Perfect 2021 Trip

I sold my van pre lock down due to extension and health at the time. Desperate to buy one now but I see all makes and models with all problems and now with the puppy who is a lovable dick I am worried about him in the van! Going to try to get to the South of France next year take the dogs and some books, switch my phone of and not check emails!
Also need someone to slap me quickly as I have been toying with the idea of a 5th Wheeler!
<Broken link removed>
What you need is a fabulous A class motorhome with loads of floor space for the furry one and sprawling space for you to relax plus a comfortable bed for lots of zzzzzzzeds. Any ideas?

If you're after a fifth wheeler, this one's pretty hot, and I doubt it currently has any damp issues

Trip 1 Little Jaunt around England
might be drawn to Scotland.

Trip 2 Southerern portugual via France with a brief flirt with NE Spain.

Hopefully Chunnel, St Petersburg, Moscow then down through Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and back through Romania, Hungary etc. Haven't had quotes for health and breakdown insurance yet! :(

We looked at going to Russia but decided we couldn't be bothered going through the hassle of getting a visa and having to be at a given entry point at a specific time. ( We are useless at planning)
Nationwide Flex plus breakdown says it covers Russia, west of the Urals, ( up to 8 m and 7.5 ton) Their travel insurance is worldwide.

The nearest we got to Russia was at Narva in Estonia and if Russia is anything like Narva we definitely won't be bothering.

Looking to spend as much time touring Europe as I can fit in, just going to get a ferry and then see where I end up, also going back to Ireland.

May look at Moscow, would be a great trip.

I don't recommended Germany in October as that's what we did this year, weather was sh*t.

Did South West France in February this year not hot but low 20's OK for Feb.
For a proper holiday it's got to be in the 30's.

Probably little consolation but September was glorious.

Any recommendations for Croatia and Slovenia both on our list for next year?
Don’t miss the Istrian peninsular at the top of Croatia, towns like Pula and Rovinj are worth a visit. Wild camping is frowned upon so check out
They have a number of largish sites across the country including the only site in Dubrovnik, they also accept the Acsi out of season card, or did when we were there.

Taking Simon's assumption at face value and assuming we could get away from Basia's Mother, or B. flies to and from, then it would be down Italy, ferry to Greece in March/ April, after 90 days fly back, buy another MH, tour Poland till 90 days out of Schengen(for us (being resident in Poland does not count to Schengen 90 days), fly back to Greece for another 90 days and maybe leave the MH there in my old boatyard, or ferry back.

On internal Schengen borders can ANPR cameras identify the driver? And if we swap drivers and the other one hides?

Just have two MHs and keep swapping and/or employ local driver to cross the border.

Cats , killing and more ways comes to mind.

And if you think I am joking? I have had enough of local bureaucrats, especially ones that are disregarding burEaUcrats so that the little man is squeezed.

Happy Christmas and Travelling NY.

Geoff

We were in Germany at the same time as you this year and weather was, indeed sub-optimal but the previous year it was glorious. Best autumn colours in Austria and Germany we have ever seen, anywhere.
2021? North for Spring/Summer, South for Autumn.

Just re-visiting the earlier comments about sitting on the beach.

In general I agree if it is a tourist beach resort.

However there are more remote beaches; one in particular one a quiet Greek island, to which one has to walk 30 mins. from car/scooter park and then glorious sand, a few tamarisk trees for shade, small family taverna(tables in sand and bamboo shade).

Activity? Yes. lie on beach 10 minutes, swim in surf, wonder over and chat to other members of the '........' club who we know for ??? years. Another swim to make one thirsty. At X o'clock wander up to taverna for a beer, get chatting to whoever - German bookseller, Swedish film Director, even me? Then it is time for Meze. The other beach bums arrive. 'Dionysia! What has Eurinia(Mother) cooked special for lunch?' Often goat from the hillside.

Carafe(s) of wine while waiting for well-cooked home food with salad. Another carafe? Well why not. Some philosophy, no politics, some literature. One day talk to the young Englishman who was the last personal secretary of the old Englishman who planted the Tamarisk trees and accompnied the old guy for his last visit to the island to die. We all often drink to the old man's heaven.

Then maybe another swim, siesta, and re-convene before the magnificent sunsets, dropping down into the sea.

Ouzo, then for the 5 mins. of the sunset the 'Club' rule is absolutely silence, till the last tip of the sun disappears, then ouzo glasses Chinese 'Yammas!'

Another carafe? Just for the walk home.

Beach holidays? I hate them.

Geoff

[Even better when I had my boat anchored 30m off the beach]

Did you know, I have always fancied a Frankia!!!

I am going East!
I have never done the Norfolk and Lincolnshire coast and it was to be my big trip this year.
Maybe I am not meant to go ....... 😕
Don’t forget the Suffolk coast from Felixstowe and up as well. Orford, Aldeburgh, Thorpness, Walberswick. Lovely little towns.
Phil

Scotland/Islands in April, then ferry to Roscoff as early in July as possible and see where the road goes from there.

Mainly in 2022 but starting Xmas 2021 meander down to Denia and park amongst the trees at Camping Los Pinos. The restaurant in the coast path near by featured in a Rick Stein programme; we will try this out. Then vegetable paella a little further along the coast.
A month or two wandering along that coast before heading home.

Had a Vietnam 17 day tour cancelled at beginning of March just as all this kicked off...
Have a trip booked to West Canada, the Rocky Mountaineer and an Alaskan cruise booked for May/Jun next year...
...but I can't see that happening either.
Don't think a sufficient proportion of the population will be vaccinated by then.

So I'd love to do either/both next year
We have this in mind for next year but I have been holding off booking for obvious reasons.
May I ask, who did you book with? I'm thinking about Trailfinders.

We had a South American Cruise paid for then cancelled. To include Machu Pichu, Belmond Train, and others. To disembark in Vancouver, We were then to do a 16 day drive tour taking in Jasper, Whistler, The Lake?, Banff, Calgory, others on the way back to Vancouver. Anyway the cruise and SA tours was organised by Imagine Cruising. Used them a number of times for big cruises and tours. We have been really pleased with them...........HOWEVER, it did take them more than 6 months to refund our fully paid up trip.

Get on the tunnel one late afternoon before our extended frequent traveller ticket runs out. Stop somewhere close to Calais (we will miss the convenience of Cite Europe). Wake up in the morning, open my Ventusky weather app and see where the good weather is likely to be. And then point the motorhome that way and see what happens.

That is what I love about the motorhome. I spent most of my career planning things in detail. Now I just want to go with the flow.

Late April ferry across to Rosslare, turn left, follow the Irish coast clockwise until Belfast, ferry across to Scotland then the NC 500 anti clockwise, (done it the clockwise) then eventually down the English coast again going clockwise, until we reach the Severn bridge crossing, around early September, and home, the benefits ?, no language issues, no passports, no health insurance, supporting the home nations. We decided on the "Brexit" result, the Europeans are obviously not happy with that decision, and seem to ignore that we are not their enemies, simply more independent thinking,

France, Southern Alps, 3 weeks in the Summer.

Used to moan about the market being rammed, can’t wait to rub shoulders while mumbling desolat!
Maybe not 2021 but 2022 is the possibility of going round the Baltic coast, including the Russian bits.

That route from Calgary through to Vancouver then a cruise we did way back in 2000 hiring a car from Calgary to Vancouver. Do not miss Hell's Gate where the Hope river goes through his narrow gap. Some of the best cherries we have ever taken. Came round a blind bend to find a pick stopped having felled an Elk which he had to report but you get to use the meat! The rockies are a sight to behold. We had very good weather in early August and took us over a week stopping wherever including our first night out of Calgary at Dead Mans Creek by the Trans Canada Highway. Had the large fish and chips in Hope when the waitress asked if it was for one each or were we sharing so naturally said one each - Wow that was some fish. Vancouver was interesting as the local transport was all on strike but the elevated automated trains were still running with no fares being taken.

Let me know when you are about to hit the Lincolnshire coast & I'll send you a list of the local sessions.

Peloponnese for the scenery, weather and friends we've made over the years. Yammas to a fellow Yorkshireman.

Already started to plan our 3-4 month Nordic trip (never been there before), taking them all in including 2 weeks in the Faroe Isles and 4 weeks in Iceland. Hopefully get to see the most Westerly and Northern points in Europe, midnight Sun and the Northern Lights.

Norwegian coast as far as Lofoten Islands ..for as long as it takes. West coast of Scotland for as long as it takes and then hopefully the Alps with a bit of fine weather chasing probably as I guess that will be later in the year. And as much UK fill in as I can...Peak District..Lakes..Cornwall. Wow!!..it is going to be a good year 😄😄

Anywhere, anytime....because we can. :xrofl::xrofl:

Just goes to show -- I couldn't think of any thing worse.
Sitting on a beach is absolute torture to us - so boring.:Eeek:
Its all about the journey for us now and no rushing any where :cooler:.
We rise late and after a casual breakfast - we try and set off before noon.
Driving stopping and looking around a village, driving stopping for a lazy lunch, driving stopping for the night and a nice evening meal. :drinks:
Repeat daily and it doesn't matter where - in UK or Europe.
Perfect -- :clap2:All that's good about motorhome life on the road.

But to answer your question -- Normandy, Brittany and down the west coast of France for a month.:france:
Same for us, except we’ll head vaguely in the direction of Italy😘

At the moment just a trip out in the MH would be good, in tier 4 from tomorrow night for who knows how long !!
