Ouch! A1 Newark... Hire Motorhome destroyed. (Nobody seriously hurt as far as I know).

And you’re not allowed to climb up on the back of the trailer or load unless you’re in a full arrest harness.
:rofl::rofl:
In serious road accidents on dual carriageways and motorways, there is usually a HGV involved. Across many countries in Europe there are lower maximum speeds for HGVs, and dependent on weight of load being carried, much lower speed limits. Why do our Government continue to allow this carnage on our roads day after day. It is simple physics, the heavier the vehicle, the longer the distance required to stop.
The limits are the same in the UK as elsewhere in the EU 56mph.
The only lower limit you occasionally see here is fuel tankers restricted to 50mph but it is load dependent I believe.

It’s true, can not even walk on the back to sweep off.

What you’re suggesting then is because one vehicle/driver cannot use the road correctly then every other vehicle that managed to use that section of road correctly has to suffer reduced speed limits therefore longer journey times. I would rather just see the problem driver dealt with appropriately than everyone else having to change.
The Lorry Driver or Motorhome driver?

Well now your telling me something i didnt know after 50 odd years in road haulage.I always thought that after we joined the EU our truck speeds, hours etc were in line with the rest of the EU. I never ever realised they had reduced speed limits for heavier trucks.I take it you mean 44 tonne gross vehicles. If this is true i think someone needs to inform the drivers and the garages that test the speed limiters of this.BUSBY.

Because doing something about the hazard is better than just putting a band-Aid on it?.

Welcome to the REAL world?. Where the Dicks think they are not bound by the rules for us lesser mortals?.

Bottom line is you cannot beat the Mk1 Eyeball, and the computer behind it. Despite all the Hype about A-I, Computers are ONLY a tool.

I`ve seen Steel roped before to-day, and only just recently too!. Ratchet Straps as well. We had Chains at Struthers, and got a real bollocking if we didn't do it "proper".
Would only trust chains and a bloody good headboard if carrying steel,,BUSBY.

Only because people let you past
****ing dangerous even in cars & should be able to be turned off.

More nonsense.
I don’t know about the new Daf, but we have a New Ssangyong, that has automatic lane control amongst other ‘safety features’, but we can turn at least turn it off! As an aside, the sensors for the lane assist, auto wipers, auto lights etc are all built into the windscreen. The wife was out last week, was hit by a brick that broke the laminated screen. It’s an Insurance claim but would you believe Auto-Windscreens can’t locate one in the U.K.? Being laminated, it hasn’t fallen apart yet, but it is covered in 2” clear repair tape! Not very good.......😡

I'm sure a lot of the speed limits in europe were 50mph and I didn't drive a tanker, it was a few years ago so I could be wrong but sticking the cruise control on 50 definitely rings a bell 🤔

50 mph on N and D roads,,where indicated.BUSBY.

what about the car driver?

That will also have to be repaired in the workshop so that they can set the cameras correctly for the lane assist.

Yes ,N&D as busby said.

I think I would be sending a letter to Ssangyong HQ.

Mine's a 7.5 ton and when on motorways I try to stay at 60 to 65 mph to avoid being stuck between HGV's or have them sitting on my rear bumper, I have no doubt HGV drivers get frustrated following a motorhome travelling at 50 to 55 mph and this could lead to an accident

Do you think they will send a windscreen by return post?

No but they may know where there is one or be able to expedite shipping.

When we needed a new exhaust system for our grey import Toyota we were told it wasn't available but an email to Toyota in Japan and a new system arrived within a week. We did have to pay for it and the carriage charge but still cheaper than having a custom make.

Thanks for the info...
at the moment it’s in the hands of the insurance company and AutoWindscreens. The car is still drivable, I’ve been told SAFELY, so for the minute at least, we’ll put up with it.... If necessary, I will be getting on to Ssangyong in due course though! 🤔

Longer journey times my foot..High speed has little to do with journey times it's keeping moving. If a speed limit stops accidents then it will make your journey quicker..Trucks travel long distances in virtually the same time as cars and are restricted to 56 mph.BUSBY.
Total nonsense. When I was working as a courier I occasionally left LHR at the same time as a scheduled truck. Dropped off at CDG and had my sleep before he arrived. It was nearly always at night, so no traffic. Any delays at the tunnel would have affected us both. I used to set cruise at 75/78 in UK and 130 in France, both GPS.

Note the word occasionally,, Trucks are doing sustained high mileage day in day out for years and years. I have driven Benidorm to Derby in 25 hrs non stop practically but could not have repeated it the next day.BUSBY.

Note the word 'left'. This particular truck left LHR daily at the same time, and the drivers had accommodation close to CDG where they slept before making the return trip the next night. . I only ran on demand and only occasionally picked up from LHR. I merely used it to indicate we sometimes left at the same time

Hi looks like just before the turn off for Brownhills at the A46/A17, All ways getting tail backs there getting off the A1

If I’m travelling on the A1 heading for the A17 and it’s busy I carry on for a mile or so to the coddington turn which picks up the A17 at the roundabout a couple of miles down , it’s been a while since I’ve been down there though

I’ve been driving for a living since 1990 , I’ve seen enough rear end shunts in queues to avoid them wherever possible, a number of deaths I'm sure

a colleague of a friend found out his wife had been killed on the M56 a few years back , she was heading east, came off at Runcorn but due to roadworks the overspill was down lane one , a truck didn’t see the queue and cleaned her up , he looked on the internet to see if he was headed into a long trip home to see a picture of her car smashed to pieces.

I don’t queue on the carriageway at junctions , I avoid being the meat in a truck sandwich and never sit alongside a truck on the motorway

It’s a 7.5 ton weight limit through that way

I’ve beat a number of trucks to the roundabout going that way , sometimes it can be a nightmare getting around the A46 /A17 roundabout just off the A1

My thinking of travelling at 60 - 65 keeps us out of the trucks way but gives us a bit of reserve if we need it. I used to spend weeks travelling at 70 to meet travel times targets. It’s more relaxing not having to rush any more.

It does amaze me how many people I see on the motorways sitting in the blind spot , I give the plate a quick glance , if it’s foreign I’m past as quick as I can

I’ve seen a few cars pushed sideways up the motorway, first one about 20 years ago on the M62 , the traffic slowed to about 20mph but I could hear screeching of tyres , initially I was waiting for the bang but unless he was skidding from 150mph it went on for ages

a red fiesta with a terrified young girl in it pushed sideways for quite a way , the driver had steered her onto the hard shoulder OK though , couldn’t work out if that was a good thing or not, he seemed to know what to do.

spoke to another driver , he just laughed , the road out of Dover was like skittles at the time
