Stolen from drive – what happened next?

He'll get financial compensation. Victims of serious crimes won't.
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority is there to compensate victims of violence.

It is a UK Gov. scheme and has been ongoing for more than 40yrs. to my certain knowledge.

Its hard to support when it takes five Police officers to attend the arrest of a terminally ill man who's crime is "mooning" at a Police speed camera.

We had gypsies on our Caravan Touring Park and we couldn't get any assistance from the Police, to a point that the situation ended up being referred to the Home Secretary by our local MP

Public sector? I had to wait three weeks for a copy of a document a few weeks ago as the whole licencing department are "working from home" and the document? was in a box in the actual workplace!

As for the (sic) Pathetic Government, the one that has a record majority in 2019 Official figures show that by April 2021 nearly 10,000 more officers had been recruited so close to halfway the Governments target of 20,000 for the Parliamentary term

However this is close to Politics, which is against the rules, as is being rude by the way.
Ok. I’ll withdraw my comment and apologies offered to those offended. However, the Police, nurses, social workers, doctors etc, etc. are all working under tremendous pressure through lack of investment and diminishing numbers.
I don’t agree with the government stats on 10000 more police recruited. I think you’ll find that many are backfilling those officers who’ve retired! Stats can often say anything the author wants.

The great thing about forums is that you don't have to believe or agree anything, no one cares

The same way that I don't agree that the Public Sector is under that much pressure given my "actual" experience over the last few Months

C'est La Vie
The first 10,000 simply replaces the numbers cut that caused this policing mess in the first place.
That's a good thing yes?

Sorry police should be targeting, burglaries, crimes of violence physical and sexual. I accept the upset of having a vehicle stolen but other crimes of violence need to come first.
It is not "either/or"! The police could set up at ports with three to four officers and help from the port authorities. It is a criminal gang! It is a Crime! The problem is that too many just say "ah well" and let the insurance deal with it! Thirteen years of downgrading the police and other institutions.

However, they deleted the 20,000 in the first place! But can you link to the employment of 10,000 new officers?

They always work "extremely hard", other professions don't?

My limited experience of claims by clients for compo for criminal injury is that the amounts awarded to victims are set very low. Celebrities who had phones tapped by journalists working for NOTW, claiming compo for hurty feelings, got awards (from the Courts or under a settlement) many multiples greater than if they had been injured by physical violence. It's a two-tier system, biased against ordinary citizens.

On the subject of Police recruitment mentioned by you and a couple of other Funsters, I watched on the BBC Breakfast show a piece where that actress (I know, they are all "actors" nowadays) from Line of Duty visited the real equivalent of AC5.

What struck me was that, when the actress was shown witnessing a passing-out parade, every one of the new Plods in the shot was female. Now, that might of course have been the result of BBC editorial policy. Nevertheless:

Aren't there a corresponding number of blokes wanting to sign up? If not, why not? What implications does this trend have for the future of policing?

You are looking at two totally different aspects of compensation for wrongful acts.
In the case of a person assaulted or physically injured by a wrongful act, they can obtain compensation through the CICA. It would also be open to them to sue the responsible person through the Civil Court.
However, a person wronged without injury could take their case also to the Civil Court. These high profile (because of media coverage) cases often result in large scale payouts.

That has nothing to do with it being a two tier system. Everybody is entitled to compensation.

Sorry if I failed to make myself clear. I was drawing attention to the disparity between somewhat low levels of compo for actual bodily injury, and much higher levels of compo awarded for injury to feelings, even anger. Nowadays feelings seem to have extraordinary value attached to them especially if you happen to be a high profile person.

Watching a fly on the wall police programme last night there were two lady PCs trying to break down a upvc front door with the big red key, by the time they broke it down the place was empty, they had probably legged it.
They seriously lacked the physical strength to do the job.

No doubt similar issues could arise with front line soldiers.

And Firefighters too. :(

Did they not get it on the 2nd hit?

But then they would possibly be much quicker if they need to run after them as they don’t carry 5 stone beer belly’s eh? 🤷🏻‍♂️

That assumes they are all staying. I can tell you they aren't having seen what the job entails for the remuneration on offer.

And when the 5ft PC catches the 6ft lout ? Taser I guess.

I too have seen real police programmes where the fit and strong male coppers couldn't get through a uPVC door at all so the fact that the female ones managed it speaks highly of their ability.

... Or the 5ft skinny male copper ... There are large and small people in lots of such jobs, physical size isn't everything, it's how they use the skills and training they've had that means they can do it.

It is very much depending on quality of door and frame and hardware , upvc is shit, composite much stronger 👍

Ah so you think its just motorhome that get nicked do you? Also why should ferries do this, surely a police job?
The ferries are pinch points where scrutiny is easier and the drivers are either with the vehicles or floating on the ferry. A form of APNR camera could to be used to pick up VIN nos. Police can be waiting at the next terminal if need be.

ANPR does number plates and not VIN numbers, presumably they change plates so that may work but also presume they change to the same vehicle?

VIN are so small to read even by us humans so not much chance for a camera with a moving van, as once in the lane to embark or on board plate is not visible.

Women police officers are perfectly capable of carrying out all police duties. On the odd occasion physical force is required they call for help the same as what I had to on occasion. As for 5 officers attending, in the Met for some jobs you used to assign the territorial support group, they work in groups of more than 5 up to 12 officers hence possible overkill excuse my wording, this prevents escalation.

Spot on.

Our force is nothing like the yanks last time I went to New York, lots cops were well over weight leaning against walls & smoking on duty. Made you think the public rely on them for their safety, not a chance except for the fact they carry big guns.
Makes our lot look lean & fit.

If they can build satellites that take pictures of your front garden, I am sure they can find a way of recording a vin number 😝😝😝😝

I take it you have not had an offer yet
