Motorhome Values post Lockdown

I've got a fear that my white elephant is parked outside something else that's going to be going down in value possibly by a lot more!
The value of your house is irrelevant until you need to sell it, couldn't care less if mine was worthless, no intention of selling .

That absolutely correct, and MH’s are the same, its only when you need to change assets that the value is important and if your house value falls so does the one your looking to buy.

However if your looking to sell and not replace then it’s a different story, if you were planning to sell up and move to a retirement home for instance then it may be that the house and MH would realise less than you planned, but the retirement home prices will not go down.

Or if like me you have money sitting in rental properties the asset value may drop, but the rental income shouldn’t so your income is safe, but if also like me you were planning a step back from your career in the near future and that career was devastated by Covid-19 shutdown you may be just sitting wondering where you’ll be in 12 months time

Sounds like we are in exactly the same situation....

Who's been on holiday for 2 months, most of the people i know are still working, just from home, so when this is over will want a break to get away from home.

Then I hope you have more idea of what to do next than I do.

Been working from home, but it’s almost completely dried up no

I can’t see many going on holiday as the workers companies will say you’ve been on holiday for the last 2 months and your going to work now till Christmas...?
I understand that accrued payed holiday can be taken up to 2 yrs into the future.

Protected by the Working Time directive. Can carry over up to 4 weeks by law. It is going to create problems though.

My van is paid for so money long gone, I do have neighbours who pay £1000s a month to stare at their motorhome on the drive and I really feel for them
I just hope whatever happens at the end of all this that people can carry on with their life whether that means selling or not

I volunteered to work through (others were furloughed) and in return I get an extra half days holiday for every day worked between 24/03-05/05 so in total I can roll 20 days into next two years PLUS the days I’ve accrued through working so that’s 34.5 total plus my annual 26 days plus statutory Bank holidays!! Happy days next year????

It's going to be a very long time before the risk of infection has passed, if ever. I've never been overly concerned before when staying in hotels but now I'd rather holiday, sleep and cook in my own clean m/h than take pot luck in a much occupied hotel; breakfast room, bed and bathroom etc. and no doubt many more will feel the same so I doubt that prices will fall significantly.

If any members can give a DEFINITIVE answer to this, can you advise when I should change my personal pension investments back from cash to shares ?????

All these comments are hypothetical, the only thing that is certain is that Covid 19 virus is here and will always be here. We either hope and wait for a vaccine or we learn to live with it and get on with life otherwise we will be in this position indefinitely. The human race have faced many deadly viruses in history, measles, smallpox to name two that have killed millions over the centuries. A vaccine is our only hope of returning to anything like normal.

Not directly but, Harwich to Hook of Holland then drive across Germany and sail from Kiel to Gothenburg, both with Stenaline operating daily at the moment.
Interesting option for me to get to Germany in late June if France is an issue?

Sweden is fully open for business at the moment and in my sport (drag racing,) we as an organisation have been slated for cancelling a major fia event at tierp in june but we have to think of the whole of europe
I will lose big money on ferries and hotels because I have to cancel whilst they are still open but hey ho

although I take your sentiment for those working from home.

Isn’t Germany closed to non residents for Tourism purposes at the moment

“Entry into Germany for purposes of tourism is strictly prohibited.”

No date set for when this will no longer be the case.

Isn’t Germany closed to non residents for Tourism purposes at the moment and suggested until December 31st ?
But if you were just passing through on your way to Sweden would that be prohibited? Not sure.

I think it would be classed as tourism without another valid explanation of why you were traveling

Obviously quite an early article and says could go on as long as May12th.

Why do they spend £1,000s per month? or even how!

Say £2k per month, that's £24k per year capital repayment, 3 years term a van worth £72k plus whatever deposit you put down. I have no idea what finance companies loan on motor homes in terms of value percentage nor what term of repayment or interest rates, but it is easy to see how someone could easily get to thousands per month.
