Show us your 3d printed bits!

I am loving this thread. Thanks guys.

Designed Revision 1 of my USB charger point. One USB socket and one 12v so I can charge a laptop.

It's going here, just using adhesive tape:

Design currently looks like this:

I'm going to print it with the socket holes face down on the print bed. It produces the smoothest surface finish. The cut-out on the top is for the curtain rail. And it's got a funny arrow angle on it to prevent overhangs... because the printer can't print plastic into mid-air. I could get it to print support material and cut it out, but it's a waste of plastic and takes longer.... I'll see what it looks like when it comes out.

That’s going to look pretty smart. Nice one.

I like using a textured bed as your main face to be viewed. It give a Proffesional finish . Should look very smart indeed.

Can you print with embedded hardware? ie pause at a specific point, insert nuts/bolts then continue printing around it to totally encapsulate the nut?

How do any of you get a smoother finish, do you use the acetone method Ive heard about.

That can be done. I've tried it to put captive nuts into a print. But then I discovered these inserts. Leave a big enough hole in the print. Then warm the insert up with a soldering iron and press into place.

It depends on the plastic you use. I've not tried it before. Last time I looked, the acetone method was for ABS, which I hate printing with because it stinks and it a bugger for warpage. I'm not sure if it works for other plastics?

Print finished. Tried a test fit. Rarely perfect first time...

I was probably a bit too greedy when trying to minimise the size. It's really hard to screw in the collars around the USB and 12v sockets. A few mm extra would have been fine. A larger issue might be that I'm not sure if the cut-out is deep enough for the curtain rail... Hoping the 3M foam tape I've got will cover the gap, or I'm printing another one.

My first 3D printer was an Aldi special. It's easy to calibrate and has never missed a beat, even on 13hour prints. Currently I'm working from home with the work 3D printer, an Up Box which is 5 years old now and showing it's age (the auto level doesn't work). But, it's fully heated and prints ABS very well. If your not sure about 3D printing, the Aldi £250 special offer if it comes around again is a cheap way to start and a reasonable quality printer.

Slight change of plan... When I actually dug in behind the cabinets, I couldn't find any good wiring to tap into. But there was something handy on the other side. I now have convenient USBs and 12v in the hab area.

You can. I do it all the time. You can set in the slicer to pause the print.

I usually print in 0.2mm layer height. Check your flow rate is not over extruding. Don’t print too hot. Experiment with your cooling. It’s difficult to give you precise advice as every printer is different, and every material is different. Even colour makes a difference.

Very neat job. 👍

For those looking at this thread in awe, like me, my share for you is using Thingverse (are there other good ones) to find a design file for the item that I want and then an online printing company for the production. Not as fulfilling but I was not sure that the time I needed to commit to learn how to actually produce useable files could be justified for the occasional item, let alone the actual printer. Maybe there should be a repository on MHF for the design files and pictures of the items and their relevance to specific kit that we have. It would need to be more sophisticated than a simple post. Nothing to do with motorhomes, but a 3D printer is awfully useful for making fine details like these on my 3.5" gauge Britannia. I just wouldn't bother if I didn't have my Prusa! Incidentally, the front skirt is made from some Titanium sheet that I had lying around!

You can add printing plans in the Resource section. That makes it easy for others to find and download them. (y)

The problem is you need to know the title of the part that the designer has given it. So perhaps some way of sub grouping to make browsing a list intuitive might assist. Maybe 3d printing enthusiasts can add constructive thought?

How's that for a quick response?! Thank you Jim .

Looking forward to seeing useful files being added. Currently my two sons print items for me from my Fusion 360 designs, but they are trying to persuade me to get a 3D Printer

Anyone printing the little hinge parts of the telescopic guide for the Ducato Remis side window blinds?
That would be a good thing to do as you have to buy the whole flipping thing rather than just the hinge bit.

sallylillian can you recommend an online printing company? Would love a printer myself but can’t justify the cost for the occasional part I’d want to print at the moment!

Why not ask one of the guy on this thread with 3D printers to print off what you want, that's what I did and more than happy with the results.

I have only had 3 things printed and I cannot find who I used back in 2018-2019, if you google you will find a load online, and of course as has been suggested maybe some on this thread will be able to oblige. If I find the company I will post them on here.

Nothing at the moment thank you, could have done with a new fridge knob 6 months ago but managed to find one on eBay. Just thinking of projects I have planned (electronics) and the options of a custom case/box. Will certainly ask here once I do have something - I know there are companies in America who do it but didn't know there were companies here.

Just shout when you need something, and i will see what i can do for you. If you already have your design work done it makes it easy to print, but i can do the CAD work as well.

Hi Jim
I am trying to share some CAD drawings for funsters but it doesn't accept STL files, which is a common file format for 3D Printer Slicer programs. Are you able to add STL files in your list.

By the way. I can print in PLA. PETG. ASA. ABS and TPU.
