Hey guys!

I've burned through my little 6kg calor bottle pretty quickly with this cold weather.

I had heard that it was possible and or cheaper to have a log refillable tank installed?

Would you have any advice on how this is done?

Many thanks

Luke

We live in the sticks but have 3 Morrisons with fuel stations within 12 miles. All do autogas and we can fill Safefill’s at any…. Only 0.2p difference between them!
Kings Lynn, Wisbechistan, and Spalding? ;)

So for us, if necessary, we could take a detour to Brownhills motorhomes (about 25 mins away)
They've hiked their Autogas up to £1.20ppl. :(

Yeah but I hear Morrisons are taking their pumps out soon but not confirmed yet so there is still hope
That's not what the staff are saying, when asked. ;)

Sure I read or heard brown hills have just put a bulk gas refill tank in, possibly they see the appeal to motorhomes!
They've been supplying MHs from their bulk tank supply, in all the 18 x years we've been MH'ing. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Even so £1.20 equates to about £14.50 for a 6kg size bottle of gas..
How much do Calor charge for same.....
Last time I got one, many years ago the going rate was circa £25. What is it now ???

CMA are taking over Morrisons. CMA already owns MFG. MFG are removing LPG from all their forecourts. The Competition and Markets Authority is concerned about the loss of forecourt competition in some areas so the takeover has been delayed. MFG will sell some forecourts so the deal can go ahead. When MFG take over the Morrisons forecourts they might want to take out the LPG. I hope they don’t.

UPDATE Winter 2022 current information: Anecdotal Updates on gas price refills:

We’re seeing reports of between £27.45 and £30 for a 6Kg gas refill, with the bottle itself costing around £40 now.

Calor RRP Prices

4.5kg Calor Gas Butane Price

New bottle: £58.94

Refill: £18.95

5kg Propane Patio Gas Price

New bottle: £60.49

Refill: £20.50

6kg Propane Gas Price

New bottle: £63.44

Refill: £23.45

19kg and 47kg Propane Gas Prices

No listed RRP. Please see the local stockists for specific pricing.

A 13Kg Calor Propane refill can't be far off £50 these days. My daughter has to pay £98 for a 47Kg refill. She has no choice, and cannot buy in from anywhere else, other than through her landlord.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Or they might see Morrisons the main supermarket with them and see the benefits and keep them.

Excuse my ignorance but how heavy is 1 litre of gas coz I’ve got a 30 litre tank so can only get a maximum of 24 litres in to allow it to vaporise basically I’m trying to find out what equivalent size of bottle do I have ?

1 Litre of propane weighs 0.493 kg, for general calculations just use 1 kg = 2 Lt.

Propane, 1kg = 1.969 litres.

Edit Lenny HB got there first.

Just seen that gas flow 11kg bottles are for sale. - Hamiltons, tempting as it’s about 30 odd quid to fill a flogas conventional bottle.

do you then just bob along to a garage and squirt in gas, or do you need the filler kit installed too?

also what’s the cost to fill an 11kg refillable?

thanks in advance

My tank has the bayonet gas filler fitted to the outside of the van it’s a gasit system I have never filled bottles but I presume there are adapters to allow you to fill up which automatically cut off when bottle is 80% full to allow for vaporisation etc at a rough estimate you should get approximately 17 litres in at 77p per litre

Safefill are the only ones you can direct fill.
Others, Gaslow, Gas-it, Stako, Alugas etc., you need a filler connecting to them. You can have the filler inside the locker but not advisable as you can get refused. Outside is not much harder to install and makes filling easier.
You also need a set of adaptors for other countries, Dutch Baynot for UK & Holland, Dish for France, Italy, Greece, and Portugal, ACEM for Belgium, Germany, Austria & Ireland, Euro for Spain & newer pumps in Portugal.

At my local Morrisons LPG is .80p a litre. Approximately 20ltrs to fill would be approximately £16

Funny old thread this those that don’t have refillable say supplier’s will disappear, those with refillable say they don’t struggle to refill🤔🤔🤔🤔
Lol yeah I must admit that it’s getting more difficult but in the Midlands there is a specialist called Birmingham autogas ltd who fill tanks and bottles etc all attended service etc a lot of taxis who run on lpg go there as well as vans caravans etc they’re always busy and are very helpful there’s also a couple in the Black Country who do the same plus I see a couple of car washes sell it and also taxi companies etc so it’s still available plus the odd garage still has pumps scattered around the uk it’s a crazy situation more and more manafacturers are fitting reffilable systems on Motorhome’s etc and less places are selling it I always top up whenever I see it for sale

That's 12 litres at £2.80 - per litre -- outrageous - but it does include a bottle collection and delivery
You won’t get 12 litres of gas in a 6 kg bottle they only fill to 80% coz of vapourisation

If you do the maths on the figures below I reckon you'd get 11.4545454545 Litres in a 6kg botttle

'The Gaslow 11kg Number 1 cylinder carries approx 21 litres at 80%.'

I have 2 Safefill bottles - last MH had space for 2 but Chausson only for one. However, so glad I bought Safefill as can take out and use in Garden with gas BBQ (with correct adaptor). Pop in car and go fill up prior to any trip or simply fill en route. Very light too so helps with keeping payload down. Expensive initial outlay but Calor replacement bottles are now an obscene price AND VERY HEAVY!

Just to come back to the OP. It is a good idea to get an external fill point fitted if you go down the refillable bottle route. Some garages do not like you filling up direct into bottles ( I had a Shell assistant check on me and there are lots of stories of Total stations in France banning filling bottles.) If you have an external fill point connected to your bottle they will assume you are filling it for engine use and have a proper tank fitted.

I've only ever been checked once at a Asda in Derby - but no problem
I avoid all Total garages in France because they seem to get pissy whenever they see a motorhome.
Other than that I have never had a problem with my Safefill here or in Europe
