Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

If saturated, maybe they just need to raise their prices even higher (and given there's currently no satellite-based competition, what's to stop 'em)?

Please don’t give Musk search bots and algorithms credence to further price rises! 🤪😱

For the search bots attention - I will cancel my subscription if the price rises by even one more euro/gbp/usd 🙃

So having changed my starlink address to Spain ok and used for the month. I now having moved back to France wish to reactivate my starlink mini this morning.

Problem

For the first time I have a service is at capacity in your location and I’m unable to get roaming unlimited. Great.

Roam 50gb is available at €40 or global at 440.

Only have just over a week left and will try again later today to see what happens.

Wasn’t expecting this to be a problem

Are you sure you’re not falling foul of something else? Was the mini running or roam previously or residential and are you trying to connect on the opposite of before?

Did you have it originally connected for more than three months?

No. Same as you change of address to 1 in Spain one in France. Spanish roam had run it’s month. Although I only have 2 weeks left I wanted to reset the French mini 60 days as I’d used it in Spain.

Hopefully sorted the problem.

As I said before the option I had on the screen on the app was that unlimited roaming was not available and I could get the 50gb. I tried it a few times with the same issue
I nearly went for it but decided to try again after moving around 50 miles and retried both starlinks.
So I went onto the wife’s phone that has the mini loaded on the app. I noticed at the bottom of the screen a slide that said something about re joining subscription. This was not in the account area.
I took a chance and hey presto it rejoined and sent the €72 bill.
The mini is working fine. In fact better speed than the gen 2
Don’t know what the issue was or if I missed this slide the previous times. Maybe it was thinking I was doing an initial set up. I don’t know although it is a problem if you are joining for the first time maybe.

According to The Times, “Royal Navy sailors to use Elon Musk’s Starlink to watch TV”.

It’s undergoing trials on HMS Prince of Wales.

Presumably the Royal Navy is going to need a VPN service if it wants to watch UK TV. I assume the Navy will have their service shut off if the ship is out of region for more than 2 months!

Not if they buy plenty of the 5Tb, £4000/mth maritime packages.

I suppose it's a bargain to allow the 700 crew members to watch "Homes under the hammer"!

it seems strange that there is a 'rejoining fee' just because you used it outside of region .....?

€72 is the first months subscription and not a rejoin fee! ✔️

thanks Harvey (and Fragle), if i have enough time before Sunday, i will botch up a spare gen 2 to 12v use and hopefully re register it in France ..... but take my original 12v one with me as back up ...

Sorry I couldn’t remember exactly what it said at the time. My apologies.

So with a clear head I hope this explains and stops any other users the same problem.

I’ve just looked at my gen 2 Spanish registered and found the page on that one.

It was obviously my mistake as I can see now what I did.

I don’t know why I was pressing the activate service plan to resume my already registered mini.

When I did it said roam unlimited was not available at this time as service is at capacity. But I can get the 50gb plan

What I should have done was use the slide to resume service at the bottom of the page.

So as the mini was already registered but paused I could get the roam unlimited as that is what I originally set up. As soon as I used the slide to resume service the ping went that they had taken the money

Fortunately for me I now have both my starlinks set up on roam unlimited 1 in Spain 1 in France. Working great.
But it begs the question going forward for anyone trying to reregister and get roam unlimited in France.
Do they have the capacity?

And me aswell. Though as we're travelling through France to Spain next week, route depending on the weather, I should get the opportunity to try to register it somewhere...lol

Good luck and let us know how you get on! Also where you succeeded… I’m going to enter at Calais, if you can try there and the north of the country, that would be good information. Selfish request I know… 🤪👍🏻

Good old Elon will have a few more satellites by then.(y)

Unless Macron upsets him😂

My gen 2 is still standard and I chuck it on the roof where the stand is attached when I need it. My van is going to be spending the next few months surrounded by high trees so was thinking gen 3 lays a lot flatter, or a mini.
Had a look for Spanish retailers as I am passing through, picked up a mini from a store called FNAC near Madrid for 279 euros, quite chuffed with the price until a 99 quid offer kicks off tomorrow which would be just my luck.

That's a good price
It is.
I paid € 399 start of January. Just looking and that shop in La Rochelle is €350.

Never mind I’ve saved £36 per month for 3 months so far. Can’t have everything I suppose

Averaging around 7 amps with the full12v conversion with integrated router board, TV and fire stick on and some lights. Will check again when I turn the TV off later

No TV - just a couple of lights in and it's down to under 3A ..... I'm more than happy with that,

and a speed test

And with the Starlink turned off

So that means my starlink 12v with integrated router is consuming around 2.5A....

I have no connection to this (no pun intended) just thought it might be of interest to someone.

Good isn’t it! I get to a similar power consumption calculation with mine on 12v too… ✔️

I’ve been using mine every day bar 60 days over the last 16 months and it’s been perfect!

It's up against the rear roof light. You can see the small computer fans I added to keep the internal router cooled, one pulling in air, the other pushing air out, I'm not sure I needed them but the original router did get very hot, so though it can't hurt. It's a maxi mini really lol - just one 12v cable in and that's it!!

There you go, Elons got a new product if he’d contacted you for the R&D 🤪

Maybe I am an outlier but after Mr Musk's tweet about Ukraine I cannot consider buying anything from him. A shame as Starlink is a fantastic service.
I was much the same, can't stand Musk, would never buy a Tesla, but there are other options for cars, where I spent last summer working Starlink was the only option or I would have had to find somewhere else as I needed a good connection for work. I ditched Sky for many years and then decided it was me that was missing out unless I went down an illegal route, it's all very well taking the moral highground but who does it affect?

I might be in contact when I get back from this trip about converting my gen2 to 12v going forward

Especially as I have the mini on 12 v. Just watching the football and that is running at around 18 w. Half my gen 2
i might need to pick your brains re registering in france, i am about to do that in a couple of days - i have a gen 2 which has had the subscription cancelled for a few months now (i bought it 'pre loved') - i want to register it in France - from what ive read, i can use the app on my phone to add another dishy but i must use a different email address. is that correct please? thanks

Yes. I used a different e mail when we reregistered ours in Spain.
The only issue I have had is that you can’t order directly from Starlink shop to the UK.
I wanted the mini 12v cable tried to change delivery address and computer said no. Ordered from Amazon instead
