Show us yer garages!!

Spitfire's question(not OP, sorry) was in post 38 long after your early post. Maybe he did not see your post and pics.
I didn’t see the post you are referring to but have read through them all now . Hasn’t really answered my question but he ho I did butt in on another thread !

These pictures have all reinforced my view, that the "Garage" is THE most stupid inefficient storage design there ever was. The first stuff in it is tidy, then you've no choice but to just junk everything else on top. Then all that storage too far from the back axle.
Depends how OCD the owner is, mine is within limits, and as Nessa would say "tidy".

Just tidied mine.

Some impressive amounts of kit in these garages, tightly packed so nothing much moves I guess. But if I want to put in less what do you suggest using to fix tie downs to floor, outer wall and inner walls. I don't want to encourage water ingress so wish to avoid too many screws/bolts. Any suggestions welcome.

Most of my bits are held by the existing rails, I've added a few eye hooks there screwed to the inner wall so don't cause any problems.

Oh Perlease!!!! If the boss sees any of these pictures I'm in deep s##t. I've not let her see in the garage but if she does I'm finished!

I have to strategically place stuff in the entrance and then push like f##k to get the doors to close!

But I know exactly where everything is....honestly

The "crate" shelf on the left I built out of 9mm ply it is attached to the rear rail using t bolts so new holes.

No there's :swear2: all in your garage.

Except everything you need.

No trolly jacks.
No Snap on tool chests plus a selection of breaker bars.
No 5 different sizes of hoses - just in case.
No various length hook up leads - just in case.
No 10 gallon of spare diesel - just in case.
No 2KW generator and 2 gallon of petrol - just in case.
No selection of watering cans - just in case.

I also seem to be able to survive without a Portawash Plus ----- whatever that is?
You should be able to notice a theme developing here:drinks::whistle2:

Discovered these beauties lately.

Can be got cheap off eBay etc. Stackable, ventilated and light.

About to order some.

I think drawers are much more convenient, you can get to any stuff so much easier.
These are strong enough for most stuff.

Thanks Paddywack =- have considered ply shelves possibly stuck to wall/floor with Sikaflex. Wondered if that adhesive was strong enough to secure a batten across back wall to attach fixings to secure bikes.

Our Hymer B678 is on the Fiat Alko Maxi chassis rated at 4500kg. We can in theory carry 450kg in the garage. In the garage we carry a Suzuki Address 110cc scooter, which weighs in at about 105kg and about another 110kg in things like spare wheel, BBQ, table and chairs etc. When we are fully loaded for a tour, including cloths and full water tank (both also behind the rear axle), we are OK for overall weight but are very close to the 2500kg limit on the rear axle.

I suspect you would struggle to be able to put a Scooter in the garage in a 3500kg registered motorhome and still not be overloaded on either the rear axle or overall or both. That is unless you are really running light with all your other stuff or are going solo.
Hi peterc10.....you mention the Fiat Alko Maxi chassis rated at 4500kg. I have just bought a B674...it has a double floor and the weigh plate is 3900kg. I assume mine isn’t the maxi chassis then although I seem to remember the dealer saying it was....how can I tell ? We’re all double floor alkos the maxi chassis ? Also someone mentioned in another thread that garages have a sticker saying 150kg max...surely that can’t be right ?

Just trying work out if I can get a moped, ebikes and other gear in or not

What is the rear axle weight on your plate?
To carry a scooter you will probably need at least 2240kg, very much doubt it it would work at 2000kg which is what the light chassis is.
The 2000 rear axle can be up graded to 2240kg by fitting air suspension and you will probably need higher rated tyres so looking at £2000 - £3000 to upgrade.

Double floors can be fitted on the Alko standard chassis or maxi chassis. As for how you can tell which chassis you have I suspect you will need to find the Alko (not Hymer) plate, which will usually be in the front of the engine bay somewhere. It should give an identification number for the chassis. I have tried to attach the Alko brochure showing the various chassis to this post, but I am not sure I have succeeded. Edit: it looks like it has worked!

The weight allowance of the Hymer's garage will depend upon the extension they have added to the Alko chassis to support it. I am afraid I do not know what yours will be. However I agree with Lenny HB that the limiting factor will not be that but will be the maximum load allowed on your rear axle. l suggest you load up the motorhome with all of your stuff needed for touring excluding the scooter and then get your axles weighed. Only then will you know whether or not you have enough spare payload.

By the way, the increased weight on the axle will be more than 125kg because of the lever effect. I would estimate that it will be more like 150kg. To do the calculation accurately you need to measure the wheelbase and the distance between the centre line of the rear wheels and the position of the scooter.

My gut reaction is that it is going to be very tight with a scooter, and I doubt you will be able to put in heavy stuff like ebikes as well. Why would you want both?

My previous Adria C class on a Fiat low line chassis had a 150kg weight limit on the garage and a notice to that effect was clearly stuck on the inside of the door. That had a MGW of 3500kg. I would have had no chance of putting a scooter in that one.

Ah right OK....will have to go and do a bit of looking....to be clear though...whether it’s an Alko Maxi or just Alko standard makes no difference....it’s all about rear axle weight.....what are the benefits of having a “Maxi” chassis over a standard chassis then ?

More load capacity often 4500kg in standard trim, with higher axle capacity rear normally 2500kg front either 2100 or 2300kg. 16" wheels standard so more ground clearance.
Boneshaker ride so you don't need to carry a massage girl.

The chassis DOES make a difference. Every chassis will have a designed maximum limit of weight. The Maxi's is higher than the standard one. I have a MGW on 4500kg on my maxi, the standard chassis will not get that much.

The same with the maximum weight than can be put on each axle. You can put more weight on the Maxi's rear and front axles than you can the standard one. I can put 2500kg on the rear axle of my maxi. You will have to ask SvTech what is the maximum you can put on yours and how you can do it. Doubt it will be as high as that.

Ah right....think mine must be non Maxi then as it’s 3900kg and 2200kg rear, 1850kg front....gonna have to get to a weigh station when I’ve got it all sorted...think I might have to leave the ebikes at home as they are 25kg each and scooter (which I haven’t got yet) 100 to 125kg ?...pity as I’ve already got one ebike (need another) but haven’t got the moped...did think about just taking two ebikes as peterc10 was saying but just think they are more easily stolen when I park them in a Naples back street and harder (near impossible for overseas) to get adequate insurance on.

Hmm....did talk to a scooter rack place LNB before I bought the B674 to try and establish whether I could put a scooter rack on another van I was looking at....gave rear axle weight, distance between axles etc etc....they didn’t seem to want to commit to an answer...however they did mention air suspension upgrade might give an extra 250kg allowance on rear axle but I think it was something like £1850 so stuff that, just gonna go with my 2200kg rear axle and decide where to buy 1 more ebike and take two ebikes or 1 moped and leave the one ebikes at home..strangely the ebikes are often more expensive than a scooter, for a decent one anyway ..life’s not easy is it....☹️

A phone call to SvTech (they have an ad in this month's magazine) will tell you for free what is the most you can get out of your motorhome's chassis. tThey have details of them all and can look them all up using the VIN number.

Even on a maxi chassis we can't take 2 Ebikes and our scooter. And we would not want to. Our 108cc Suzuki Address is 100kg and will take 2 up OK as long as you do not want to go long journeys or on motorways. We got it as an ex demo with 110 miles on the clock and it cost less than our two ebikes. But the wife can no longer cycle so the scooter it is.

Don't worry about Naples .......... EVERYTHING will get nicked if they want it or dented if they don't. When you buy a new car there I think the salesman ceremoniously kicks a couple of dents in the bodywork at handover so that it will fit in. We stayed at Sorrento (not recommended!) and caught the train in.

Hmm....might look at the Suzuki Address....was looking at Honda 125SH’s....just out of interest why didn’t you take the moped from Sorrento to Naples ? And what was wrong with Sorrento...we we’ve thinking of staying there ?

I cannot imagine having a MH without a garage.

Our garage is great but I just like a second access door - port side or rear- as my back makes crawling to far side difficult, especially to then lift out anything heavy.

I will not go for a smaller garage, even if it means having to go for a longer MH and more money.
