My Worst Fear - We've Broken Down :(

I can see all the posts… I must be a good boy….😎

HKF Learn how to play the Uke on Fun, then you’ll know what sarcastic and rude is!

Happily, the other side of that is that we are so cool and laid back we let the comments go right over our heads, don’t we Janine!

No idea what your first sentence even means and my health is more important to me than trying to cope with comments I don't need. Every minute I spend learning how to cope with other people's nastiness is another minute of my life wasted. It's far better to ignore them altogether. I can't do anything about my illness but, fortunately, I can do something about how other people affect me :)

I think I might have opened myself up to a very rude reply or two, I think Jimbohorlicks must be asleep!
I was driving home ,not asleep at the wheel btw, but now intrigued enough to ask, why? when you mentioned "nuts" did you think of me? Or was it a case of "Mirror mirror on the wall etc etc.?
  :h:

I have been known to stand outside my van with a screwdriver in hand waiting for a knight in shining army to offer their help.

Nothing wrong with that, in my opinion 😉
That's using one of your skills Nothing wrong with that.

Going back to the OP's problem there is a certain vintage of housings produced and fitted to the Peugeot, Renault, and Fiat that would not accept aftermarket filters and seals. If they were fitted, regardless of how well and how skilfully, they would eventually fail and leak. The only way to be certain of it being okay was to use original equipment spares. I had an 18 mouth running battle with Fiat over this and even involved DVSA (or whatever they are now). Fiat would never acknowledge the problem but quietly, in the background they changes the design. If you are unlucky enough to have an original just never allow your garage to use an aftermarket filter and seal.

Thais was the report I made to DVSA at the time:

There were two incidents only two days apart. In the first I had driven about 200 miles. On arrival at my destination I noticed a very strong smell of diesel and found a heavy pressurised fuel leak from the fuel filter housing. The leak stopped when the engine was shut down. A rescue service mechanic attended and tightened the filter top and pipe work. This cured the problem until two days later and after another 180 miles when it recurred. This time I found the problem when I stopped on a fuel station forecourt to buy fuel. The forecourt was closed temporarily because of the risk of fire. Being close to a garage the vehicle was recovered to them. The fuel filter unit was removed serviced and refitted. To-date the problem has not recurred, but very few miles have been covered since and I am not convinced the problem will not repeat.

This was the DVSA conclusion:

This seems to be a known problem that affects the diesel fuel filter housings used on these vehicles from about 2002 until about 2012.

To the best of my knowledge DVSA did not push Fiat / UFI to correct the problem.

Really sorry if I didn’t make myself clear - it was meant as a joke! Janine and I have suffered sarcastic (bordering on rude) comments on Fun for being uke players, was all I meant.

Really didn’t mean to offend you, but I apologise if I did.

Ah, I see. It's OK :) It's a pity that some people think sarcasm is a great way to communicate. OK, it's fine with people you know well but not with people you don't. Anyway, no probs and nothing wrong with a bit of George Formby!!! :) xx

My funster friend Aly1 is wondering what she has done to offend the OP 😢 as she is missing a lot of the posts!!

It’s dreadful, I thought I was escaping the ukuleles at Highlands End this weekend but my cousin Bev is here and she’s just as obsessed! She’s nothing to do with Fun as she has a caravan. There’s no point trying to kill her as her husband’s a retired police detective and no doubt still has connections.

Try and enjoy it as best you can Carolyn! Hopefully a sunny weekend will make it bearable!

It would seem, nothing, it seems HKF as accidentally pressed the ignore button on some posters without knowing.
Edit, must admit I have done the same sometimes so now look in my ignore thing to see if I have done it again.
Personally I would never ignore anyone, for the simple reason on one post you might not agree with them but on another you agree.
And in this case she was ignoring people who could have helped.

My bestest pal Geraldine doesn't look anything like George Formby, leaning on a lampost, maybe?

That’s probably the case and even if it isn’t then I think it’s a bit unkind to keep giving her grief about it. I know you aren’t I hasten to add. She shouldn’t have to justify herself to anyone. It’s MotorhomeFun, not MotorhomeSpanishInquisition.

I just want to know the full story. I’m guessing it was a diesel filter? Did they sort it themselves or did the breakdown people come out? Was it fixed at the roadside or did they get towed?

Diesel filter, they were towed to a garage and the garage replaced the filter.

HKF, as others have said "this is just one of lifes' little upsets" whether in a motorhome, or not. My wife was all for giving up motorhoming after a tree fell on us parked - up on a campsite in Germany. Although we suffered extensive damage to the van, we were not injured, unfortunately a woman was killed and a young girl was taken to hospital in the same incident; a tornado down the river Main valley.

We have subsequently enjoyed further trips with the occasional little setbacks, nothing that cann't be overcome and for the disasters, hopefully no more, there is always insurance.

Just enjoy the adventures to come.

Robert

This happened to us just before lockdown on the way back from Belgium. It was a bit of a panic at the time but having been recovered twice and fixed(!?) three times it was all sorted. We now look back on it and laugh at the pictures of our MH on the back of a recovery truck…it’s just one of our many MH anecdotes now.

Oh, and it was a cracked fuel filter.

Take care, you’ll be ok.

We once broke down and blocked the access to the A216 Calais spur. I've got a video somewhere of us being recovered, passing a matrix sign something like "Access Au Calais Port A216 Ferme, Diversion via Calais Ville". I wonder if we annoyed anyone?

You might not be aware that our Geraldine is our very own Uke superstar...
Here's just a small snippet

Actually, I said I had pressed the Ignore button on YOUR post, not 'some'.

No need for the passive-aggressive lecture, either, thanks.
