Road tax

So where in that does it say PHGV Motorhome’s tax is rising from £165 to £171 as far as I can see on the Gov web site it’s £165 no change🤔
PHGV tax is going up by RPI in April, I recall that was announced in the Autumn statement. The Gov web has not got the new rates on display yet.

It was a guess based on inflation and I think someone else commented similar somewhere. Yes it's £165 now but I am pretty confident it is going up next April - not seen definite info on next year's rates yet.

EDIT- here you go - prices going up by RPI...

You can if there's no change in ownership, you can tax it up to two months in advance and it will be added on to the existing remaining tax, eg 2 months left, add 12 months = 14 months.
Ok - not going through the hassle of change of ownership (essentially an additional owner on the V5) to save a few quid.

But how much is the moped

You mean the tax - going from £0 to £25. For a vehicle that produces no emissions, is only 75kg does less than 30mph, it's little different to an electric bicycle yet I have to tax it at £25, insure it at £100 plus and it's worth £500 maybe :(

You've misunderstood, as the existing owner you can tax it 2 months in advance without a problem.

Its only if there's a change in ownership that this can't be done - the original owner would declare it sold which immediately voids the road tax and the the new owner would have to tax it, if the DVLA got lucky they'd have 2 separate payments for tax for the same month!

Ah, sorry. Misread maybe. I didn't realise you could tax 2 months early. Assumed it was just a month, like MOT.

My artic tractor units back in the 1990s were about £3400 each...for two axle unit..BUSBY.

So I checked to retax my van today. Says nothing about the tax being 14 months if taxing today and tax runs out 1st April. The van is under 3500kg but over 40000 so if tax today I lose 2 months tax but pay 362 quid and avoid 600 quid fee in April I believe?

Pretty sure the £40000 luxury vehicle additional amount is not retrospective.

I've just purchased a new van conversion which will be ready for collection in March and asked if the luxury tax element of the VED was applicable for vehicles registered after 1st April 2025.

The answer from the dealer is it was not applicable to motorhomes and that the only increase will be the announced VED annual inflationary increase. I have this confirmation in written form and have agreement that if it is not the case then the purchase contract will be cancelled and my deposit returned.

You can't tax a vehicle that's already taxed.
Taxed our EV yesterday for £0 the renewal date is now a year away rather than 9 months. I was going to do it next month but so many are thinking of doing that it makes me wonder if they're going to stop people renewing early.
