Motorcycle Porn.....Readers Rides

A couple of years ago ther was a knock at the door, an old guy asked could he leave his motorbike at our house as it had broken down. He declined an offer of me transporting him and his bike, his daughter arrived picked him up, he came back next day with atrailer to collect it.
He gave me a thank you card and a bottle of wine! The BSA was on its first trip out after repairs from a crash he had when a car pulled out on him.
It was his pride and joy, he bought it NEW!!View attachment 388423
Looks like an M21 ( 600 side valve )
I had one with a chair bolted to it back around 1967/68

Now for something completely different.

Trouble with most of those older trail bikes is the prices people want for them!

It's no trouble if you're selling them ?

But over the last few years classic bike prices have gone through the roof - I think they have peaked for now, not sure what will happen due to the repercussions of CV-19

This was my first Wing at 1 week old. I'd run it in the previous week and then had it serviced on our way up to Scotland. There was a barrier across the road because of the bad weather. It was sheet ice under the snow. One of the guys on a BeeEm was sat on his bike and it just slid from under him.

It doesn't always go according to plan. The car I ran into had lost control coming down the hill and crossed on to my side and stopped straight in front of me. A car following us swerved to miss us and collided head on with another car coming down the hill. The AA European cover took care of everything but it took 2 years to sort out. Luckily I had the presence of mind to photograph it.

Wings always look bigger when they are on their side don’t they.View attachment 388702This was my first, bought it from Eddy Grimstead in East Ham,saw it in the crate and collected it a week later, first of five.
They look even bigger balanced on their front wheel. ?

My brother a lifelong biker passed away early this year (87 and still riding then) though a can am Spyder in his last couple of years.
Anyway we had a small wake gathering at GT motorcycles and in there on display ....

Been thinking that prices have peaked for years but they keep climbing.
Trouble is investors have clicked on the prices and been buying up 70s & 80s cars and bikes to just stash away, better than money in the bank.
We have a fair few storage facilities around me and talking to a bloke who works at one, some people drop a car or bike off and they might not see them for 3-4 years?
Shame as it’s priced a load of genuine enthusiast out of the market...

Eddy Grimstead - that brings back memories of my Honda CD175 I purchased from them many, many years ago

The classic bike market is also very fickle

My BMW 1150GS on a ride down to The Gambia in Jan 2010, left in bloody freezing conditions with snow/sub-zero down to Spanish border region and ended in 30+ degrees in full bike gear. Fantastic trip and one of those life moments I will look back on when I am too knackered to do anything 'stupid' anymore:giggle:. Did not have a motorhome at the time and was amazed to see a mass gathering in the Moroccan desert of them, mostly European and given the available space all packed together! Have since been on aires and understand that its not a motorhome holiday unless you park as close as humanly possible to the next van.
