Should I Say Anything?

We occasionally leave Sky in the van for short periods, putting him in his bed under the table. When we return, we invariably hear him jumping off the fixed bed at the van's rear, on his way back to his own bed !
In our defence, the only time we left him all of last year, was when we were at Chester and had booked the canal lunch cruise which wasn't dog friendly.

Only ever left our two unattended in our RV once, that was an expensive once.
I think Jack the Russell was OK, he just runs in circles with excitement, but Harry, the retriever/alsation cross, had gone berserk.
The aluminium framed fly screen door was wrecked, not just the mesh but the aluminium frame was twisted.
Part of the main doors internal frame trim was ripped off and destroyed and teeth marks in the wallboard.
The bedroom window aluminium framed fly screen (fixed) was ripped off the window . The frame was torn off its fixing screws.

After that, we went out... They went out.

OK. So just where do they expect their dog to do its do-dahs?

Mate of mine left his dog, in his Pajero for about 15 minutes.

Dog destroyed the Steering wheel, gear sick knob, part of the dash and was in the process of ripping a seat apart when he came back to the vehicle.

One of the houses we had, the bloody dog next door barked & barked & barked , the householder wondered why when ever he came home the Dog and every where else was soaking wet.

Got so, the dog would bark, I would turn the hose on (because of the dangers of bush fires in our area the last owner of the property ran the hose off a 2" main!) the sound of water gushing would send the Mongrel for cover!

The owner said "you know, you are the only people that hasn't moaned about my dog barking"
I told him straight, "Your dog barks, I do my best to drown the bugger!"

Now nearly 7pm and still no sign of the poor dog's "owners"...

I am off out for a slap up (if lonely) meal at Mrs Miggins' Pie Shop (aka the Bollywood Indian Restaurant).

Still haven't decided whether to say anything though... I will probably still be in bed when/if they move off tomorrow.

I'd stick a note on the drivers door.

Is that getting on for 5 hours now it’s been left? Shocking.

It’s probably to stop the dog chewing the steering wheel in frustration...
When our spaniel was young I left her for 5 minutes whilst I stood talking to a mate 10 yards away. Got back to find she had eaten the tax disc (7 quid) and chewed the indicator stalk (20 quid from breakers yard), lesson learnt!

Spray a suitable narcotic gas through the vents into the van with the offending dog. A range of such gasses appear to be available on the continent. The dog will sleep and wake with a dry mouth. The owners will be none the wiser.
And short of a couple of matching Rolexs, two iPads and £4,000 cash! :D

Edit: had missed that the joke had been made earlier. Sorry.

I’d say nothing
But I’d leave an anonymous note under their windscreen wiper blade with a pic of their doggy howling

My guess is that they’d soon disappear

Not sure I agree with not leaving dogs unaccompanied in vans, we do occasionally for a couple of hours. You need to be responsible and should know how they will react if you know your dog.
I have sneaked back and they have been as quiet as church mice.

I would also challenge the assumption that a dog is always "stressed" and being "mistreated" if it barks whilst left on it's own...

One of my dogs gets the hump and barks just coz he wanted to come too and has been left out the fun. He certainly isn't stressed or being mistreated, he's just grumpy...
Nice for your neighbours then. Glad i don't live next door.BUSBY.

Yes I forgot about the rules, we have fallen foul of them on a few occasions I must admit.
A caravan Club warden once rang the police as we drove onto the pitch instead of reversing on, he said we were parked the wrong way around.

I happily leave our three for up to 4 hours. The blinds are drawn, radio on, and they're totally untroubled. It's a different matter if they can see people close to the van. I've never had an issue with damage to the motorhome but they do occasionally have fun with a box of tissues. It looks like a snowstorm occurred when they have done that.

I’d write a foul English note under the wiper JJ, after all your on Portuguese plates so they won’t think it’s you...:D2

I will have to remember that one.

Janie left a note on a Belgium van once, eventually came back after 6 hours  asking who put the note on, Janie said I did, he said just bang on the door and say ' shut up Mickey ' we never knew his name  and if he had asked we would have looked after him.
Just tell them @JJ ;) you would soon tell us .
He wasn't sing football songs was he. :pop:

Thanks for those kind & supportive words...

Mind you, I dont suppose my neighbours are that bothered seeing as they are over 200 yards away :p:p:p

Well I leave my dog on her own, she may bark for about 10 mins and is then quiet till I come back unless someone comes near the van.
I have no problem leaving her for 4 hours. The dog I had previous was left for 8 hours as I was at work and was ok, and the one before that left for 6 to 7 hours. I have found that they learn their routine from puppy age and accept it.

Cruel Mum to my beloved pets.

Well if no one is next door it doesn't matter,,would be different on a camp site though,,BUSBY.

Please, please, please can I make it very, very clear that I am not (NOT) on a campsite!

No "rules" here because "camping" is not allowed... only "parking".

I have a reputation to maintain you know.

Thank you for your ruling in this matter M'lud... I will endeavour to make sure the masses are aware of this new directive :LOL::LOL:

Would it worth noting before I'm sent down that I have only experienced this barking behaviour from my dog in car parks? ie. When I've left them to pop into a shop etc. I've never left them when on a site
