Pitch etiquette

Just to go against the grain here slightly, my 11 year old has steam coming out of her ears on pitch etiquette!
She gets really angry at the pitch invaders, using it as a cut through and kids playing around the van. We went to a site which was a Parkdean two years ago and kids were knocking their shuttlecock into the van several times and she was furious all weekend. (The partying in the tent across the way until 5am had me on the verge of a breakdown at this point)
So much so, she’s banned me from booking any popular family sites and trawls CL sites with me for places rude pitch invaders won’t be, tents are banned and only then can she can relax 😆
She does however come with her dog companion but he’s not a etiquette breaker either!

If you let me have your address, I'll pitch a tent just outside your lounge window and observe your every move. If you leave your window open we can have a nice chat about whatever even though you may find me the most boring miserable git you have ever encountered.

No offence, but I like to talk to folk of my choosing and not have to suffer the dronings of a depressing old fart and his many ailments, family problems and heroics in the field of painting and decorating.
To be honest you sound like the one doing the moaning.

Both to the other guy then telling tales at reception.

Yet another reason I love off grid parking.

To use the example described above, the buffoon's reaction to a perfectly civil observation and polite request marked him out as just that, a buffoon. I don't feel a great desire to get to know buffoons.

If he had been reasonable and polite then I may have given him a second chance. For what it's worth, I treat people how I would like to be treated, but if they are rude I couldn't give a friar's fig and just move on.
He seemed polite

I'd have given a much less polite hand gesture.

I park my van depending on which way the view is and not by how everyone else's doors are. Especially as that will vary whether in UK or in Europe.

If someone came and asked me to turn around because my door faced theirs I'm afraid they'd be told where to go.

That said I deliberately park away from anyone else. And where there are no rules. And I refuse to pay to be subjected to weird folk

That said you would not want to be parked next to me. I'm a creep and I'm a weirdo :giggler:

Depends if you like 5 finger deathpunch and Barky dogs .

Park at own risk is my motto. No white pegs or snitches 😁

One of the problems is that so few people actually challenge these people but still moan about it. If enough people were to speak out it would rapidly diminish.
There would also be a lot of bloody noses. Folk can come on here and whine at a safe distance .

no comment. I wish I could.

Was on a 5 star site in wales told to park certain way to give everyone their privacy. Some guy tried to park other way to what was told wardens appeared told him, got heated then he left. Told he prefered the view out his windows that way round.
What constitutes a 5 star site when in Wales ?
Running water ? 😂😂😂
No, didn’t see the point as it was his dad who I caught having a shite in exactly same place night before 🤥🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That will teach you not to stay on travellers sites in the future 😆

Often, we just bunker down at home during the school holidays. We live near the Devon/Cornwall border and both counties get hammered by the uncouth for about six weeks in July and August. We get the garden and any repairs done then and have the rest of the year to go out to play.

Well 5 star in Wales means adults only lovely views cold water, tv, grey water and elson point on every premier pitch. Cost £40 a night RED KITE SITE. Very nice people excellent site.

On a CL if someone parked 3 feet away from my door I wouldn't be happy either! On an aire etc though it to be expected at times.

I really don't like it when as soon as someone has a genuine issue they are accused of being a tell-tale or snitch, IMV he had a very good reason.

Same here but that can still have it's problems.

It isn't a genuine reason. If the site had no rules about parking a certain way and it wasn't told to the person when he booked in then no one else on the site has the right to insist they turn their van around because they don't happen to like it. Its being a busybody in my book.

Anyone that thinks they have privacy on a campsite is deluded

In actual fact, the site did have rules regarding which way to pitch. The rule was clearly laid out in an email the site owner sent when booking. The buffoon in question presumably could not be bothered to read it as he knew best.

I guess there are thousands of deluded people about them - including me it seems.

What’s the point in having guidelines and rules if everyone ignores them, no-one polices them and people are afraid to challenge. It’s part of the reason this country has become so flaming (would like to use a stronger word) WOKE!
I’m fed up with the minority controlling what we can do and say. But then again I am a 74 year old grumpy git…….

I think when someone would rather pitch near the elsan disposal site than be parked next to you it says something.

It has to be a British thing

We were sandwiched between 2 French vans on a French aire last week. Both had reversed in and we reversed in as we'd rather have the bikes out of view.

I sat outside with my G & T still within the white lines as not to encroach on the spot next door. When the french couple returned to their van I politely said bonjour to be met with the death stare, I realise now from reading this thread it must have been because we were door to door! 🙄

We couldn't win though really because if we had gone in forwards we would have been door to door with the other side! 🤣

There’s not a lot you can do about it in Aires so as long as you remain within the marked area for your “pitch” then don’t fret.

Maybe we have, but I cannot recall, being on any Aires with marked lines. Oh yes, there might have been a village CP which was also the Aire. But most we have been on are just open spaces and people park at will. We also rarely see anyone else except at Bergues, but I suppose that is true of any Aire nearish to a ferry port.

Are you chaps talking about paid and managed Aires?

Loads of free Aires have marked spaces.

Ha - to be honest we’ve never used an Aire (SWMBO won’t go to an Aire) it’s taken us ages to get out of the norm (for us) to book a site in advance. We had over 30 years with children and caravan and no solar panel etc. We have yet to take the plunge with Aires or wild camping.

Going by your comments on here you'd be better sticking with sites. You could get hurt telling folk on wild spots how to park etc 😁

There’s a big difference between “telling” people how to park and reminding them of the rules which are there for everyone. I assume Northernraider you do what suits you best? But then I did admit to being a 74 year
old grumpy git!!!!!
