Robbed

I think not, because theft is uncomfortable when you discover it later, but having a knife put to your throat to steal something must be much more alarming.

That is the difference between theft and robbery.
When You wake up and your door is open and your valuables are gone you don’t really care what it’s called

All this talk of been robbed got me wondering is it just on Aires or are sites abroad just not safe , so how many people have been robbed on sites compared to Aires, going by the post it seems that it is more prevalent on Aires.
Hardly ever and very little to worry about.
Most of it is in people's imagination.
We average over a 120 night's every year. Mostly on Aires or wild camping ana and over eleven years and 1500 night's we have had not had even one incident.
What do you really have worth robbing?

This happened on a motorway rest area (aire) NOT on an Aire de Camping Car; two entirely different things.

A bit like concluding that if someone was broken into at a Motorway Service Station we should assume that car parks are unsafe.

Does really matter what you call it as the effect is the same
Yes, and I would argue, with experience that the difference between being the subject of theft, and the subject of robbery is very wide.

One of these can cause involuntary muscle relaxation.
Theft usually doesn't.

Now that’s moving into a medical reason for why movement happens.👍

When taking a statement, if the victim said they were robbed…..it goes in the statement. 🤷‍♂️

PIR driveway alarm. 6 of them sucker cupped outside. Full 360 degree protection for less than 30 quid

Would that have helped the OP on the motorway aire?

I only ever use motorway aires, dual carriageway aires, aire de repos , lorry parking areas, etc. anywhere.
Now I've had time to think there's a simpler solution to make them tighter, put the chair armrest down and put the strap over it, that mean that the seat belt clip holder can't be pulled sideways if the door is pulled, the only way anyone would be able to get past this would be if they were already inside to lower the armrest (using it's up/down roller) so wouldn't happen.
If you tilt the drivers seat forward on to the steering wheel then put the door to door straps across the top when a door is opened it pulls drivers seat on to & setting off the horn on the ducatos & probably on other models as well.

I was thinking along those lines previously but assume they want to leave the seat facing to the rear, it might be possible to do it by reclining it instead.

Not sure how you imagine getting robbed. We never imagined it in Marseille and the police told us it was a regular occurrence in that area. We’ve been motorhoming for 45 years and been robbed twice. The second time was at Ilkeley Moor after we’d parked up and had left the motorhome. In the big scheme of things twice in 45 years is not too bad, but considering they were both within the last five years it does show that this type of crime is on the increase. Both times the motorhomes were locked and alarmed and they still got in without breaking entry and activating the alarm.

My van is so small that IF they gained entry they would have to get in bed with me to gain access to the rear of the van but being as we have nowt they would get nowt other than a fat lip ,BUSBY.

Well maybe if somebody put a knife to your throat to steal something you might understand the difference.
Clearly it’s never happened to you then

Seems that criminality is fast on the rise, this is an interesting piece,

Yes it would have given him advanced warning that someone was sneaking about outside

The alarm would he heard outside the van

99.9% of the time these scroats leg it when the detect movement

Ahh, it was your reference to the driveway alarm that wrong footed me. 👍

It the people imaging being robbed I was referring to.
Twice in 45 years is not something that would worry me either.
I know about the screwdriver trick but how didn't they trip the alarm ?
I don't have an overnight alarm but I would want it to go of if I did

We now have a Strikeback alarm which should hopefully do the job if anyone else has a go
