Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

So after a bit of thought I think the best way for me to continue using this is to transfer it to Spain as that's mainly where we will be using it. With this in mind, I am assuming I need to do the following
1. Transfer my existing Starlink from my UK account (i.e. put it into transfer mode)
2. Activate the Starlink but choose Español (ES) and input a campsite somewhere in Spain and input a new email address
3. Not sure on this one as I don't have a Spanish bank account, but I do have Starling bank which I don't now use but could for this, would this work? or can you still use just a credit card?
4. I am not in Spain till 2nd week of December, so I am assuming best to leave when I am actually there, or can this be done before I travel?
5. I will be pausing the service then before we leave Spain 3 weeks later.
6. Will there be a transfer fee?

If this is possible then I will do it as I am not willing to pay the £96 for the few times we will use it abroad, but this gives another option.
Thoughts?

1. I would buy in Spain… makes it all very easy and no transfer which you can’t do for four months if you buy in UK.

2. You don’t want it linked to UK Roam, you want it to be pure Spanish. See above answer!

3. Not sure if there is a curry’s equivalent in España? Just order from Starlink and get it delivered to a campsite… very easy!

4. I don’t see why not. I don’t have a Spanish bank account but I do have various accounts which are easy to pay in Euros from. The easiest is the Starling Euro Account where I will set up a recurrent payment for the Spanish service. ✔️
Spain it is then. We will call in at Mediamarkt shop on the way down in Zaragoza they will be the most likely shop I think.

If you see one on your travels in Spain over the next couple of months please post (y)

Seems like Spain is the place to register. Starling bank is being used ok. Not sure on transfer fee but this will quickly be recovered from cheaper service if needed.

I was going to sell the old dish but might as well keep it on standby now as like you don't really want to pay £96. it can be backup if I don't get to Spain

I'll get a new 12v mini in Spain the extra cost to buy will quickly be recovered by cheaper monthly bills. Once set up I'll probably change the other dish to France.

Apologies if this is old news

I am sure it has its uses, but possibly not very relevant for motorhome use, at least for most people. We tend to have large batteries built in to our motorhomes and these are eminently suitable for powering the Starlink Mini, either directly off 12V for short cable runs, or via voltage converters up to 48V if longer cables are required to deploy the dish further from the van.

If not would Revolut card be accepted similar to toll tag set up?
Yes .If you open a euro account in Revolut you will be able to pay from there

If you look online they are showing the mini as unavailable at the moment but priced at 399€. The standard is 436€. Fnac.es appear to have the mini.https://www.fnac.es/Starlink-Mini-N...6498d560f015156568020c&origin=AFF_AWIN_624709

Cheapest place for standard one is amazon.es @349€

Without trying to tempt fate, has anyone been or heard of anyone being disconnected after the 60 day period?

We have not had 60 days yet since the new contract. I think it started from October 10th

I’m awaiting 11th December or around that time for news

Not to my knowledge but I'm sure it will happen eventually....

As a point of discussion, is it 60 days actual usage OR 60 calendar days? Could Dishy be used intermittently i e. on for one day then off for one day or other permutations? That would cover the 90 Schengen days albeit still having to pay for 3 months, you could get 60 days use out of the 90 if that worked better for users? Of course no one knows yet but perhaps it's an option if the 60 days is enforced?

From Olegs blog - i dont know whether this might work when in foreign climes for longer than two months?

this post was made on 29th October, so pretty recent ..

Hello,

Starlink requires coordinates and time at the start to find its satellites. If the terminal is not moving – constant position refresh is not needed.

The app option “Use Starlink positioning exclusively” instructs the Starlink terminal not to listen to GPS at all. So, when it’s enabled, GPS jamming is not effective. However, this requires a longer time to start and might not work well in motion.

the app he refers to is mentioned in another of his blogs. ive used it to check on a few things whilst using frank starlinkenstein .....

if the GPS is disconnected then i know the starlink doesnt actually work, so the 'command' might be a work around to the GPS positioning whilst recognising the Dishy still functioning?

An interesting starlink mini install.

I follow these two and saw the ‘mini in the dash’ install on their socials… I love the builds they do which are actually all to a very good standard. ✔️

My fear for them is that they are becoming a tad too YouTube content centric with their videos! John is quite funny, but not stunting every video and not five times per video. 😱

I tested my Gen 2 in a similar position in August, though didn't try to mount it there permanently (it would have been too big anyway) but showed it does work through the windscreen

I saw their upload yesterday and was surprised they were talking having it on 24x7 but not using thermal screens in temps between -20 and -50

It's surprising to hear of starlink Gen 2's that fail due to overheating. Although to try to put that into perspective, it's prob an extremely low percentage. Overheating was one of my concerns when I tested it in front of the windscreen. I have disabled the heater on my starlink ( using the option in the settings menu) to try to prevent that.
For those who have mounted theirs on the roof, I suspect they still have the snow melt option heater still 'live'.

Not sure I get the connection, I meant at -20 to -50 you would want thermal screens on the van which would block the Starlink view of the sky so what's the point of having it on 24x7.

I lost a Gen2 to overheating. I think the StarMount was the issue, the power supply transformer was almost pressed against the dish. It eventually fried the dish.

Ouch, did starmount offer an explanation or refund ?
Yes, very difficult company to deal with. Initially, the MD told me it was due to me cutting too much off the dishy and it pressing down too far onto the transformer. A few photographs proved that incorrect, I probably needed more cutting off to be honest. I eventually shipped it back to the US and received what I paid for it. I lost about £300 in shipping and import duties. I was actually relieved to get shot of it. It was leaking water and speed was not great. I was not impressed with it.
Now use a Gen 3 which is 12Volt pre wired to a waterproof JB on the roof. Open the rear heiki, throw it out plug it in and position. Find this gives me the best speed.

Have you tried it up close to the heki without it having to be put into the roof?
We have our Gen 2 mounted internally like that and it can be used in motion. We trialled it first, by just resting the Starlink onto the roof blinds before making a couple of brackets that slot nicely into the frame of the roof light (no drilling etc)

My only question on the deal would be. Can you pause it and re-activate it and retain the £30 a month offer?

I should have clicked on the link to find out. The answer is sadly no :(
