Stolen from drive – what happened next?

But this isn't a pub😏

That was my thought. Thats why I started a second thread, i.e. what happened next. And now something HAS happened, I shall open a thread Mark 3!!
Where are they?

I agree 125BEER .
I came on here to find out if the OP had found their van or what progress had been made with the insurance, but I can’t be bothered trawling through all the off-topic threads.
I must admit, I have been known to go off at a tangent a few times, but this one is exceptional.🤯
Don’t worry - I still love you all🤍
So do I!

unless the stolen motorhomes are going to a place like this, unfortunately it looks like theres no way of getting them back,

Fit a OBD port blocker . .

Ashdown in the vehicle the cars are entered by lock picking and then the start/immobiliser is overridden using a OBD scanner.
Couple this with wheel clamp(s), steering wheel lock bar, and even a seat swivel lock (lock seat facing rearwards) will go a long way to stopping your pride and joy from disappearing !!

Grow up. Vast majority of police are hard working and take pride in their occupation. Perhaps this pathetic government should address the shortfall in police numbers for a start. Likewise all the public sector. Stop knocking and start supporting!
I absolutely agree with your post the police have a really hard job to do and to be knocked when things are not to our liking does not help one little bit, I’m not a copper but I have seen them under pressure and have to deal with non policing issues such as people with mental health problems that I have recently seen in our seaside town.

No, it's just that I don't want to tempt providence. There has been a promise made, payment is in the offing. Nothing has landed yet, The bubbly is still in the fridge. Has anyone got a really nice pvc for sale?
Good luck (y)

The public confidence in policing seems to have wayned in recent years.
As an example I live in a small village, which has a 30mph limit, but like many areas we consistently have those who choose to ignore the limit. To try and tackle this, we managed (as a village) to get the local police to undertake a few spot checks, they sent a PSCO (who looked about 12 😳) with a speed gun.
The upshot is they reported back saying they had monitored around 15% exceeding the limit by an average of 5mph (35 in a 30) and 3% exceeded at 10 mph or more) so 7 to 8 vehicles out of 250 on that day . . BUT . .

Based on a sample of over 250 vehicles this was acceptable and did not warrant stoping/issuing penalties !!! (Not enough fines to cover the cost of operating a speed trap for a day)

So the Police think it is 'ok' to drive at 40mph+ in a 30mph limit as long as it's just a few and the average speed is within limits 😳 😳

Unbelievable !!!!

I've no idea. I assumed Europe, but as you suggest, Ireland being rhd, makes more sense. If you call that sense. I've been checking UK used van sales sites, perhaps I should look at the Irish sites. As long as that isn't racist!
You'd be stunned how many RHD vehicles are in Albania. Mercedes seems the car of choice :(

As a lot of these are shipped off to other countries and large sums of money are involved I'm surprised the various exports companies or authorities are not obliged to somehow verify ownership or the vehicles VIN. Ho hum....

3% at 10mph over doesn't seem too bad to me to be honest.

I’ve come to the conclusion that The Police do nothing……..because that’s what some people believe.

No matter what they do it’s not good enough, not what they should be doing, targeting the wrong people or types of crimes, Policing in the wrong areas, targeting the cash cow motorists……and the list goes on.

You just can’t please everyone all of the time, and some you can never please at all. :(

I attended a Residents Association Meeting, where they complained to me about speeders through the estate.

I said I would give it some attention when my shift pattern allowed.

I didn’t tell anyone, just turned up one day……only people I caught were residents…..my fault I guess. 🤷‍♂️

It resulted in a complaint to my Boss……I declined any further invites to their meetings.

I was in charge of the final salary staff pension scheme in the firm where I worked. Gordon Brown decided to take a lump of tax out for the government and the government also introduced compulsory increases in employer contributions. Our scheme was in surplus at the time and always had been. In consultation with the staff we converted to a defined contribution scheme and distributed all the surplus rateably amongst the staff. We were not prepared to have government dictate the terms of our pension scheme! You won’t find many final salary schemes about nowadays in the private sector- all because of the Labour government!
You are absolutely right. I remember that Brown move was one of their first actions when him and Tony B-Liar took over. In just a few decades we have now gone from having pensions that were the envy of the world to something akin to a tombola.

Know what you mean, but "targeting" anything really means giving up on the rest. What about some zero tolerance.
I'm not so sure the police in my area are capable of prioritising things. It's only a few months ago that more that six vehicles and over a dozen officers were sent to deal with a local man who was 'known to them', had climbed a tree and was shouting at passers by. He wasn't even high up or causing a threat to anyone and I know this because Mrs L couldn't get out of the leisure centre car park due to the 'major police incident'! I'm not bashing the police and I hope they'll be there in my hour of need but this incident highlighted a clear example of disproportionate response and more importantly, where else could these officers have been making an impact?

If you are lucky you will have a final salary membership and personal pensions that way you may have some guaranteed income coming in, in retirement and personal pension which you can flexibly withdraw to suit lifestyle
Not boring at all Mr Spotter and pensions seems to be the main topic of conversation with my mates now we have reached a certain age 😆

For me and Mrs L, the opportunity to transfer out of our frozen DB pensions couldn't come soon enough. The thought of our pensions 'disappearing back into the pot' should we both go at the same time on our travels was too much to bear. At least now our family will still benefit 'if' we leave anything after all our travel plans 😆

Why, after spending a lot of money on a van, do owners never go down the tracker route? After all, you spend thousands on the van and for a fraction of the price, a tracker will give some peace of mind.
Yesterday, the van central locking didn't work, so I manually locked the doors with the key. After checking the hab and drivers door, I just merely touched the passengers door handle and the alarms went off. Before the siren and flashing indicators had stopped, I had a call from the tracker HQ informing me that the security system had been compromised. If it had not been myself that had triggered the alarm, the tracking company would have immobilised the vehicle straightaway.

In the last 10 years, our house has been broken into twice with cars taken off the drive both times. The last, just before the first lock down when I was working upstairs just after midnight. The only one we got back had a tracker thanks to Audi. As a result, the moho is fitted with Metatrak (thanks eddievanbitz ) and I've already had two calls from their Operations Centre. Once on the Eurotunnel when I forgot to put it in transit mode and again just last week when I was taking it to storage with just the spare ignition key. The tracker was triggered because the moho was moving without the fob. Oops. Mrs L rolled her eyes when we first got the bill from VanBitz but has since been converted by the speed at which issues have been detected and acted upon. So add that to the fact that a scrote would need to ignore the alarm and circumvent the immobiliser (after all the physical stuff too) and I'm happy that I've done as much as I can do to protect our 'second home'.
