We had 24C today and tomorrow it should be 27C. Too hot yo be pleasant really. How we managed to live in Murcia I cannot remember 😜

We don't like parking like this either. We're not staying another night and this place will probably be crossed off for future visits. We've never seen it so full. Pity.

We'd go inland by preference but the temperatures there are forecast to be over 30° over the next week or so. Far too hot for us.

We'll just have to keep trying to find quieter places. It can be done!

There seems to be a fair few long stayers here, mostly older men on their own. It still begs an answer to as to where they empty their loos. There's a tap for water on the edge of the beach, and rubbish bins, but nothing else. Even the excellent restaurant has closed down, so no sneaking in there with a holdall.

We're riding from here today and then heading to Ortiguera (that does have a service point) and then finding somewhere quieter for tonight. Less people, quiet. It was silent here from 11 pm. Even the loud couple next door fell silent, but it's still too overcrowded for our liking.

This morning we moved to the entrance because we had space there to open the garage doors. That put us next to one of the "old guys long staying".

20240729120909_IMG_0174.JPG

Sneaked a photo through the door flyscreen.

🤣🤣🤣 the old guy is a year younger than Martin 😨. He's from Bilbao and has been coming here for 23 years. He told us about our present parking place.

We've moved a huge 1.2 k away. We have shade, and no-one next to us, except for a car. We'd actually spotted this place when we set off on our ride.

We can manage with our toilet for a day or so longer, so here we are for this afternoon/tonight.
