Not going to be a good year after all then

Agree, I suggest many 70 year olds will say "stuff qurenteen, I'll live my life and take my chances". Especially the fit and healthy ones.

They obviously won't be complaining when they come down with the Virus then will they????

Only 36% of the uk trust boris

Its amazing considering he just won an election ain't it lol

But that wasn't the question was it , the question was ' do you trust Boris more than the other tw@t' which is why he won.

Its like Democrats moaning about Trump, when its their fault that he is in , because they rigged their own vote to put him up against Hillary Clinton. I cant think of anyone alive ( or even dead ) that could lose to her.

In the uk I think it's more to do with the first passed the post voting system.

No idea how the us system works ....it seems to be more about wealth of candidates over there

In a country that size I cant believe trump or the wife of an ex president was the only 2 options available.

Just to be a devils a advocate is this germ warfare gone wrong ?
Theres folk claiming that

I've just read an actually very convincing article claiming its caused by the 5g rollout

It's amazing how convincing it actually sounds lol

Nobody knows how the US system works, Michael Bloomberg apparently spent $100m to achieve nothing. He was 5th in 6 horse race .

The local ' parties' decide who the masses get to choose between, by the time it gets to the last 2, so much corruption and dirty dealings have gone on, that its like having to choose between a punch in the face or a kick in the balls.

Nobody with an ounce of sense, or honesty will get within a million miles of getting in.

I believe it is similar to the swiss system whereby you can have the minority of the population voting for you but as long as in the states/regions/cantons you achieve a majority = you win.

Probably. Unless you believe the snake had a virus ,got eaten by a bat ( giant one obviously) who then had the misfortune to be caught & made into soup & eaten by someone which then crossed species/mutated int o this virus.

It really is such a shame that ‘northern raider‘ was so rude.
you only have to look at the demographics to see that the older you are then the more likely you are to be vulnerable to this virus.
self isolating for a month isn’t a bad idea,
Take your motorhome with you and stay in all of those out of the way places that you’ve always wanted to visit.
A month in my moto, sheer bliss.
?????

How about keeping politics out of this.
We all have our own ideas but Covid 19 is apolitical. It really really doesn’t care who it uses as a host.
Come on guys and gals let’s keep this light.

Rude where?

If the uk goes on lockdown like is happening in Spain etc just now you wont be taking your motorhome anywhere

I've a friend in spain and one in greece at the minute....both have been told they arent allowed to move for 15 days ....might be extended

UK hasn't made that decision yet...they are waiting till 60% of the population gets infected.

Meanwhile folk are being reckless ,I delivered meals to countless amounts of elderly last night and have done every night for weeks ....some are in sheltered housing etc .

I'm concerned for their health as I could be carrying and passing on the virus

That's not being rude that's realising the seriousness of a situation that the uk government seems reluctant to follow other governments on

Why?

Because its costly.....so putting money before people

Thete is nothing more political right now than covid19

Anyone over the age of 70 it at high risk of becoming seriously ill and requiring a ventilator. The NHS hasn’t got the capacity to manage a huge influx of sick people at the same time. The over 70s are being asked to self isolate, for the benefit of the greater community, to stop the NHS imploding.

Exactly an nhs already stretched to capacity and underfunded and understaffed ....and few are taking it seriously and already stating they won't self isolate

Why spread mistruths like that. They are NOT waiting for 60% of the population to get infected. That is either a gross misunderstanding of the situation or an attempt to smear the government.

You obviously didn't watch the government statement then ....its been reported the government want 60% of the population to get the virus in order to create a herd immunity ....as they believe this won't be a one of it will return year after year

The problem is the WHO dont agree and think the uk is gambling with lives

No, that isn’t what they said. They have said that will probably be the end point but their policy is aimed at slowing down the rate of infection.

You obviously didn't watch the full briefing given by Boris, the CSO and CMO.

They are not targetting a 60% infection rate. They are targetting minimising the impact on the NHS and deaths. Herd immunity is part of the planning but not the goal. Stating otherwise is disingenuous.

Interesting Thread. WELL worth reading for those who think the government is aiming for herd immunity.

I am deeply uncomfortable with the message that UK is actively pursuing ‘herd immunity’ as the main COVID-19 strategy. Our group’s scenario modelling has focused on reducing two main things: peak healthcare demand and deaths...

For me, herd immunity has never been the outright aim, it’s been a tragic consequence of having a virus that - based on current evidence - is unlikely to be fully controllable in long term in the UK.

Sadly, even large-scale changes (like those other European countries are making, and we may very soon) may not control COVID for long. We must flatten the curve as much as possible, but there could still be many infections (and hence immunity).

The communication about COVID science has generally been clear in the UK, but talk of ‘herd immunity as the aim’ is totally wide of the mark. Having large numbers infected isn’t the aim here, even if it may be the outcome.

A lot of modellers around the world are working flat out to find best way to minimise impact on population and healthcare. A side effect may end up being herd immunity, but this is merely a consequence of a very tough option - albeit one that may help prevent another outbreak

Clearly we cannot finely tune the path of this outbreak. The best we can do is identify actions that have highest chance of effectively and sustainably reducing impact on the population and burden on NHS.

To be clear: we have to reduce impact on UK as much as we can. But we are in this for the long term. A couple of weeks of closed schools and cancelled events won’t solve this - we will have to fundamentally change our lifestyles.

Given the seriousness of the situation, we are obviously working to get our latest modelling analysis out in the public domain as soon as we can.
