Rally Mosel rolling meet 2020.

Just checked the price on CMC website for Hull to Rotterdam and it's coming in under £410 return so and £500 for Zeebrugge, Rotterdam would make sense at that price and not to far to travel on other side if just doing Mossel.

I'm tempted to book so think I'll phone the CMC and see what happens if travel is suspended again.

With a 13 metre rig I unfortunately have little choice only Dover/Dunkirk, but I can usually do Reil from Dunkirk in around 5 hours, so catching a late night ferry puts me in Reil around lunchtime just in time for my aperitif.

Totally understand when you have something that size, to us it's just a nice way to start and finish our holiday.

If I had more time I'd do Dover all the time but when time is limited then a few extra pounds doesn't matter to much, it probably works out about £10-£12 per day to our holiday so i'll just put Lorraine on a diet

Ok you can tell I'm bored  as I haven't got my new van yet this is only a rough estimate.

I've checked ET prices for going out on the Saturday morning around 2am and returning on the Sunday at 10am, price comes to £207 and i'd have to drive 500 miles further if going to Reil from Dumfries.

I've roughly worked it our that the difference in price would be £122 so for me thats a no brainer as I'd save a days driving and only works out at just over £8 a day so Lorraine can have a snack

Ok I'll find something else to do and not bore you further :rofl:

Snowbird.
There is a possibility Dave, that we might be up for 2/3 weeks in September, pending restrictions (if any) at the time, so may well pop in to Reil for a couple of days. :)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)

With luck we should be able to squeeze in a wine tasting or two Jock.

Hi there, Any idea when it will be ok to travel to Riel, is tunnel and ferry ports open ?..thanks Dave

Am I right in thinking this is a rally that does not require advance booking and one can just turn up unannounced ? If we do Germany this September we would probably turn up for a few days.

That’s how I see it.

Phil, I think you are correct. But my experience of the Aires in the Moselle in September is that they do get full quite early in the day. So best to arrive by lunch to be sure.

No advance booking required, just rock up, get the beer out and chill. Many tour up and down the Mosel from one stellplatz to another but its nice to meet up with other funsters occasionally. The stellplatz at Reil is large and can take the largest outfit so is ideal as a stopping place to meet other funsters. This will be the third year of the Mosel rolling meet and each year we are asked if we will be doing it next year by those that turn up. Unfortunately due to the Covid virus we are on a late start this year and sadly the little mobile bar will not be on site, so no arranged BBQs this year, but am sure we will manage somehow.

Thank you for your reply. We have visited the Mosel before and enjoyed it very much. We want to explore the romantic valley and spend some time in the Black Forest and this rally fits in perfectly with my plans. Fingers crossed the Covid risk is contained enough for us to make this venture. Thanks again for your input. Keep Safe.

Finally made the decision and booked our crossing for September, for some reason the price had dropped when I checked tonight. We've got a return from Hull to Rotterdam for just under £400 which isn't bad in my opinion.

No bar you say ! Where on gods green earth will we find liquid refreshment in a sleepy little village in the Mosel valley.;)

Keep posting, folks. We enjoyed the Mosel run two years ago and are contemplating same again this year, Covid willing.

No worries on that score. I found a great little winery that does some superb wine tasting sessions.

Last time we were in Germany we used the Hardwick Hook of Holland ferry. Cheaper than Hull Rotterdam or Hull Zeebruge. Missed out the M25 death trap cum car park. From our part of Lincolnshire it was better to go down to the A14 beyond the Cambridge A1 road works.
Being a night crossing we had tea on the way down. The cabin we had included a mini bar.

I have used the port of Dover for nigh on 50 years, so its more a force of habit that I use Dover since retirement from the road haulage business. One thing about the port of Dover that I do not miss is standing on those bloody steps on a wet, windy night getting T forms stamped. Old Euro drivers will know what I mean.

We are hoping set off last week in August. Have not decided on a crossing, I have DHFS voucher plus enough Tesco points for the tunnel. Harwich / Hook appeals but that is Stena Line, perhaps I should keep my vouchers until our winter trip.

As I said earlier we have used Stena Line in the past. Nice cabins, staff pleasant and helpful. Cheaper than the Hull crossings and no M25.
Docking after breakfast gave us a good head start through to Germany. We would use them again.

Timings aren’t great if coming from Scotland after work on. Friday😂
