Rally RETROFESTIVAL NEWBURY AUGUST 2017

Yes indeed there is - last year we had a supply on sale in the club area and I took pre orders for them. This year there are apparently sales booths around the site selling them - When we get on site I will see what the SP is and may get some down but suspect with the volume of people in the club area and the Event for Cassie we will have our hands full

@Landy lover Are there 'T' shirts for sale this year Bill?

Some vintage handbags & hat for sale https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/vintage-handbags-hat-can-take-to-retrofestival.158297/ if anyone wants to dress up at Retro?

Following on from Landys comment, I will see what the SP is.haven't used that term for years, thought it came from Australian and to do with off course betting. Other half says it can be used after a misspelt word, ie. (SP?). My own usage many years ago was, will check the SP, basically find out the lie of the land, rumour, what's the local cracking, what's happening. Any thought folks, and do many of you use it in conversation.

You are correct I have always used that term - it was quite common when I was a youngster but that was many years ago... but I am older than many of you :rofl::rofl:

Dressing up in period or character at Retro - its a bit like Malvern and the Western gear. Totally optional if you want dress up in your old military uniform 1950's gear or a mini skirt --that's generally for the ladies but what ever floats your boat !!! please feel free. you will not be out of place !!:clap2:

I've heard the words/letters SP used in conversation regarding horse racing.

Starting Price

SP stands for 'Starting Price' which means the odds of the horse at the start of the race. When you place a bet you'll usually be given the choice of the current odds on the selection and the Starting Price.

Sorry I can't give exact time for arrival on Thurs Eve but it will be late. If we can't get there Thurs Eve have you any idea what issues we may encounter if we arrive Fri morn

Hi - no worries - if you can't make it by 8pm on Thursday then Friday 8.30am onwards will be fine. There is a thread here that might be of use https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/overnight-stops-near-newbury-suggestions-please.157850/

Just a reminder in case anyone hasn't seen this:
Guide To Retro Newbury 2017

Newbury Showground RG18 9QZ – if you haven’t been before please be aware that the second slip road that takes you there from the M4 slip road is very short especially when coming off at speed!
Arrivals are from 8.30am until 8.00pm on Thursday & Friday - there is no late arrivals area. See https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/overnight-stops-near-newbury-suggestions-please.157850/ if you might need a plan B :)
Groups - just a reminder that you need to arrive together to be pitched together as mentioned on the booking details - you will need to all be either booked with EHU or without to be next to each other.
Entry Gate - RVOC/Fun will be camped near to the main arena so entry is via the Exhibitors Gate not General Camping Gate which is in fields further away. The gate staff should be aware of where Motorhome Fun are located but if not then mention that we are with RVOC & the RVs - any confusion please let us marshals know on arrival & we can speak to the staff on the gate so all informed.
Retro vehicle pass - please display this on entry & throughout the festival.
Fun banner & flags - hopefully these will be in a prominent place so you can spot our area as you arrive or just look out for the row of lovely big shiny RVs!
Wristbands will be given out on arrival & need to be worn at all times please - they are durable & waterproof.
Handout sheet on arrival – please read & keep this as it includes an emergency number.
Water - if your payload allows it then it's a good idea to arrive with some water on board but if you do need to fill up then as requested above please let the marshals know as you arrive so you can be directed to a tap before being pitched.
Waste point, toilets & showers are nearby & can be pointed out by marshals on arrival.
Marshals – please be patient with us if we are busy :whew: (116 pitches!) or fussy with how we pitch you as safety will be our foremost concern as well as fitting everyone into the RVOC/Fun area.
Programs (£1) should be available on arrival day & are a handy size to carry with you but details of days & times are also on their website & see the YouTube videos on this thread pages 3-6 to plan who you don't want to miss! :dance2:With so many performing it is likely that some favourites may be on at the same time but possible to go backwards & forwards between all the stages.
Thursday night - although it may not be in the program the bar & some food stalls may be open for a limited time & there will be probably some music (not live acts) in the Black Hangar Stage just a hop, skip & jump away from our area! (y)
Jacobs Table, Raffle & Auction Gathering - please bring some food to share (plus a paper plate for you?) if you might want to come along - everyone will be welcome :hi5: Day & time to be confirmed as subject to weather conditions. It's a great chance to meet fellow members. If you can bring along a small unwanted item to donate to the raffle then that would be appreciated & please buy some raffle tickets or bid on an auction item to help raise funds for Cassie https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/retrofestival-newbury-event-for-cassie.157185/ - check the list to see what is being offered so far. It will be possible to pay by card so no need to carry too big an amount of cash. If you think you might like to bid on the family tickets for Sunshine 2018 or Mello 2018 have a look at the links here to see what to expect at these excellent festivals:
Mello 2017 https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...rockmorton-26-29-may-3-stages-29-acts.146841/
Sunshine https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...4-28-august-meet-items-for-sale-added.144891/
Badges & windscreen stickers - we should have some small Fun badges (no names added) & stickers so please let us know if you want any of these.
Shuttle bus – there is a free shuttle bus service on event days “it picks up from Newbury railway station (north/town centre side) and drops you off at the showground entrance. First pick up at the railway station is 09.45 going to the Showground via the Travelodge at Chieveley Services, then on the hour until 10pm. The last bus from the Showground to the railway station is at 11pm.” Best to check once there if you want to go to Newbury or Chieveley Services for cash point or supplies.
Milk & bread – please bring all the supplies you may need as although there is normally a small shop selling essentials but the one booked for Newark didn’t turn up & even if there is one at Newbury they could sell out. It may be possible to use the free shuttle bus as above but less hassle to come prepared.
No cashpoint at Retro although they “provide cash back facilities with a minimum of £20 with a £1 admin fee”.
Safety – Retro have an impressive but friendly security team & strict rules which make it a safer event for everyone . There is a zero tolerance drug policy, incoming vehicles may be searched, glass bottles & cans are not allowed in the showground & drinks are served in clear disposable plastic cups. We saw security patrolling & removing glass bottles from those that had taken them into the entertainment areas but it was all done in a friendly manner. Sealed bottles bought as gifts in the food areas are acceptable.

It is fine to have cans & bottles  in our immediate camping area but not beyond there.
If you need to drive out of the camping area during Retro then please let the marshals know so this can be arranged safely.
Security may check that you are wearing your wristband especially when entering the entertainment areas. The RVOC marshalling team have a good relationship & direct communication with the organisers & the security staff so if any concerns then just let them know or report direct to security.
As well as others camping & exhibiting there are visitors with day & evening tickets. As the RVs form part of the exhibition line up expect to see people walking & looking around our area - many chats going on too!

Please don't be put off by the above (essential at large events) as Retro Newark had a relaxed atmosphere with great entertainment so sure Newbury will be the same. They also had the most smiley & hardworking team of volunteers that we have encountered at festivals so far which all added to the festival spirit

Just ask
a marshal if you have any queries or problems at Retro & if we can't sort it then sure we can find someone who can.
Be brave! If you want to mix then say hi :hi: to fellow Funsters & RVOC members around you & when passing, maybe wear your Fun badge & come along to the Jacobs Table, Raffle & Auction Gathering but equally if you just want to relax & enjoy Retro then that's fine too.
Departure – please leave by midday on Monday & leave your pitch as you found it – would be lovely if you have time to pop over & say goodbye to us marshals & any others you have made friends with or just wave as you leave.
Forum – please leave feedback & post photos :active: on this forum thread so others can know what to expect next year. Let us know if you want to be notified when the lists open for Retro Newark &/or Newbury 2018!

Us Wombles are busy packing the motorhome now  & will be offline from tomorrow morning probably until next Tuesday but hope most of your questions can be answered by the above & info. on this thread. We will be quickly checking until then in case anyone wants us to bring any of our items for sale (links in posts above) so we can pop them in the garage while loading. Hope you all have a safe journey & see you there! :hi: :hi5:
