Rally Shrewsbury, messing about on the river 2-7 July

Only thing is Martin, can you keep me away from Lenny HB as he will spend any money I may acquire in future on all things electric and suspension

Thankyou very much, have done the booking form, just waiting for next Wednesday to pay

Martin i would like to attend if there is still space, any event in Canoes or other activities count me in.

Do you have a Reserve List in case of cancellations Martin?

Just a heads up, saw the signs on the M6 this morning,
not sure if this will impact anyone heading north up the M6 to the M54 in the planned times, could be busy.
https://highwaysengland.co.uk/our-work/west-midlands/m6-junction-10-improvement/

"We’ll close the M6 in both directions between the junction 10 exit and entry slip roads. We’ll put the closure in place at 8pm on Friday 2 July and will reopen the motorway before 6am on Monday 5 July"

I'm on the list for this, however I'm definitely not able to go, hope to another time.

Nothing really to do with the meet BUT, Mrs Funflair is in tidy up mode and found a load of wool so anybody who knits or crochets is welcome to it or some, its on this thread as we can deliver to the meet.

Don't ask me what it is bit I am sure it will be expensive ;) free to a good home or a couple of quid into Dereks charity box.

I think thats the junction before the M54 heading North so well worth taking note if not arriving Friday.

It is but closures are not until 8pm on a Friday night so should not effect anyone heading to Shrewsbury, they should be sat outside with a glass in hand by that time. 👍🍻
Obviously usual Friday traffic to take into consideration.

A friend who knits quilts would love some of it if Janine doesn't want it all.

Sent my email today Martin and looking forward to meeting some of the faceless names I keep slagging off on here

Yes no problem (y)

I think there will be a car boot sale on Sunday as well if anybody fancies being up early for the bargains, that is a totally separate organisation though and tables are £5 if you have a garage full of junk to sell.

Thanks will bring some quality motorhome merchandise with me then.

It is getting closer and at this point I usually put something on about arriving at the showground so here goes.

If you use the postcode SY12PF that should be right but if you need to fine tune it use "gravel hill lane"

I guess a lot of you will be coming M6-M54-A5 so then choose the A49 as shown above, then either of the routes marked is OK, the B5062 route is slightly easier for larger vehicles but may be a little busier as it goes through part of the town, if you do use this route you will come under the railway bridge and then keep right to loop back up on the A528, you will most likely get flashed by the "low Bridge" camera but keep left and you will miss it before making your left into "Berwick road".

The alternative A528 avoids the town but is slightly narrower and has telegraph poles close to the road edge so can be a bit intimidating for RV's and people with expensive bus mirrors, if you come this way you will see signs for a low bridge but "don't panic" you will turn off onto Berwick Road before the bridge, your right turn is just after a little mini roundabout as you cross the bridge over the railway line, the low bridge in town is 3.3m anyway so some would sneak under but not us for sure;)

Anybody coming from the other side will just cross the river and follow the riverside road but again you will be flashed by the "low bridge" camera but just keep in the left lane and you miss it.

So once you are onto Berwick road after about 1/4 mile this is the left that you need to take into Gravel Hill Lane,

So you are now on "Gravel Hill Lane" and the main gate will be on your left, its the gate with all the brickwork and wrought iron, turn in keeping the Black and White box on your right and head for the top of the field as shown in this picture, you will then be directed to your pitch and will have the opportunity to fill with water before pitching.

IMPORTANT when you leave you need to turn left at the end of Berwick Road unless you are happy to go under the 3.3 metre bridge.

Things might be changing rapidly now but, when I was in Shrewsbury a couple of weeks ago, Wyle Cop, the road that leads through the centre of town is closed for social distancing.

The diversion is round the Walls which is a bit narrow in places but do-able if you find yourself lost and going that way.

Good info Janine, just reinforces that the best idea is to do your research before you get there and don't get lost ;) , I always say it's the last mile where it all goes pear shaped,Google earth is your friend sometimes(y)

Sorry Martin funflair Jo has an upcoming eye op' that means we can't make this meet. I have emailed Jan to let her know.

Best made plans and all that, hope all goes well for Jo with the op, thanks for letting me know.

The Station bridge in Shrewsbury although it's marked up at 3.3 metres is absolutely fine if you just drive through the centre taking up both lanes.
I have driven through in all types of vehicles and never had a problem.
The only vehicles that I have seen collide with the bridge is high sided trucks.

 Ha Ha, good to know but I don't think my co-driver would allow me to proceed being about 3.6 ish metres, I did see a coach reversing out a while ago, it does catch quite a few each year and I certainly don't want to be a "You-tube star"

This brings back memories, when I was an apprentice , the firm built a special body for the carriage of eggs for Baschurch egg producers. My mate Ray ,another slave (sorry apprentice) had the pleasure of delivering it. Well he got as far as Shewsbury! need I say more?? we followed to collect bits

Right Canoe trip time,

Janine
Jev88
Polar bear
Bolti
highwayman

And any others who fancy a Canoe trip, the plan is for it to be on Monday 5th, it's a leisurely 12 miles down stream from Montford Bridge back to the showground, we will be picked up by mini bus in the morning and paddle back to the showground stopping on the way for lunch but it will just be a sandwich on the bank side as we do not pass civilisation, you should expect to see quite a bit of wildlife including Kingfishers, we did last time anyway.

I will explain that we will be in open Canadien Canoes so safe as houses for anybody who has not done this before, single or double Kayaks are available but possibly only suitable if you have some previous experience (I don't know what type they are) you will be provided with all the safety equipment and of course Canoe and Paddles together with the pick up from ours vans the price is £30 per person and two to a Canoe so we will need to pair up.

Please confirm who wants to do this as we need to firm up the booking pretty soon, a mini bus full would be 16 places and then they have another 8 seater so a max of 24 places before we have to think of getting a taxi up to the start.

Yes. Jev partnered up with Karon (Crazy Cat Lady ) please. Glad you say okay for amateurs. Only "canoed" once before in a two seater sit on top thingy.
Have done dragon boat racing before but I don't think that compares 😁
