Pitch etiquette

Maybe not pitch etiquette but once when staying at C&CC site at West Runton the fish and chip parked about 3ft from our pitch and the customers used our pitch as a queuing area. Had a moan at the site rep and asked why the van was not parked at reception only to be told that it always parked there and a lot of b******s about not being able to provide power at the reception area
So much for being 'The Friendly Club' not the customer Friendly Club :whistle2:

We used France Passion sites a few times on our May/June French outing, naively thinking we wouldn't have too much noise with which to contend. One Saturday night in particular was horrendous with toddlers screaming and parents shrieking, the noise carrying all over the otherwise peaceful farm site. We are wondering whether CL sites in the UK will become like that!
After reading this thread I am now thinking that we'll stay home July and August

Well my pitch etiquette went a little when I yelled at a couple last weekend! :giggle: My exact words were “ if you don’t shut that f#cking dog up I’ll come over there and stamp on its f#cking head”! The bastard thing never shut up for at least an hour until my “advice”. Bark bark bark bark yap yap yap yap bark bark bark yap yap yap! They said they’d report me to the warden, I replied carry on then and we will see who gets thrown off first! Shall I go and get them for you? They didn’t and strangely the dog was a lot quieter after that.:giggle: I did get a round of applause from other pitch occupants who had obviously also had enough of its non stop noise!
Just to clarify I obviously wouldn’t have stamped on it but was trying to get my point across to the ignorant owners.
The fact you said you would stamp on the dogs head would have got you kicked off if a warden or site manager became involved ;) ! Don't think threats of violence are well tolerated on any site.

Not just campers/motorhomers/caravanners. My son just returned from a 10 day break in Santa Ponza (Majorka for those that don't know) and stated that the sun beds were snapped up at the crack of dawn even though signs up to say towels would be behind reception if placed before 8am. Needless to say never enforced. Had one couple "reserved" their sunbeds, complete with brolly and used it from 3 till 4 in the pm. Son "borrowed" the brolly as he has 3 kids and the couple cast snide remarks their way for the hour they were there.
Seems people in general are just uncaring nowadays.
My response to the sunbed fiasco ,was go down to get a bed and if no one was on them I through all the unattended towels in the pool .They started locking the pool off the day after untill 9 am . RESULT .Oh there was some miserable people 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Last year a woman with a dog on an extending lead watched while it came and had a mooch under our awning.

The dog then took a dump next to my table and chair.

I was inside with the window open. I told the woman that, even though she picked up, it was disgusting. She shrugged and said that it’s what dogs do. 🤬🤬
Sounds horrendous .

I wonder if I'm in the wrong group... to my mind, on an open field your "pitch" starts and ends at the end of your stuff. I'm old enough to remember this as inside your guylines...
If you're there, add 5 or 6 feet of personal space, and perhaps say hello.
I can't believe people winging about someone walking near the side of their tin box .
Never been on a CMC site though.

I agree, there's right way and a wrong way to go about solving this type of issue, and threats of violence wither it is in jest or not could easily have escalated the situation if said to the wrong person.
Yes I'm sure it was extremely annoying but making threats is unacceptable behaviour when there was a feasible solution available.
It may even have resulted in a visit from the boys in blue.

Kids scream, shout, play ball and ride bikes, why not, they are on holiday. Dogs bark, neighbours argue, burn bbqs, put the TV on late, they get pissed; laugh loudly, then dance to loud music till 2am and... on the way to ablutions, the ignorant bastards always walk over the corner of YOUR pitch.

If you are the type to get upset by any or all of this, whatever you do, don't holiday on Spanish campsites '\

It’s so refreshing to read that there are many others like me and the wife who get so fed up with the lazy, selfish sods who seem to think they can go anywhere they want at any time of the day/night. It’s a pity though that more people don’t say something to them, if you’re the only one who does they then consider YOU to be the culprit! Maybe we should follow them back to their pitches and take a walk around, see how they like it?
We’ve been caravanning and motorhoming for almost 40 years and it’s got worse as the years go by. I might add, it’s just as bad in European sites too.
Never noticed it in Spain.BUSBY.

Does that behaviour happen at your campsite Jim ?

Just asking.

Or Italian ones!
I remember the first time I saw Italian families on an Italian campsite. They all had full size fridges and freezers outside their tents. One family had a large three piece suite in their huge awning. But without fail they were quiet mid-afternoon when they were all asleep to get themselves prepared for the evening fun and games.

Actually, they can be great fun. But you have to go with the flow.
A few week ago in Spain came back to our van after a meal, Spanish family with many guests next to us just fired up their BBQ to start cooking at 10:30 pm.
We said hello to them & thought oh it's Easter & it's Spain.
10min later they were knocking on our door inviting us over for food & drinks.
Shame we couldn't join in we had just been to the all you can eat Wok.

I used to be terrible for pitch etiquette, I never thought it was a problem taking a short cut and walking by, 10 foot or so from someone’s van, until I read about etiquette.

I have to really think now what I’m doing if on a site, it was never intentionally rude. Nobody ever said anything I suppose they would just come on a forum and say it.

I don’t mind in the slightest if someone walks by our van but now realise others may do, so have to change with the times I suppose.

We had 3 families in front of us last week who had abt 8 kids btwn them. We have 2 dogs, both of whom are generally good natured, but wary of people they dont know.
We had a wind break up with the two dogs tethered on shortish cable leads with us behind the break. We had just sat down with a hot cup of tea and then it started. One boy, about 12 , climbed under the railing seperating the pitches and shot past. Of course the dogs reacted. Then abt 2 mins later he comes back again and the dogs almost knock over the table and hot tea. Only trying to relax. I called him to point out that he shouldnt do this , as it was disturbing the dogs and could be dangerous with the hot tea getting knocked over. He totally ignored me.
Then abt 10 mins later a sibling abt 2 yrs old tried to do the same thing , but to get to the dogs!! I shouted at him , I would be worried the dogs could either knock him over or scare him, then you get into ' you should keep your dogs under control ' type of conversation.
So enough is enough, I found the warden and asked him to have a word, which he did.
Our neighbours had had the same with them and they had a GSD, , who didnt take kindly to strangers wandering on the pitch! And again despite words they still kept doing to them, until they put a wind break right up across the back of the pitch.
Does my head in. People often complain about dogs barking on a site, but quite often it can be things like this that set them off, with people having no thought or consideration for others.
That’s why I never park up on gypsy encampments 😉

Fixed that for you.

Thank crunchie im an FLT , id hate to be judged by this lot.

That's another reason id avoid sites , i park up away from everyone as i like my music , i don't like to hear everyone's cupboards open and close aswell as their cassette flap and i don't want to have to always stop my dogs from speaking , playing and expressing themselves.
Folk standing whining about how its too hot or too cold or what other mediocre thing they gas on about to each other over hedges and windbreaks can be just as annoying as a dog barking or a child playing to me.

So park near me at yer own risk 😁

I always thought it was hilarious on campsites how people get all territorial over their wee bit grass they rent for a few days . Windbreaks and solar lights marking out their boundaries ...the odf pot plant and rifle tower for good measure. Then a sentry walking up and down dusting the car , fidgeting with the ariel , back and forth with buckets of water, scared to sit down and relax incase an invader steps on their grass 😉

Bored people lol

It’s a state of mind

I used to live in a chichester town house and at weekends my drive was often blocked by numpties who parked partially accross it giving little thought to how I might get out. The drive was at an angle and it was easy to block me in if you parked carelessly. I would get so mad, I would use every bit of extra large tubes of prit stick when affixing abusive A3 sized notes to their windscreen, positioned so they would need to remove the glue before they could drive, I’d delight in the mess it made and the 40 minutes it took them to remove enough of it to drive away. When out of Pritstick I would waste so much time with an eye on the car, just so when they returned I could catch them and give them both angry barrels.

One sunny Saturday afternoon mid barbeque, I became absolutely raging when I spotted a car blocking the drive. I was ranting and raving about these selfish bastards and what I was going to do with them if I caught them. When my 12 year old daughter asked.

Are you going out then dad?

No I said, thats not the point

So why are you so mad, they are probably only at the shop, they’ll be gone soon.

Dad we are so close to the shops you will never stop people parking there. You should only get mad if you are going out.

Being taught life lessons from a 12 year old girl. I laughed and had a mindset change right there.

We lived their another two years and in that time loads of idiots partially blocked my drive, but funnily enough, never when I needed to go out, I never got mad about it again and saved a fortune on Pritstick.

Quite agree, once people sense there is no sanction they tend to do as they like. On a southern France site, large commercial site near Beziers, the practice of 'reserving' a sunbed with a towel whilst going to lunch was easily resolved by the smart young girl on pool duty. At various periods of time around the middle of the day she would blow her whistle and instruct everyone to get out of the pool and return to their sunbed/towel on the floor. Those spots with a towel but no occupant found their towels placed in a nice pile by the entrance for when the owners returned! It doesn't take a lot to keep things running smoothly, once people see that their selfish actions are sanctioned they are more likely to play the game. Embarrassment is a powerful tool.

Is an Englishmans motorhome also become his castle?
I am happy sitting outside my motorhome door simply chatting to any one who chooses to pass by it .
I call it being sociable

My idea of having a good holiday. Same German, English, Belgian and French on a French aire every year. We party, play Pétanque, here is a music evening.
Sitting quietly in the corner of a field with a book is not for us.

This related to use of space, although not campsites.

When I was working in Turkey I was staying in a hotel on a hill, so the restaurant was on the lowest floor, where the lift stopped of course.

When exiting from the lift for breakfast I was often confronted by a crowd trying to push in before I could leave. Before I left the lift I discretely pressed the 'Emergency Stop' button.

I often wondered how long they stayed there.

[It was a German owned hotel, as was the airline I worked for.]

I don't blame you for doing your own thing, how on earth do dump your toilet and waste water ? Do you pay to do ? Expect rate payers to provide facilities foc . Or do you dump it in the hedge ,road drains, or sea, if you don't go on campsites ?

If im somewhere with no aires to dump then i simply don't use the cassette. I bag and bin solids same as the dogs and i use a bottle for fluids and dispose of in drain or sea or shrubbery. Grey water goes down a drain . Ive paid plenty tax in my life and still do on fuel etc, vat etc so rate payers aren't paying for me 😉
