Last night we stayed at Playa de La Pobla de Farnals on a free aire. Gravel compound about 400m from marina and a row of restaurants/bars. nice spot. Tonight and for a few more we are at La Brisas aire in Peniscola. I hear that the local soft drink has phallic enhancing properties.

Looks good, we will bear them in mind when we are in that area (probably in about 3 weeks)
Currently trying to find somewhere favourable to head for in Caceres in a couple of days.

Today is Magacela.
Free parking
Free chemical waste disposal
Free grey waste disposal
Free water
Free Wi-Fi
AND
Free electricity at 16amps
Six spaces for up to 8m motorhomes and if full, there is a flat, waste ground area right next to it where you could probably fit another six of any size.
A very, very quiet area, we intend to attempt the climb up to the castle tomorrow morning when it’s cooler (21c at the moment).
There is a convenience store close by , along with a bakery. There are bars, Spa shop and pharmacy going up the hill en-route to the castle, (we will likely need to visit all three)! 🥵😬😗🍻😁👍

View attachment 892905
Walked up today starting at 9.30am
Absolutely stunning views from the top, and the town itself with very narrow streets perched on the hill was also really interesting.
Found two bars, one doing tapas, and the ‘Spar Express which sold all sorts of food and fresh bread plus hardware items.
By the time we came down the temperature was 23 degrees in the shade!
We took our time going up with a few stops, I found it relatively easy, Julie was ‘puffing’ all the way, so how hard it is depends on the individual.
A highly recommended stopover, both for the town and the aire facilities.

Following lots of recommendations from Funsters we are now at Camping Caceres.
Bit of a grey day but sure to brighten up, we are here for at least 2 days, possibly more. Currently they are offering 4 nights for the price of three.

Today’s stop was Merida.
Got there at 10am and the best ‘free’ Park4night places were all full, as was most of the parking near the stadium. However, our ‘parking angel’ was with us and we found a spot in a side road, within sight of the stadium, and close to the Roman arena & theatre, literally only two minutes further away.
Merida was a great visit, compact and interesting, although it got really hot during the day. Arrived back at the ‘van’ at 5pm and the cab thermostat read 38 degrees!
The Roman viaduct was particularly amazing with storks on top of nearly every column.

Not really a place to overnight in (although the ‘pay for’ aire looked okay) we drove on to Monesterio where the aire is in a huge, flat car park next to a Spar supermarket on the edge of town. Very quite with free black and grey waste disposal, fresh water and free electric.

Todays stop is Gelves (thanks to the many recommendations from various Funsters)
Got here at 10.30am just as a large RV moved out of one of the best shady spots - result!
Definitely a nice place to stay for visiting Seville 👍
Going in this evening as too hot at the moment, the bus runs every 20 minutes there and back until nearly midnight- perfect.

Got back last night at 10pm and it was still 28 degrees in the motor home.
Luckily we are almost fully shaded until 12 noon and partial shade until after 1 pm which helps, otherwise it could have been warmer!
Not sure what we will be charged yet (you pay when you leave) but on the leaflet they gave me, they have underlined 20e per day.

Word of warning/top tip for Gelves!
Thursday night: noisy bar in marina, can hear a pin drop after 11pm.
Friday night: Same bar until gone 2am, the noise is amplified across the water to just about all pitches except (maybe) the three to the extreme left, (left of the shower block) which is slightly shielded by the reception office in between. Otherwise no real chance of sleep before they close.
Saturday night: Yet to find out but anticipate similar.
So, probably best avoid Fridays/Saturdays.

As I couldn’t sleep, at 2am I walked around outside of the marina and the parallel road outside was quiet along its length with easy parking for motorhomes. Also shady both sides (during the day obviously) due to a high hedge between it and the main carriageway that passes by.
We were ready to move today but two of the three aforementioned spaces on the left became available so will try one of them first to see how much difference there might be, all in the aid of research!

Update on Burgos.
I feel that I undervalued this site! Apart from the aforementioned facilities I have to add that the showers are the best we have experienced for a very long time for the following reasons:
Three large toilet/ shower blocks (two currently open)
Cubicles larger than average and two compartments in each with a large bench seat and hooks.
Lever action (as opposed to irritating 10 second push button)
Temperature up to scalding
Pressure nearly knocks you side ways
Flexible shower heads/pipe as opposed to fixed so you can wash everywhere if you know what I mean!

At one end of each block are washing up sinks, at the other end clothes washing sinks. (They do also have a laundry on site)

And if that wasn’t enough, in the centre of the motorhome pitches there is a stand alone area of 8 sinks, 4 for clothes, 4 for washing up, all with fully heated water.

Burgos:- this is a ‘must visit’
What a great city with a compact centre that is mostly pedestrianised with many plazas. The river runs through the middle and has wide promenades both sides with topiary and statues.
A proper cycle track runs past the site alongside the river and all the way into the city centre and there are further cycle ways throughout the centre.
The cathedral is magnificent, we spent 90 minutes exploring it.
There is a castle high up with far reaching views.
Prices are inexpensive and we found a great, traditional tapas bar before walking back to site, fully inebriated on sangria!

I hope the above is inspiring and helpful.

Thank you for that info, now on my to do list 👍

To confirm; Saturday night as noisy as Friday
Having moved to one of the pitches left of the shower block, you could still hear the noise (especially with windows open) but definitely not so intrusive. Windows shut with just the roof vent open and the noise was very faint.
So; Sunday to Thursday park in any pitch
Friday/Saturday park in one of the three spaces on the left or the parallel street outside the marina

Today we are at Sanlucar de Barrameda, our first proper beach stay.

Left Gelves this morning, did a big shop at Carrefour and arrived in Jerez for lunch and sightseeing before moving to here at 5pm’ish.

A proper campsite, 50m from the beach, slightly rustic, with various pitches; hard standing and grass. The hard standings are a bit bleak but the grass ones are nice with pitches surrounded on three sides with 5ft hedges and trees. 16e per night including electric (4amp) showers, toilets and washing up sinks. It also has a laundry on site.
To top it all, there is a beach bar/restaurant just outside the gate 🍻🍷👍

By coincidence we have had a great result: in two days time thousands of horses will board boats at the beach for a river crossing related to the current El Rocio pilgrimage. Never expected that!

We are staying for 4 nights but may extend it as we were planning to go to El Rocio on Friday, oblivious to what is going on there. The extremely friendly site owner here has advised that we would have no chance of a pitch there as people were already queuing up trying to get in.

Finally, there are two sites here, the other is not so nice and 650m from the beach. Our one is called: Sanlucar de Barrameda (also known as Sanlucar AC Parking on the Pitchup website).

Todays stop: El Rocio
Or to be more precise, The Global Tribe Village approximately 10km North of it.
This is an eco site reminiscent of the hippy age and very laid back. There is no black or grey waste disposal and no water to fill tanks. However, there is plenty of fresh drinking water, hot, solar showers (still hot at10pm) toilets of the compost variety and washing up sinks. Electric is also available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be provided if you want.
Lots of chill out areas and lots of hippy style activities if you want them.

To get to El Rocio: The site is 1 km off the main road so there are three options:
Cycle all the way
Cycle to the bus stop (1km) and catch the hourly bus
Walk to the bus stop and catch the hourly bus.
We did option 2 and chained our bikes up near the bus stop outside a restaurant, everything was okay on our return.

We were slightly apprehensive visiting as it is the pilgrimage weekend and last year there were more than a million visitors! However, being Friday and the town being quite big, it didn’t feel too busy at all and it was amazing watching all the horses, carriages, processions and postering, totally recommended. We left just after 8pm and it definitely seemed to be filling up with more and more people. Saturdays are likely to be even busier.

Got here at noon, had lunch and explored the town, absolutely love it. The only disappointment was that we looked everywhere for Gino, Gordon and Fred but there was no sign of them ☹️😁

Found a great parking spot on Park4night: ‘43 Plaza Peninsula Iberica’ which is a large flattish grassy area with amazing views alongside and elevated above the road and a 15 - 20 minute slow amble to the centre of everything. Very quiet and very dark 👍
To access it, follow your satnav to the final destination then keep going a few yards further and you will see the entrance to the track on your right. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID and enter the track at the other end, which is steep and very very pot holed and furrowed (d’oh!) 😖

Today’s stop Alhambra, Granada.
Prebooked a space for 48 hours commencing at 5pm so that we can make our guided tour at 9am tomorrow and have a second day in Granada city. The main entrance and guided meeting point is literally a five minute walk from here 👍
The cost was 48.29e.

May have got it wrong though as we booked via Parclick inputting our Motorhome details and it still issued a ticket. However, when we arrived, the barrier for the coach car park wouldn’t rise (P5) so we tried the next one (P4) which did. The car park spaces were too small but luckily connected to P5 so we drove across to it.
It might mean that when we leave we have to go out via the P4 exit!

(If I have got it wrong, it’s because I assumed that prebooking was cheaper than paying on arrival)

Todays stop Baeza (Halfway to Cordoba)
Had intended leaving tomorrow afternoon for Cordoba but love this place!
The historic centre reminds me of a mini Caceres but full of locals and no tourists, lots of narrow, twisty medieval streets with small, hidden bars and restaurants. To the side of the historic centre is the big, long main park/square full of local families with their young children and a row of restaurants down one side and a long pedestrian street leading back towards the aire from one end.
Consequently, we are staying an extra night.

The aire here has loads of spaces, is flat and divided by hedges every two pitches. Free parking, free water and free grey/black waste disposal. Only a ten minute walk from the centre.

Fandabbydosey!

Follow up on Baeza:
Arrived last night at 6pm and for some strange reason (not for the first time) the Garmin brought us through the narrowest streets instead of the easy access bus route.
Ended up in a confrontation with a stubborn Spanish man who instead of pausing to let us through, stopped right in front of us and insisted that I attempt to reverse into a space too small (it was his right of way after all) 🤷
After a 15 minute stand off, a huge line of cars behind me, some behind him and a local trying to talk sense to him, he called the local police 👮!
Who turned up and promptly ordered him to reverse 😂
We then had a police escort all the way to the aire followed by a big ‘thumbs up’ from both policemen.
I love all these extra mini adventures that we are having on the side 👍

Todays stop Cordoba
A lot more here than we expected so will probably stay for three nights.
Today we did both the hop on, hop off busses around the city with a short walk in between. The temperature is 34-36 degrees so that’s more than enough for today.
Tomorrow we will visit the cathedral and maybe the Alcazar the next day.

Thanks to all those Funsters that recommended the stopover by the zoo, it was easy to find, easy to get to and very flat with loads of space. A very easy 15 minute walk to the centre of everything.

En-route from Córdoba to Cabo de Gata for a week on the beach 😎 (finally) and being a four hour journey we decided to break it in two after reading some great reviews on Park4night for here. It is in the mountains and has a great free aire, elevated above the edge of the village with great views. Facilities include grey/black water disposal, bins, fresh water and picnic tables. Plenty of space, tarmac’d and reasonably flat. (Apparently it is all very new).

Was going to leave Cordoba tomorrow morning but it was sooooooooooooo hot there 🥵 we left this afternoon and will have two nights here instead of one (at least 10 degrees cooler)!

A very small, multi-level, scenic village with a small castle on a (very) steep hill at the back. Consequently it does not have much here although it does have a bar, a cafe, a small grocers, a cheese shop and most importantly a bakers 🥖🥐🥯

Todays stop is Cabo de Gata (near Almeria)
After 6 weeks of travelling with very short stopovers we have decided to stay in one place for a whole week!

Stopped at the Carrefour Hypermarket in Almeria en-route for much needed provisions, BE AWARE, practically their entire car park has a height limit (2.4m I think it was) so not great for motorhomes. We managed to park nearby on the street.
Big sign saying it is prohibited take their trolleys out of the car park, which we obviously ignored (well what do they expect)🤷

This is a big campsite with loads of facilities including a pool so we don’t intend doing much at all for a while (been averaging 12,000 steps a day up until now) 🥵🥵
Apparently it is full during winter season but currently only about 6-10 pitches in use.

What a FABULOUS PLACE! Much as we enjoyed Cabo de Gata this is exactly what we have been looking for and wish we had come sooner.

Loads of roomy parking (no services other than bins) overlooking TWO beaches with gloriously golden soft sand, with two beach bar/restaurants.

One beach is huge with rather strong incoming waves, the other is small and perfectly sheltered so the sea is shallow and like a mill pond teeming with fish. Idyllic 👍👍👍👍

We only intended this as a one night stopover en-route to Valencia but will stay for longer

At the port now and literally right in front of the gate (arrived at 5.55pm).

Absolutely great place to eat: Hot Spot Burger and Grill. 3-4 minutes walk away, fantastic burger choices, all home made, chicken strips, halloumi fries, specialty fries and more.
Not much to look at from the outside and on the edge of the industrial area, but we didn’t go there for the scenery!
Google it for the menu, see TripAdvisor for the reviews.

Today’s stop is Chateau Larcher, less than an hours drive from Lac St Cyr. Only two other motor homes on the aire . Great value at 7e for spacious pitch with ehu.

Next to a sports field with toilets available but a bit grim; three cubicles, one with no toilet in it, the other two tatty and no toilet seats. A single shower in one of the cubicles.
They are okay but we will use our own.

Five minute walk into the centre and had a great 3 course lunch for two with 2 beers and 1 wine for £32 👍
no seat was the norm for france they are just introducing them
