Hey guys!

I've burned through my little 6kg calor bottle pretty quickly with this cold weather.

I had heard that it was possible and or cheaper to have a log refillable tank installed?

Would you have any advice on how this is done?

Many thanks

Luke

Morrisons nozzle is the worst I've come across. It's just too big and ugly. I'd sooner go elsewhere if possible.
I think it's the same as all the new ones.
The one at our Morrisons is the same as the BP garages where new pumps were fitted.

We changed to a pair of Gasit 11kg cylinders and a bag of continental adaptors four years ago now. Life is so much easier! The Gasit was cheaper then than the Gaslow equivalent but maybe not as pretty. DIY install.
Not about the price so much as the convenience, after changing bottles over in the wee small hours on a freezing night (near Colditz)! We also fitted the crash sensor pipes, auto switch over regulator and a pair of filters (which as a matter of interest, catch a fair amount of liquid). And a pair of Mopeka ultrasonic sensors so can see how much is left. We fill up as and when needed using the myLPG.eu app (works for the UK too). No need to carry a spare bottle or worry about how much is left in the cylinders on board.
At the moment (o/s temp 1 degree C) we’re using about a quarter of a tank a day (so about 8 days worth) keeping the van warm at 20 degrees and as much hot water as we need. Moving on every 3 days or so, so we will fill up when passing a station - many more here in the EU, perhaps because they have more MoHo’s? Gas is still readily available at home, Asda Derby now back online (about 74p), Gaslow supply from their Loughborough base (about 84p) and as others mention, we fill up when passing somewhere. Wide range of prices; we recently filled in the Netherlands for 89 cents and in DE its around 1 euro per litre.
Don’t forget to get the continental adaptors too….
Lol yeah I must admit that it’s getting more difficult but in the Midlands there is a specialist called Birmingham autogas ltd who fill tanks and bottles etc all attended service etc a lot of taxis who run on lpg go there as well as vans caravans etc they’re always busy and are very helpful there’s also a couple in the Black Country who do the same plus I see a couple of car washes sell it and also taxi companies etc so it’s still available plus the odd garage still has pumps scattered around the uk it’s a crazy situation more and more manafacturers are fitting reffilable systems on Motorhome’s etc and less places are selling it I always top up whenever I see it for sale
Asda Derby (Spondon) are back online now if you don’t mind a run up the A38 (self service, I filled up there on 28/11) and you have Gaslow over at Loughborough (attendant service) who have a shiny new tank on their yard I used whilst Asda were down.

Being as the car wash community are very close knit I think they will see it as an opportunity to not only make a bit of profit on the gas also they are hoping the gas customers will have their vans and Motorhome’s washed as well so hopefully a few more will have pumps in the future

CMA are taking over Morrisons. CMA already owns MFG. MFG are removing LPG from all their forecourts. The Competition and Markets Authority is concerned about the loss of forecourt competition in some areas so the takeover has been delayed. MFG will sell some forecourts so the deal can go ahead. When MFG take over the Morrisons forecourts they might want to take out the LPG. I hope they don’t.
As an EV driver, I’ll be conflicted if the lpg goes! MFG have some brilliant forecourts where they have 6 to 8 EV rapid charger stations around the perimeter of the petrol station. Used one in London recently. Very reliable, clean, convenient and safe. Maybe they see more £££ in the future in EVs. But more MoHo’s are converting to refillable and not all the petrol forecourts would be suitable for conversion taking the lpg out and putting DC rapid charging in?

It's been there years and years Tony. ;)

Last time I was in, I asked the staff member about the unusual dispensing nozzle. Apparently their main customers for Autogas in the early days were ARVs, hence the American style nozzle, which then requires the UK bayonet adapter.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
It looked like it had been around for a long time but I.used it for the first time this year. Its quite well hidden so it's useful to publicise it. (It's behind the Accessory Shop)

I couldn't find any full ups for LPG in the Snowdonia area.... Does anyone know of any?
Hi Luke, you can get Autogas from the Texaco garage on the outskirts of Bangor although it's not the cheapest! Another option is the CamGas depot on the Gaerwen industrial estate on Anglesey which is usually cheaper.
Cheers Clive

These guys have a good write up and a video on filling. I am not recommending them specifically as I have not used them. But the page is useful.

I'm currently considering safefill but the company selling them has said they are not to be topped up ad hoc, rather wait until empty before filling so you know not to overfill. I'm currently using calor lite from my caravan and over a weekend recently used half a bottle (hence why investigating other options). I thought they would be a good option as no install required and transferable, but apparently my local garage can refuse people filling up the bottle, so was advised to go in the van (obscuring the view of filling) rather than take in the car.. I'm still pondering... But think it is inevitable that I have to change as calor lite
are expensive and rare!

Gasit or gaslow will offer all options of both refillable bottles or underslung tanks etc including installation I have a gasit underslung tank (30 litres)

But if you go down the refillable bottles route make sure you have an exterior filling point

Morrisons are (or at least were) partners with Safefill so you should not have problems filling there, assuming you have one fail close..
Footnote.... I thought that Safefills were same as all refillable bottles and it would not let you over fill it.!

You worry about how pretty a nozzle is? !!
I hate it because its a pig to fit to the bottles. :swear2:
They even do a bayonet extension especially for Morrisons nozzles.
Of course I'm too tight to buy one and sometimes even have to lift the bottles out to fill them.

Why?
I fill my bottles in situ inside the gas cabinet without any problem.

That is a complete load of rubbish

You cannot over fill Safefill.
They have an internal float valve that shuts of the gas and there is no problems topping them up when half empty
There is a clue is in the name.

I have come to realise, thru reading quotes on this forum and not just on this subject but how much the so called experts who are selling us this gadget or that gadget know absolutely hee haw on the goods they are actually selling.
I don't have a Safefill but I knew that statement was oncorrect.
Thanks @stealfor clarifying 👍
