Just a little question :) Are these vans with their garages 3.5 or uprated ?
We are downsizing to 3.5 and wondering if we can get that much in the garage of our new van !

Hi we had a 690 which was fine in the garage, but the 790 which it has replaced is heavier we also want to carry a spare wheel. can't decide whether to tart up the van we have or change it, John fancies a lighter van and an easylifter. So would need to be a shorter van.
You kept that quiet, is it cos every bike I buy you've got to get the same ?

I bet you don’t have a big ugly exhaust like this though ?
But if you fancy one I’ll sell you this one. ?

Am guessing the no reply is that either they are over 3.5 registered or overweight and no one wants to admit it lol

I'm guessing most are on the heavy chassis. Members on the Carthago UK forum (with large garage and 3500kg MAM) have complained they can only put minimal stuff in the garage without overloading the rear axle. Furthermore, the water tanks are behind the rear axle so have to travel with minimal water onboard.

I did not know that there are MHs under 3.5t that have garages. If you have found some I suggest you check them incl. accessories and the real payload, using a weighbridge, then work out how you would travel without anything in a garage and see how much payload is left.

This excecise might answer your own question.

Ours, Hymer Exsis T588, photo above. Two bikes, awning, paddling gear, two sea kayaks on roof, driver and passenger = 3438 on weighbridge. Have upped to 3850 as paper exercise and to provide a adequate wine allowance.

Ours is very similar to yours, Hymer B588DL. I'm guessing the van itself will be slightly heavier because of the double floor. Don't know how much difference being an A Class makes .
We weighed in at 3540 , fully loaded (outdoor furniture, safari chef and Camping Gaz canister, electric bikes, 30kg dog, large sack of dog food, 2 people, half-full water, full fuel tank.) We had about 50kg to spare on the rear axle. Like you, we upped to 3850.
It could be done at 3500, if push came to shove, and my husband lost his C1 at 70. (Alternatively, I'll just have to drive ?:giggle::giggle:)

Our Hymer B678 is on the Fiat Alko Maxi chassis rated at 4500kg. We can in theory carry 450kg in the garage. In the garage we carry a Suzuki Address 110cc scooter, which weighs in at about 105kg and about another 110kg in things like spare wheel, BBQ, table and chairs etc. When we are fully loaded for a tour, including cloths and full water tank (both also behind the rear axle), we are OK for overall weight but are very close to the 2500kg limit on the rear axle.

I suspect you would struggle to be able to put a Scooter in the garage in a 3500kg registered motorhome and still not be overloaded on either the rear axle or overall or both. That is unless you are really running light with all your other stuff or are going solo.

This is the only picture i've got and the mountain bikes aren't in yet.
Love the exhaust Trev, doubt we will be 'copying' that though :giggle: or the new van you are thinking about.
not unless we start doing the lottery and come up lucky.
all te best to you and Lil.

Mine is 3.5 tonnes, and I've checked it fully loaded on a weighbridge.

My lists work well for us. I know it's considered by some to be over the top but a laminated copy in the door pocket works so well.

These pictures have all reinforced my view, that the "Garage" is THE most stupid inefficient storage design there ever was. The first stuff in it is tidy, then you've no choice but to just junk everything else on top. Then all that storage too far from the back axle.
