Robbed

Sorry this has happend. Any idea how they got in?

My hab doors are all slam locks, so lock as soon as shut. I lock my cab doors with my key whenever I'm in the back. I also have a metal chain which I put around the cab doors, and is locked together with a padlock in the middle.

Couldn't get in without me knowing and you wouldn't want to find yourself in my van without my invite in the middle of the night.

On a totay unrelated topic, my kitchen draw is under my bed... 😉

How Clever 👍
That is the dog chains idea secured in the seat belt holder, and not Camper Jacks kitchen Drawer under his bed 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sorry but post quote didnt work.

We have just spent a month in Europe, never locked the door any night, wasn't robbed, not recommended this but just to show there is another side.

Did you forget every night or just didnt bother to lock up chaser ,as I am overly careful about locking up?

How do you do that carolyn with Santander and what is the process if they were stolen to be able to use the digital cards. I don’t use my phone to pay for anything but do have an iPhone
You have to add your cards to your Apple wallet before you lose them in the first place. All my cards are there anyway. Then you go into your banking app to report your card lost or stollen and order a new one. Once your new card has been ordered and processed with the Starling and Santander I was able to activate the new cards in the app for Starling and online for Santander and add the new ones to the Apple wallet. The Santander one couldn’t be activated in the app, I had to login “old school” with my ID and password.

I’m not sure if it works for Revolut as that was the only one I hadn’t added to my Apple wallet for some reason which was annoying as I had a lot of euros on it but I can spend them on my next holiday. Revolut is obviously in my Apple wallet now. I expect it does work if Starling does.

My physical Monzo was back at the van as backup but everywhere took Applepay so it wasn’t a problem at all. It was just carelessness on my part so hurt pride really.

Not sure how i managed that bizarre reply but my sentiment was thank you!

We were robbed on a motorway aire in Marseille. Doors locked and alarm set. Wife is a very light sleeper and they still got in and took everything. These people are experts.
They are professionals for sure …but an alarm should go off if the door is opened, when it’s armed?

Sorry to hear you were robbed.
Me too.

I just think it’s very easy for us to make judgment. But a lot of us are more streetwise and savvy. I’m not paranoid, just careful.

I’ve written a lot about our experiences and travels around Europe. I’m very wary and distrustful of anyone.

But a few minutes of forward thinking can save a lot of hassle.

Just slipping your wallet or cards inside a hidden slot, a dummy wallet with expired or mere loyalty cards and a few euros can be a good decoy.

Might be tempting fate here, but no never lock when we are in, we have very little to nick in the van, passports and stuff are in a cupboard by the bed , and I work on the assumption that if they want to get in they will do, and cause more damage to the van than anything they could pinch.

I always lock at night time, intact we turn on the alarm without the internal sensors. Very paranoid about night time distubances, especially when off grid.

However, I'm always amazed that someone could enter, rifle around and leave without waking the occupants. Even a 8 metre motorhome is not large, you are all essentially in the same room. Maybe I'm just a very light sleeper but the smallest creak, movement would wake me. As for finding someone's credit card in an unfamiliar van. I don't even know where mine is now!

Try opening a whoosh bang without waking anyone :Eeek:

Nobody can really say what they would or wouldn't sleep through, because they're asleep. You're always asleep lightly when a small noise wakens you, but how many times has a louder noise not wakened you? You'll never know.. Because you're asleep 🤔😏

About a month ago we were parked up in the daytime at Carcassonne with about six more vans, when we got back a few people were standing around, and apparently one of the vans had been broken into while we were away.
Why just this one? Why had no one seen anything in the middle of a huge carpark?
No sign of anyone trying the other vans, some things are very strange.

Doors locked and the Growler set, although I doubt if anyone will Rob me as I don’t have a Rolex or carry £2k in cash😁😁
I do however have an iPad 😳😳
We have no money, no satnav , no tablets, no TV , no jewelry , no watches, only an old phone each, all we have is what's in the fridge, apart from one credit card and passports which are right with us at night, anyone breaking in will probably have more on them than what they could get breaking in to our van.
Seriously.

me too purse ,wallet passports, original paperwork, and cards except for caxton in safe dummy wallet minus the few euros :ROFLMAO: . I am also careful/paranoid where we park in the day or for shopping and turn the seats ,partially close blinds and put steering wheel lock on . As Eurotrotters said i also think i am quiet streetwise and can tell most scumbags and do as you likeys from a distance. Then of course most of us have plastic windows which are simple to get in.
