Prices in cafes and restaurants

You can only support them if you can afford it 🤷‍♂️ and sadly these days there are more people who can't than there is those who can.
Although you don't tend to eat/drink 'out', you do support local inasmuch as you buy food & fuel wherever you go.
It might be from a supermarket chain, owned overseas - but it will still pay local rates, it will still employ people who pay taxes and who will in turn, spend their money locally.
Every little helps.

Really? How on earth did you manage to buy a house where you are and replace mh etc?

My last proper job I earned around £30k a year and I'm still skint lol
Last proper job was17½k that was 2007, while doing a bit of Contract work (only working a few days a month) and selling on ebay for a few years after it varied between 15-25 k being self employed didn't pay much tax.
House was 58k earning 10k at the time (1986) probably worth ½ mil now.

Met up with a mate for a beer the other day - two pints of Moretti £12:40 - not sustainable - pub still busy on weekends but might as well be shut when we went.
Should have gone to spoons, they do a BBQ chicken, bacon and cheese Panini with drink ( I had 660ml bottle of Moretti) for £5.29 !

I was told, when in business, that if you think like that you should not even consider being self employed or owning a Business. You should be an employee.
I doubt if anyone running a business does not know and think about what they need to earn a week to keep going.
Probably if you didn’t think about it you wouldn’t last long.

The thing is that buisnesses have to cover their overheads. If they don't charge enough they'll go bust anyway so they might as well charge what they need to make a profit and if it puts people off at least they tried. Anyone who thinks when they eat out their paying mostly for whats on their plate is deluded

That is completely opposite to what you normally say about us who like to park for free.
What do you think we do? Tow a trailer with 2 months provisions on board.

No he is in fact correct.far more expensive & higher price rises in the Uk than here in spain where I live. France has always had eye watering prices to me.
Yes & no - a funster just reported a cauliflower being €3 in France, [Tesco at the same date 95p]
In anycase it's disingenuous to simply say stuff is invariably cheaper in Spain without looking at the whole picture, including income & property prices.

So not quite as clear cut, despite oft repeated assertions

is it  ?
I have no idealistic objection to anyone 'parking' anywhere - legally
Anyway - Northernraider is a responsible FLT plus he has 3 doggies, and thus gets a free pass :p.

Don't you ;)?
Given a lot of posters assertions about stocking up there vans, stuffing their fridges & freezers with home cooked meals etc etc.

In any case, I was just giving lie to those who claim motorhome parking restrictions will damage local business.

went to currys last friday and close by there is a costa coffee i dont know what a coffee costs in there but it must be cheap as it was banged out mostly by young women with pushchairs, and this is in Harlow, so i wonder who is on the breadline

Now that's what you call good fortune. You could sell up go full-time in your new motorhome and have a lavish lifestyle on the road

Maybe it comes down to there's just way to many cafes, pubs, fast food joints etc these days , so there's more competition for the dwindling customers they have.
The chippy I work for when I'm at home charges £10 these days for fish and chips ....I refuse to pay that so I either do without or go elsewhere. Unfortunately a lot of customers are doing the same so it gets quieter

Lenny always supports local businesses!
That’s why he bought his Hymer in France 🤣

WTF why ? That’s what all my family and friends have called it for years and some of them are Jewish. It’s well known in the Jewish community as a food to give to the sick for its easy eating and nutritious properties. 🥴
Well they must be right then.

What people usually mean is its cheaper provided they can pay in the country where things are cheaper but earn the wages they earn here.

Sadly a lot of places do this. I'm constantly amazed at wee craft shops etc too trying to sell a tartan cushion for £30 somewhere in the Highlands that you can buy for £10 on ebay and have it delivered to your door included.

I'm guessing some eedjits must pay it otherwise they'd not do it.

Actually my wife makes various Tweed products to sell in Highland craft shops. She also knits Fairisle beanie hats. It takes her 4 hours to hand knit oen in 5 colours, the shop sells them at £35 and takes 35%, the wool costs roughly £10.....so hardly getting rich is she.

I wonder if they have the "we need more income, lets put the prices up" mindset when instead they need to reduce the prices and get more people willing to go in.
That's certainly the perspective from a customer point of view. But surely that recipe just means more work, with more wear and tear on the staff and equipment etc.

Admittedly, charge TOO MUCH and there won't be ANY customers.

Each business has to determine its own sweet spot in terms of pricing. 😊

We've just had lunch at Viggos at Puerto de Mazarron (well known to Mazarron visitors). The price for a four course meal, with drinks has now risen to €14 (£12).

For this I had

Chicken pate

Peppers stuffed with tuna, swordfish and vegetables.

Swordfish and potatoes

Then, I don't eat dessert so I had a coffee, but Martin's dessert was cheesecake.

And the included drinks

And a basket of bread

Good value for our €€€€'s

The point is if I can buy the same item on ebay and have it delivered for 1/3 of the price I'm not going to pay 30 quid.

And in some cases it is the EXACT same item

A perfect example is my Barmah leather aussie hat . The green welly shop sells these at £50 and I've seen some tourist shops ask even more

Yet you can buy it for £19.99 upwards on ebay.

£35 for a beanie hat?

I think I have about 10 and I probably paid less than £35 for all of them 🤷‍♂️

Some of which are designer brands , so you have to ask yourself who is kidding who.

100% agree with you ,our family has Jewish connections, with all the usual stereotypes (pawn brokers , property (granny Britz once owned the roller skating rink on Blackpool golden mile) doctors ,lawyers and so on),
But Granny Britz’s chicken soup was a cure for all ills and was known as guess what?
Do hope this is not a case of someone being offended in solidarity of people who take no offence.

Two coffees, bottle of water, olives and two cakes 3 euros 50 cents in Bonterra at lunch time,,,BUSBY.
whats it like at the moment? are there any free pitches or rammed ,,would love to get down there again last time got cut short with covid ,,,?

Then I would say you know the price of everything, but the value of nothing. Good luck with all your Chinese machine made beanies.

No I just don't fall for that crap some try to spout about anything British being better made. I don't care if its made in China or not . Its to keep my head warm that's it and it does the job fantastic while also being in fashion. No desire to wear an itchy overpriced tea cosy just to keep someone in beer tokens👍

There's a saying a fool and his money are easily parted. It would seem there are many fools out there but I won't be one .

We bought a cooked chicken from Costco last week for less than a fiver. Much bigger than any of the so-called large ones from supermarkets. We got a huge chicken salad for two, chicken butties for dinner (lunch) the next day and then boiled up the leftovers and frame for a delicious soup. So three good meals for two for about £7.
I pressed the wrong button :ROFLMAO: But now I’m here I’ll just say YES ,boiling up chicken remains is a great cheap meal if you add some veg to the pot. And I think boiled up chicken bones are known to contain some very healthy bits and bobs! I’m sure a lot of folk complaining about cost of living could save a fortune by using some of these “old fashioned” tips.

I find that extremely offensive.

Well done. Collect your woke points from the nearest BBC office.

On topic, there are cheap places to eat that seem to be able to stay in business. Do I have any problem with the people who are obviously making more profit? No, no-one is forcing anyone to go there.
