Show us yer garages!!

Hmm....might look at the Suzuki Address....was looking at Honda 125SH’s....just out of interest why didn’t you take the moped from Sorrento to Naples ? And what was wrong with Sorrento...we we’ve thinking of staying there ?
Have you tried driving or riding anywhere in the Naples Bay area???????? Even other Italians think they are complete nutters.

Sorrento was OK, but it was the least impressive bit of the Amalfi coast. But the trip in and out was horrendous. The road was Ok until about 5 miles from Sorrento. Then it got narrower and busier. Cars are thrown at the kerb, not parked, idiot tour bus drivers seemed to relish in leaving a 5mm clearance between them and me and kamikaze scooter riders were coming at me from all angles. Then the campsite was down a very steep and winding track where you had to do a three point turn on the hairpin bends. By the time we got to the bottom we were so frazzled we needed a week to pluck up the courage to try to get the motorhome out again. And when we did I nearly burnt the clutch out getting up the hill again.

By all means go there. But I suggest you stay at campsites in the Pompei area and catch the train to Sorrento. It has been spoilt by tourism, but it still has some pretty places. As long as you are willing to put up with the tourist tat. From there you can get a tour bus to do the Amalfi coast, which is a must, or in season you can do it by ferry. And take the Ferry to Capri as well and spend a full day there.

As for not taking the scooter into Naples, I thought I covered that in my last post. I didn't want it to be stolen or damaged. Remember it was on UK plates, so still shiny and looked after. A prime target. On the other hand the station was a pleasant 10 minute walk, the train trip was reasonably scenic and cheap and it dropped us right into the middle of Naples. And I could have a few drinks with our pizza. It was really no contest.

Lol....sounds like my trip to Rome...couldn’t get a train ticket as office was closed and ticket machines out of order....jumped on train and police got on and demanded on the spot fine of €1,000 for not having a train ticket....I seem to attract these on the spot fines....needless to say had huge arguament....kick behind the knees, karate chop to the neck.....and refused to pay it.

Ah right....think mine must be non Maxi then as it’s 3900kg and 2200kg rear, 1850kg front....gonna have to get to a weigh station when I’ve got it all sorted...think I might have to leave the ebikes at home as they are 25kg each and scooter (which I haven’t got yet) 100 to 125kg ?...pity as I’ve already got one ebike (need another) but haven’t got the moped...did think about just taking two ebikes as peterc10 was saying but just think they are more easily stolen when I park them in a Naples back street and harder (near impossible for overseas) to get adequate insurance on.
Thats not a maxi I think it's the older light chassis, the newer lights are 1850 on the front and 2000 on the rear & the maxi 2100 on the front (2300 with uprated springs) and 2500 on the rear.

With 2200 on the rear you will probably be OK on the rear but it will depend on the length of your overhang.

Don't worry about Naples .......... EVERYTHING will get nicked if they want it or dented if they don't. When you buy a new car there I think the salesman ceremoniously kicks a couple of dents in the bodywork at handover so that it will fit in.

We stayed in a little hotel in the centre of the old town, the state of cars has to be seen to be believed. Don't think we saw one car without the sides all dented in and door mirrors hanging off even brand new ones. Fun watching them park as long as the space is half the length of their car they will get in it.
I think I would rather drive in India than Naples.

Our solution works well

Getting back to the original thread ;) Stewart J, can I ask please where you got your translucent storage boxes from please?
Whilst I have used the supermarket/warehouse type crates before, you can't see what's in them, whereas you have a better idea with the translucent stackable boxes.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

They're all over the place now. Best buy I found was Wilco at £10 for four drawers and tough enough.

I was referring to the boxes in the photo I included in my quote above, not drawers, but thanks anyway. :)

Ah yes...these threads do go astray sometimes.....I’ve got about 40 of these boxes (I rent a storage container)...as moved out of a large house into a small one as part of my downsizing, less work, more motor-homing cunning plan. The are from B&Q or Homebase....the useful box company....very sturdy and stack really well...all sorts of sizes...I just shoved one in my double bottom (Ohh err miss) and now can’t get it out ?

Ooh err missus again....Frankie Howard would be laughing in his grave...

Oooh arrr! Wait and I will show you! 920kgs pay load too! (y)
Got mine mot‘d last week and he said It was just over 3 ton on brake rollers, that would give me just over a ton!! Happy days, trouble is the missus wants to Chuck all and sundry in it, maybe I shouldn’t have told her about the payload?

wonder if I can uprate from 4250 to say 4500??

When she starts looking at the Cast Iron BBqs....thats the time to panic! Trust me....My beloved has already decided on shifting our Tin one for a better brand!!

Really Usefull storage boxes as said by another poster tops are recessed allowing them to be stacked and they haven’t moved in thousands of miles both here and in France/Spain. Halfords have or had them in their sale when I visited last week that’s where we purchased ours.

Two Bromptons (one electric), two deck chairs, two folding chairs, folding table with adjustable legs, one 10 litre water container, sunscreen support and wind-up pole, three large stackable boxes (two for food and one for groundsheets), generator and lots of small stuff - anti-slip mats, clothes drying rack and pegs, mop, brush, parasol, spade, 3 electric cables.

I can’t take a picture of my garage as the motorhome is at Johns Cross for its MOT and service. However, to divert slightly, I have taken pictures of everything that would normally be in the motorhome apart from generator and bikes. Johns Cross sensibly advise customers to remove all items from the motorhome so that their staff don’t have do this when carrying out damp tests.

I got some of them from wickes builders merchants but BQ and homebase xlso sell them

Thanks Guys and Gals, those are the ones which look suitable for us, ie, stackable, and contents visible. (y)
We shall hopefully sort some out on our return to the UK. :)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)

Well I started fettling the garage at the weekend and started by putting some conduit type rail on the wall for my bungees to go into. It’s tidied it up a bit but it’s still a bit bare!!

WESTY66 Do you carry cycles with you? if so are they carried on a rack on the rear or normally in the garage, if the latter what method do you use for securing them. I fitted a Thule G2 cycle rack in the garage thinking it would make it easier to get the bikes in and out, but believe it or not it seems such a kafuffle I'm seriously thing of taking it out, but are not to keen on having a rack on the back, being e-bikes they a bit heavy (20kgs each excluding batteries) to lift up onto the rack, also not sure if the backs of vans have a max design weight.

Thanks

Not carried any cycles as yet, but I did take the rack off the back (parking restriction) knowing I wouldn’t carry them on the back, I’d rather have them inside (less worry about them going walkies).
I believe you can get a decent strong towbar cycle rack, if you have a towbar fitted that is.?

Thanks WESTY. hadn't considered the tow bar option.
