Morocco 23

Don't know what that is.
Ok clicked on the b2b in your post it says it charges your leisure batteries when you are driving from the vehicle alternator, well when I look through the victron app at my batteries status with the engine running it say capacity infinity the same as when on hookup so I presume that means the alternator is sending charge to them but honestly not sure.

We never had any issues with electric supply. Certainly enough for a kettle like yours, small microwave, fridge, 1000 w heater ( not all at same time!)
Some of the electric connections are a bit primative but worked even on the most remote sites.
As others have said the voltage fluctuates a lot and loads of people have voltage regulators .

Our motorhome is old and we had no problems but the newer ones had fridge problems because of it.

We haven't come across anyone filling an underslung tank

The later 3 way fridges are very sensitive to voltage, you will have them plugged in and here the gas igniters clicking every few seconds, can't be good for them.

Don't have a lot of real estate on my roof for another panel, don't know if they've managed to design panels with higher wattages at the same size of my 100w one but I'm away at the moment I'll certainly be checking it out when I get back.
We managed all our trips with one 100w panel - only fitted the second earlier this year because we were planning to do more UK touring.

But we have had a B2B almost as long as we've had the van 'cos we rarely stay for more than a few days anywhere - then we looked for hookup but not now hopefully.

For what its worth, we did all our trips without a B2B charger and mostly wilding, relying on Maroc gas and a 1 x 125 W solar panel and two 110 Ah lead acid leisure batteries without any issues what-so-ever. On our last trip while on a camp site in Sidi-Ifni we had issues with our fridge cutting out due to dodgy lecce but were fine once we switched over to gas. We also purchased a stand alone 120 W suitcase solar panel https://www.photonicuniverse.com/en/ which I put up in the morning and connected directly to our leisure batteries and as a result our batteries never fell below 80 %.. I now have it permanently mounted on the roof next to the other one. Lots and lots of sun in Marocco.

Anybody crossed within the last couple of weeks? Would you mind letting us know the ferry prices now? Also any changes to procedures?
Facebook seems to indicate there area few Funsters in Morocco already.
We crossed 10 days ago ! Open return from Carlos €330 tangier med ! €200 insurance at the Port, diesel 160d

Also, I must share my story about insurance. After much trial & error we've insured with LV (part of Allianz these days) for an incredible £130! Now that's because we have our family car (9 yo Mini) already insured with them so this is an additional vehicle added to the same policy.
Fully comp EU cover. The green card for Maroc is fully comp cover & cost an extra £42, most of which is their admin fee. That's for mid Jan to end of March. Very happy!

All I can say is the Gaslow hose will not fit that gas bottle but it does fit Maroc large (15kg) bottles.

Yup, incredible but true. I got chatting to the call handler at Saga who said in 8 years of selling motor insurance she can't fathom the logic to the pricing. Saga quoted me £650 (£150 voluntary excess) & £430 (£750 v. excess)

Can you advise how I'd use that hose in my setup, assuming I leave the front bottle at home & use that space for the local bottle

I can confirm this is correct as this is what I used on my last three visits. I connected the filter to the Maroc bottle and the Gaslow hose directly to the filter and then the Gaslow external filler point.
My filter looks the same as this but has two straight legs and not one L shaped as shown here. (It was purchased several years ago )

Like me, you have manual shut off valves on your cylinders which is perfect for Marocco. Fill up both bottles just before crossing and close one valve/bottle. Purchase your Gaslow hose before leaving UK and filter if you want added protection. Just before your bottle runs out connect the Marroc bottle to your filler point with the Gaslow hose (and filter) and open the maroc bottle. This will equalise with the open bottle in your locker and feed through to your hab services. Replace the Maroc bottle when it runs out ( I got one month from the large red Butane bottles.) A few weeks or so before leaving Maroc and/or when your Red Maroc bottle runs out. Discard the red bottle and open your remaining Gaslow bottle, remove your Gaslow hose and filter. Job done.

The last time I crossed it took about 15 minutes. 14 minutes in the que and 1Minute to check paperwork and passport including stamp, if required. It has probably changed a little by now but the process will more or less be the same. You can prepare a sandwich before hand if it's a longer que.

I’ve been asked to post this here. I have copied it from The Motoroamers (Karen and Myles)

Big News! Morocco Insurance Alert - a game changer!

Calling all Morocco lovers! Up until now we have all been frustrated that the only cover we can get for our vehicles is the 3rd Party option at the Moroccan border.

Well call me persistent - I decided to give it one more push. I spoke to BIBA (British Insurance Broker Association) and asked their advice about anyone out there offering a temporary cover. They put me in touch with Sterling (formerly HIC) who seem to offer a range of bespoke products not offered by the other big players. After a week of to'ing and fro'ing yesterday I got a quote that had come back from the underwriters offering us a comprehensive policy for either two or three months. Yes you read it right COMPREHENSIVE!

A little dubious I spoke to them again today to be sure that the paperwork was right and they have confirmed that Morocco is covered under this policy offered by Trinity Insurance. They will send a Green Card to that effect. The only thing not covered is the windscreen. Now it's not cheap! For two months we have been quoted £757.86 and for three £934.82. Although it is comprehensive and could make a huge difference to those who want to extend their winter and Schengen Shuffle travel.

I hope this might be useful for some of you out there. If you are interested then give Sterling a call on 0344 381 9990.

Hope it helps you and any other travellers

Carol

It’s not cheap!

You're right, it's not cheap. We appreciate why but much as we love Morocco we wouldn't even consider paying that.
Especially as Saga give us 12m cover including fully comp for Maroc at less than half that, plus a free Green Card.
But well done for making the effort, no doubt some may take advantage.

If of interest, I’ve just popped in to Carlos’ and been quoted €330 return. The staff weren’t sure whether the €10 discount for Funsters would still be valid in January, when we plan to go over.

As an aside, we have asked Saga to cover us from January 17th so if anyone else is planning to sail on that day or thereabouts it would be nice to ship together. (Although I’ve been to Morocco quite a few times, I’ve never been in a motorhome so if we could travel with an experienced Morocco traveller for the first day it would set SWMBO’s mind at rest.)
Thanks
Eric

Thanks for all your input folks but I'm still confused about Maroc lpg cylinders. Some say it's the same as the Calor, like this pic, but that takes a male 'pigtail'. now others say I need this: https://www.gaslowdirect.com/product/gaslow-local-gas-cylinder-connection-hose/ which is offering a female connection to male on the bottle. Can anyone clarify this?
Hi
The gaslow tube fits marac bottle exactly. Used it a couple of times.
Just needed a spanner to connect. Then put in garage till next stop.
Gave the bottle at the last stop in maroc before ferry home.

Hi can anyone recommend a campsite not too far from Tanger med for a first time solo visiter to Morocco, just until I can figure out how best to explore the country eg clockwise or anticlockwise circuit or straight down the coast? TIA.

Have you looked on P4N,
I found quite a few places to stop On the site

There's two in Asilah, which is a very easy hours drive from Tangier Med. Camping Assad's and Camping Echrigui which are next to each other and 150 yds from the Maroc Telecom shop.
There's also guardian parking just round the corner.

It's a ten minute walk into the very nice town and a good introduction into what to expect!

Asilah seems to be the traditional first stop for Funsters. As said it's an easy hour straight down the motorway, top up with (relatively) cheap fuel within 25km of the ferry, then get your wifi sorted at the Maroc Telecom shop just along from the campsites. Last time we were there the guardian parking was only a few dirhams less than the campsites with pretty well no facilities.

Can anyone tell me about the availability of dog food? At home we feed him raw, but in the van we usually use those 400g plastic cartons of food, as it saves carrying two bowls (and/or washing up). But he's a greedy pig of a dog and I suspect would be fine on kibble if it's available? I know pet dogs aren't super common in a Muslim country.

Looks a handsome chap.
We tried our dog on a type of wet food diet in a kibble.
if you search wolf dried kibble you get hits.

As long as he's not brand-fussy there's plenty of choice but you're likely to need one of the larger supermarket chains in the bigger towns. Cannot recall seeing dog food in the smaller supermarkets, although raw meat can be found everywhere........................................!

Jays2 - I found a few, which is the one you’re recommending?

We tried the wolfworthy which she liked.
