Scotland trip

Yip, ours loved it that much he found two dead seal pups at nearly either end of it to roll in!:Eeek:

Fortunately, washing facilities were just a ball throw away!:giggler:

Did you go for the walk through the woods? Lots of carved animals, etc along the trail.
No we haven’t yet, leaving tomorrow so probably won’t now

Yes it did appear to empty rather quickly Steve. I said to Caz watch all the women come flocking around, instead they all flocked off.
🤣🤣👍 Popping up there Friday week Paul for a couple of weeks, so this has been a good thread to get the juices going. Cheers for that. 😎👍

Went there last September Paul for a few shots of the stacks. When we got there it was thick fog😲 oh well, it was only a 200 mile round trip in the car for nothing. 🙈🤦‍♂️
Been there 5 times and only managed to see them once ........ and that was after trudging across a field with long grass in horizontal rain!

This CMC site Dunnet Bay is direct access right on the beach, however the car park right outside is one of those invitation to pay Scottish highland council ones.
You can overnight for a tenner although there is a sign saying No overnighting which is so contradictory to the information beside the parking meter.

The No Overnight sign must have been erected by the CMC they must be sick, an overnight car park right outside which you have to come through to get in their site.

The dead same overnight car park was at Golspie, it wouldn’t take our card, fortunately a highland council employee had pulled up in a van he said just don’t bother no one checks anyway. Beautiful spot it was look at the view right on the beach.

Yes a lot of those " no overnight" signs are the work of campsites.

Thats why we ignore them 😁

One of my favourite spots. Been going there over 30 years. A few family members ashes are scattered on that beach. One of the benches overlooking it was placed by my brother in memory of his late wife. She loved that spot.

If youve not been round to the beach at balnakiel yet it gets lovely sunsets and theres an old chapel ruin and a cemetery.

Smoo cave is also a must for visiting

Theres a shortage in many areas.

It isnt childish im just saying it you haven't experienced shortages then youre lucky. I couldn't get diesel anywhere around here last week i had to wait till i was 20 miles away. Theres still a problem here now and i will need it tomorrow for work. Im not on the north coast but i am closer to Scotland's only refinery so if theres a problem here there may well be one coming to further north soon. 🤷‍♂️

Believe the "No overnight parking" sign was put up by the water sport place \ school that is \ was above the C&MC site reception as it was giving them issues when they were parking \ unloading canoes, etc. From memory, there's another parking area with toilets just along the road on the other side that is "overnight friendly".

The Club wardens at Dunnet Bay used to clean the public toilets at the car park when they were doing the site ones but that stopped about 5/6 years ago from memory.

Every time we've been there there's been a frequent flow of "non-residents" turning up on the site to dump waste \ take on fresh and even hover waiting on members entering \ exiting the toilets so they can get in for a shower \ etc. This is why they used to shut the gates at night. There was talk of a controlled barrier a few years ago when the Regional Manager was on a site visit but don't know if that has happened.

Yes you get chancers everywhere unfortunately. Personally id never dream of using a campsites showers etc.
James that owns silver sands in durness does allow non campsite users to empty cassette's etc .i think in peak season he charges a small fee but from october to march you can park on the campsite free . Or at least you used to but ive not been up there since 2017

Had a smashing drive to Ullapool, stunning views

We saw a Stag what a wonderful sight, couldn’t stop to take a photo, it would have made MHF photo of the year, I would have been nominated for a free MHF pen, mug, sticker and free life membership, alas not to be.

Did get a shot of another handsome fellow though on the way.

Now at Ullapool Royal Hotel tenner to park up overnight, we have booked dinner for 7pm in there. Thought we’d have a nice meal.

Filling station next door to the hotel, filled up, £108 good grief I’m currently have a long lie down.179.9 a litre.

Parked up with 2 German vans last night nice couple in one of them, a Merc 4x4 unimog doing a tour of the UK. They had to drop a ladder to get out/in the door wow it was high, plus his wife was very bad on her legs.
I was admiring his van and he was admiring ours especially when he saw the Lungberg reisemobile on the back and the LHD sign.

“Meine deutsch is nicht so gud” I said and he laughed, it’s surprising what you can do with facial expressions and hand signals. Mind you I’ve used a couple of hand signals whilst driving this trip 🤣
