Nationwide Flex Plus - Breakdown Cover - Be Aware !

Reading a lot of these posts about AA and RAC it seems they are like any insurance company nowadays they will do their upmost to wriggly out of liability.

I'm surprised so many people still go with them. (Talking generally not motorhome specific). If ou go with the likes of Green flag, Gem, Autoaid and many others it costs about 25 % or more of the AA cost and you will be looked after my a local recovery company. They get paid by the breakdown company so are less likely to try and wriggle out of it. On top of that you usually get personal cover so it's for any vehicle you drive, and not just your own. Always had excellent service from these companies over the last 20 or so years I have used them.

I've just been comparing Nationwide's policy using the AA to the one provided by my insurer (not taken it out yet) which is provided by the RAC, there's not a lot of difference in them except this which, if stuck at the bottom of Spain and having to drive back to your home in the UK could be an issue:

AA: Hire car paid for but only 2 days max

RAC: Hire car paid for but up to 14 days max

Are you sure that's not car hire AFTER 2 days??

I believe quite a few will only recover inside the E.U. and not repatriate to the UK. If it can be repaired in the E.U. why would they go to all the trouble and expense of bringing it back to the UK for work that can be done in the country the vehicle has failed in.
When you say 'IF it can be repaired in the E.U' surely any repair can be carried out in the EU, but, at what cost, how long will the said repair take, it could be weeks if they have to obtain certain parts, the vehicles' owners may not be in a position to pay for such repairs for whatever reason, so when they say they will repatriate a vehicle that can't be repaired, what exactly does 'cant be repaired mean exactly...... just askin.

I don't know ? You would need to discuss with the relevant recovery people to get that sort of answer. However. simple logic dictates that a motorhome is not going to be returned to the UK from say Spain to replace a head gasket when this can easily be done in Spain. It is my understanding from many years as a Fun member and owning a motorhome that for a motorhome to be recovered to the UK, specific circumstances will be in play, i.e. dead or incapacitated driver and even then additional costs may be involved.
