Motorcycle Porn.....Readers Rides

A garage once leant me a 748 as a courtesy bike when my ZX9R went in for crash repairs. After 5 miles I took it back. It was the worst bike I'd ever ridden. They swapped it for a GSXR400. That was even worse. A horrid thing.

I asked them to give me a lift home. I used my Mondeo instead.
The 749 is a different animal to the 748....

Variety is the spice of life.....

I once loaned my 999 to a mate for a long weekend trip to Scotland (Applecross). Plan was that we left Derby after work on a Thursday evening travelling on a mostly motorways route to Leyburn. Dinner and overnight stay before starting the trip proper on Friday morning.

After arrival at the B&B, and at dinner, he indicated that he’d struggled with the riding position on the 999 and his back was suffering. The following morning matey appears for breakfast to tell us the 999 had f*cked his back and he wasnt going to be able to continue on the trip! He headed back home while we continued north on our way to Applecross. 😎

Is he young/fit enough to be able to sit on it? 15 years ago no probs but I couldnt go to the end of the road on it now.
He’s three years older than me!....my knees aren’t to good and he has a dodgy hip from playing rugby.

Backs, wrists and core strength still just about manage 😱

It‘s worse when you haven’t been on one for a while.

Had a ride on this today, very interesting, more for the Mr’s comfort as she keeps telling me she struggles to get her leg over  ........the Honda CB500X and the Guzzi,we will see, kinda funky and most unlike a cruiser, punchy motor, odd looking, bit like me!!

It’s my clutch hand (grip strength) that cant cope when I get back on the 999 after a bit of a lay off!

That’s where I cheated with the 848, it’s a wet clutch and i put a higher ratio clutch slave cylinder on it. 😉

Yes, I’m aware of that mod but never got round to it.

Are we seeing a new classification? - Sports cruiser?

Well years ago I had a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 cruiser, didn’t last long, then a Kawasaki Versys 650,cracking little bike.
To me this,a Kawasaki Vulcan 650 S Cafe Racer is a hybrid amalgam of the two.
60 something bhp,fun to ride, seems well put together and different, ugly kinda different, hate the pipe but that’s easily sorted, gets rave reviews, handles surprisingly well and easy for madam on the back, sleeping on it.

It was either that or avoid town and traffic.....
Yes, it’s the towns that do it! 😣

I remember that from when I had a 999, I couldn’t go back one now due to being years older, arthritis of the remaining hip and having spent years on adventure bikes. Plus I don’t think they were designed with the taller more robust chap in mind. ;) :giggle:

Two of just a few
Think the word is, im spoilt. 😎
Diane is looking to do her test soon.
We also have a Aprillia Pegaso 650 that we bought for the camper and there's a KTM stuck in the corner of the garage waiting for some attention.
Boys and our toys 😉

Ha ha. There’s nothing I can do about my tallness so I’ll have to do the best I can to fend off the robustness bit! 🏍

I take it you never rode a Goldstar?

Is that an offer? Yes please! 😉

Ian

As most of you know I do like a tidy well kept bike, well I managed to get my grubby little mits on this at the weekend, only done 12k and is like brand new, two owners who cherished owning it.

Lucky me.

Lovely bike, always fancied a XBR,seemed well put together and nice proportions.
Enjoy your rides.

Found one off my XR250 a bit stuck in Sarn Helen South Wales.
This was near the beginning of a 3 day trip.

It reminds me when I first got my CRF250L. I’d decided a reliable road orientated dual sport to get around the IOM on was the way to go.

Picture the scene....Falcon Honda delivered a brand new fresh out of the crate CRF250L to me on the Wednesday, a friend came and packed it into a van on the Thursday ready for an early hours crossing to the IOM on Friday. I’d never even started it let alone rode it.

Fast forward.....We arrive at Glen Lough camp site, arrange the vans, awnings and event shelter to make base camp, after a kip we’re ready to explore.

It behaved really well on the road as you’d expect, being low powered and very docile, off onto some simple green lanes it coped almost as well considering.

Anyway, Looking for fun I find myself riding in a very deep and tight rocky rut, up to my knees and brushing my boots/pegs on the sides.
Whilst looking for my escape, I spot a large‘ish rock in the rut ahead, no problem I thought....on approach, a blip of the throttle, a touch of clutch and a tug on the bars. Up the front wheel popped!

Only not as high or for as long as I’d of hoped for (or would have achieved on the 2 smoke KTM).

Down it came right on the front face of the rock. The bike stopped dead in its tracks.....the same wasn’t true for me.

I cleared the rut and landed on my back on the grass to the side, after traversing the handle bars. After the thud following my acrobatics, that moment of silence, when I was working out if everything would still move without pain, was broken by the hysterical laughter of my mate who was behind...with a GoPro on a chest plate.

When I realised I was ok, my thoughts turned to my immaculately new CRF, the damage I must have caused and the emergency repairs that would be needed, as I was getting to my feet I turned to see it was stood bolt up right trapped by its pegs on the sides of the rut, exactly where I left it. Engine stopped, not a scratch, scuff or bent lever in sight. Not a single bit of damage.

Obviously the pride fared not so well, when the GoPro footage was shown at every opportunity to anyone, while taking liquid refreshments back at the camp site.
