Why do Spanish always have prison bars on their windows even the upstairs ones?
It is so we can leave all the windows & doors open for the fresh air without some toe rag* helping themselves. & they look nice

Where we are in Alcoceber it seems that despite a full 5G phone signal shouting in Spanish day and night helps with communicating with each other.
So true, on speakerphone. Always make us smile. They also don’t send texts, just long and loud rambling voicemails in WhatsApp. My daughter gets them all the time.

I Said " I can't repeat actual words I replied with , or I might get banned from this friendly site !!

I think if you were to canvass any European nation on the wisdom or otherwise of that decision, those that have any opinion on the subject will probably by a 90:10 majority think that it was nuts.

So don't mention the war. (I did once, but I think I got away with it.)

All those on this thread with negative comments, should be thankful that they only have 90 days to put up with this inexcusable behaviour....we live here permanently....😃😃🇪🇺🇪🇦
Except the comments are tongue in cheek and not malicious.

They also have the 'anticipation gene' removed before they get into a motor car!

It gets put into a jar and remains at home until they have finished driving.

The cars they drive have to have the indicators flashing all the time and must not be driven more than ten feet from the leading car.

But I love the place!

Yes we visit their country (countries) and although love what we find there, but we can’t quite get our British heads around the fact that the people there there have a different culture and different way of life.

We actually love the culture of different countries in Europe as much as the food .and architecture

I think it’s just the Spanish way. I bet they weren’t intending to be rude.
It does certainly seem to be the Spanish way. The hours they keep is clearly a product of the country's temperature. The deeper question is why and how they have developed a culture that involves talking at such a high volume level and why they consider that behaviour that intrudes upon others is acceptable. The question I long to ask in restaurants or campsites is "Is our conversation disturbing you? If not, why do you think that yours should be such as to disturb us?" You say "I bet they weren’t intending to be rude" but are they really unaware that their shouting can be heard by others who have no interest in what they are saying? Isn't being thoughtless, intrusive and inconsiderate rude in every culture?

Awareness is sometimes lacking...but generally speaking no bad intentions...
We've lived amongst and with Spanish for 25 years...I still sometimes get annoyed...mainly when I've been woken..getting to know how Spanish tick is an essential part of integration...
Bad service annoys me also...but believe me our Spanish friends agree....
I suppose over the years we have adjusted because we are here all year round...but occasional visitors might find some aspects of Spanish ways a bit challenging...and equally they think we are different

Many moons ago we were walking in the hills above Tottana with you and you had invited a Spanish friend Angela, who worked in Camping Sierra Espuna.
I wast talking to her about different cultures and asked what she thought of the British.
She replied that she could not understand why we said por favor and gracias after every sentence.
"Just get on with it" she said laughing!

Yes.
I don't like being noisy, I prefer to keep a low profile, I'm not typical in this, so I agree with the fact we are loud speakers.
But, as others have said, is the way we speak, it's not intended to bother you. Would be different if someone was attacking or insulting you, but don't expect residents in a foreign country to you to behave like you want when you're visiting, it doesn't work like this, I'm sorry🙂

I can’t answer your question because I am not Spanish.

I don’t find them rude though even if they are noisy.

When in Rome and all that…

I think the loudness might go back to the Franco era. By talking loudly they showed they weren’t conspiring or saying anything they shouldn’t. Nothing to hide so to speak.
Though wouldn't be a bad theory, I just believe all Mediterranean countries are a bit the same and louder than the northern ones(y)

They think we’re wrong because they are too frightened to come out themselves, i’ve had dutch and german people telling me that themselves

I just tell them i’d do it again and again, then tell them to f off and bother someone else

Works every time 👍

And Terry we still socialise with Angela....she's a great friend with a Spanish sense of humour...although Brits are different, she has worked with them for years upto retiring this summer..

What's the opinion on tipping? When my ex lived and taught in Murcia and I visited monthly for a week or long weekend depending on shifts, Spanish colleagues said that tipping wasn't expected, although they left small change in the saucer when paying for their meal, and never after just a coffee.

Not really expected in bars or coffe.I only tip where I go for breakfast as they went over & above during covid & it was appreciated.
