Not going to be a good year after all then

You obviously didn't watch the full briefing given by Boris, the CSO and CMO.

They are not targetting a 60% infection rate. They are targetting minimising the impact on the NHS and deaths. Herd immunity is part of the planning but not the goal. Stating otherwise is disingenuous.
I've provided a link and a screenshot

If you still dont believe your eyes I cant help that

But regardless the government do want 60% of the population to contract the virus it's there in black and white

I have just quoted a direct post from one of the team advising the government. Along with a link to it.

You quoted a screen shot of a misrepresentation by the independent newspaper. This is like what you are doing a misrepresentation of what is the goal.

Show me a video of either the CMO or the CSO or Boris stating that the goal is to get 60% of the population infected?

Wrong
The decisions individuals take will have far more bearing on whether they survive this virus
Unfortunately many individuals are either incapable or just dont care enough to do what's required

Theres British motorhomers on Facebook ignoring Spain's lockdown and trying to leave spanish towns that have locked down

And folk here stating they would ignore any lockdown also

No I posted a link showing the speech from the chief health advisor

Google it and you will find every newspaper reporting exactly the same quote taken from the same video

No it isn't. But a few on here can and do make anything political when they want to. Very boring and off-putting for the majority of us to have their political opinions spouted on threads which are not about politics.

Agree, mostly the remoaners, Boris gave the Country what it asked for in 2016, against the sulky remoaners wishes, ergo Boris can now not do anything right. The following sums it up quite nicely I think.

"A stampede away from facts and truth towards biases and predjudices embeded by years of Brexit trench-warfare"

Agree
But Dan Hodges switches sides more than a WW2 Italian tank commander, an ex Milliband supporter and Milliband villifier

Nobody knows how the US system works, Michael Bloomberg apparently spent $100m to achieve nothing. He was 5th in 6 horse race .

The local ' parties' decide who the masses get to choose between, by the time it gets to the last 2, so much corruption and dirty dealings have gone on, that its like having to choose between a punch in the face or a kick in the balls.

Nobody with an ounce of sense, or honesty will get within a million miles of getting in.

Anything but the kick in the balls. Not never the kick in the balls.

Anyone over the age of 70 it at high risk of becoming seriously ill and requiring a ventilator. The NHS hasn’t got the capacity to manage a huge influx of sick people at the same time. The over 70s are being asked to self isolate, for the benefit of the greater community, to stop the NHS imploding.
Also, over 70's will be down the pecking order if there is a shortage. If there is one ventilator left, and there are two people requiring it, one 72 and one 55, the 55 year old will get it, it is as simple as that.

This is what is happening in Italy according to reports, I personally think they will not run out of ventilators as they will ramp up production by using other companies to switch production. I do hope I am not wrong.

Jeez... You keep posting screen shots of papers reporting what they think Vallance meant. NOT what he actually said. Post a link to the video where he actually says.
"It is the governments aim to get 60% of the population infected"

Here is the video of the interview.

Just been told by my company i work par time for that i can no longer work for them because i am in the high risk category.
On a lighter note the local undertaker is looking for more staff

Yes I must need my ears tested because I swear he says " we need 60% of people to contract this disease to gain herd immunity "

Which is exactly what i said above ?‍♂️

Boris will fix it all after all our scientists are mich better than the rest of the worlds lol

P.s...there will be no money left for those new nurses and police he promised.....and the nhs might have to be sold after all as no one could predict the Coronavirus

9 years of forcing hardship on the poor and elderly yet folk think he has their best interests at heart now lol

Gonna save a fortune in pensions next year
Do not worry the social costs of all the old biddies in care and bed blockers will be wiped out and plenty of spare capacity after that. Plus all the 70 + who starved to death in their homes from not being seen for 4 months. That will make EVERYTHING a lot easier. Of course after paying the fines for going out will make me so poor that I could not afford to do anything anyway, so might just have to join them after all. PS more people have died in road accidents that the total of the 'virus' victims put together..

WHEN lots of over 70s get locked away in isolation they will still need to be checked ,bear in mind when isolated over 70s die and it is likely some will ,so will there pets left with nobody to feed them. This may turn into a very sad affair .

He said "60% is the sort of figure you need to get herd immunity." At no point did he say it is the governments goal to get 60% of the population infected.
He also said.
"We think this virus is likely to be one that comes back year on year and become like a seasonal virus, and communities will become immune to it and that is going to be an important part of controlling this longer term."

The goverment wants to slow the spread enough to reduce the peak and spread the total infections over a period of time. This is their primary goal and is extremely clear if you watch the briefings in full.
Herd immunity is a consideration for the long term strategic view but is not part of the short term planning.

Which is exactly what i said above ?‍♂️
Not it's not. You said the government wants 60% of the population to get the virus. Implying this was a primary goal.
its been reported the government want 60% of the population to get the virus in order to create a herd immunity

There is a difference between saying "60% is the sort of figure you need to get herd immunity." which is stating a scientific fact and saying "The government wants 60% of people to be infected" which which would be strategic decision if it was made.

Except Clinton got a few million more votes than Trump. She won the Popular Vote but lost the election because of the way the US system operates.

Ours is no better though! :)

'the popular vote' .. Fortunately the system stops the densely populated 'haves' from over riding the sticksville 'have nots', which is pretty much what we have here . As it should be.

Northernraider I will refer you to this post I made.

This is from one of the people on the team making the recommendations to government and is involved in the modelling.

So when you NEED something you strive to achieve it whereas when you want something it's just a desire

So if you NEED 60% to get infected which you've just stated.

What's the best way to do that ?

Do nothing .....which is what they are doing and allowing it to spread like wildfire

I have no objection to being asked to self isolate. Ie keep away from other people. It is a very good idea. I am currently in Spain and am fairly well isolated. I did go out this morning to get food and will continue to do so as the magic carpets aren't working and I am not prepared to starve. Social interaction has been reduced radically. No going out except for a very limited range of essential activities (plus walking the dog and going to the hairdressers???)

However when back in the UK I could greatly reduce my social interaction with others without being totally isolated. Eg go out for a drive with a flask of coffee and a few sandwiches. Such activities would not put myself or others at any additional risk.

I do not find the idea of total isolation unacceptable but for many the support network will not be in place.

Malcolm Bolt hi Malcolm good to hear you and Cathryn are ok for now in Spain. Much our thoughts if we get in the van and take ourselves to some really quiet places we know, we have all our own facilities food etc on board but not that far from home should help us from getting stir crazy. Tell Cathryn Ed will get the dates in, stay safe. x

According to a good friend that resides in Italy, China has provided an extra 100 ventilators to Italy, after Italy responded to the needs of China when the outbreak was first revealed.
