Morocco 2020

You be lucky if you can get past Calais this in 2021. Green cards will be non existent if this years shenanigans have been anything to go by. Or perhaps you have an Irish passport!
It will be fine Ken. If UK passport holders are restricted to 90 in 180 in the same way that other non E.U. visitors are (and UK will not be treated any differently than other non E.U visitors), then Morocco will become even more popular. Over winter for 3 months in Moroc then spend under 90 days swanning around Spain/ Portugal/France. Perfect! everybody will be happy.

Still a bit early IMO but you have made a good start by reading previous threads on Morocco and other members will be along soon to add to your post. We now have many seasoned travellers to Morocco and many of them will gladly steer you in the right direction and assist you with your first crossing and advise you where to go , local customs etc., etc., We are not going this winter as we are planning to visit Greece next Spring but already looking forward to returning again in the future. If your A Class has a Fiat engine you may want to consider getting a service done by Fiat at Agadir and save a shed load of money using proper Fiat trained mechanics and genuine parts !
As an aside, I have produced an article for Jim which is going into the October magazine and Jim has said he will release the article to members after the magazine is published. It should be of great help to first time visitors to Morocco as it contains information on the entry procedures (produced by TerryL ) and I have produced pictures of recommended places to visit with some simple route maps.
You, Sir, should take a Bow,,, (along with all the other helpful folk on this site)
I always used to tell my customers that help and advice over the phone (with Electrical and Plumbing problems) was free,,, I never expected to be repaid in kind?!!! ????

Thanks Ken, just catching up on this thread and now see Simon's post. at 120 Mad it needs to be the dogs B. Though is saying that campsite prices have been increasing every year and 100 Mad is becoming more and more common. Some nice campsites too.
Hot showers, clean toilets, large pool area, clubhouse, restaurant, launderette, Motorhome cleaning station, water and electric 32amp  on pitch, boutique shops (not quite finished) large aqua park opposite (surrounded by neat apartments) with excellent food, gardeners, pool attendants, visiting masseuse, (cheap rates for small people my little pixi) and a goblin teasmaid on each pitch, ok I fibbed about the last two, short walk to beach, clean tiled promenade, street lighting. All mod cons, they have clearly spent a lot of money making this a holiday destination Phil.

Gents! Anyone going down as far as Sidi Ifni ? There are 4 campsites there (Feb2019). If any of you get down there could you check them out for me please. I'm considering staying on one of these for around 6 weeks in Jan 2021 and need them scoped out ! I quite fancy the municipal one at the top of the town otherwise it will be between the two next to each other across from Camping Barco.
Heading that way, will take a look, haven’t got my scope with me though, the old eyes will have to do me old fudgepacker ;)

If your happy, scrumptious nuts! I'm happy. :clap2: Bit weird that, you knowing masseuse rates and only just arrived.???

Well we liked Moulay Bousselham.

It reminds me of the Camping in the Forest sites of the CCClub. ( Except about £25 a night cheaper)

From Asilah it was 48 MAD on the toll and the site was easy to get to/find off the motorway.

The town's night club has been trashed though

At last, got my first chicken shawarma of this visit

Just a quick note to thank our little group for their company and wish them well on their travels. Keep letting us know where you are.

We're now at Dar Bouazza, Camping International Oasis (it's on Campercontact), for a couple of nights. It's a bit (lot!) run down but the guys do their best to keep it clean and tidy. Never seen more than a handful of vans on here even though there's something like 60 pitches, probably because it's not in a very good position. Okay for a night or two though and bus or taxi into Casablanca easy to do.

Safe travels everyone

Thanks for your work Terry.
We are set to cross tomorrow (Sunday) and although he initially asked for €200 for the ticket (which I had heard previously quoted to a Spanish couple) after quoting MHF........but mainly when I said "I know Terry" he went down to €180.

So we'll be in Asilah tomorrow........................hopefully not with ALL the motorhomes parked here tonight. Useful to hear of that campsite Terry, as we want to overnight in Casa this year so the nearer the better.

And of course it has been really hot and sunny today, which is a great change from the weather travelling down.
So let's have a bit/lot more.................look forward to catching up with some of you.

32amps or 32 volts?

There is also a place at San Roque if you are coming from the other direction. It's on the mylpg site

We are off to Morocco in a couple of weeks, not by motorhome unfortunately.

How does everyone get Moroccan currency - credit card or change English money when you are there? Normally we go to Europe with a few euros and then get cash using a Halifax Clarity credit card but the travel company suggests using ATMs in Morocco has caused problems for some customers (with false billing??).

If cards aren't a safe option presumably you need to carry around a lot of English money.

We've never had any problems with the ATMs other than they usually have a %charge and of course your bnk may add another.

Don't know about Clarity but our bank does not charge for foreign transactions so it's only the local charge which is fine for the convenience. We always look for one of the major banks where we can go if the card is retained (always have a spare means) or any problems to complain about afterwards.

Also don't accept the currency conversion into pounds, which can be at whatever rate they choose. Alway go for the local currency rate

It was good to join up and meet a few new faces. ( One of whom fixed my bike today!)

We don't seem to be able to drag ourselves away from our lagoon site pitch at Moulay Bousselham.

We never had any problems with cards last year .

We were advised only to use bank machines when the bank was open and in fact watched one machine "eat" a card. The guy went in the bank and got it back there and then.

The Clarity Card gives you a better exchange rate than cash as it gives the LIBOR rate, you need to check carefully when using it for cash which you will need as some of the ATM’s want to remove your underwear and spank your bottom. Cash (UK pounds) at the port, 12.3 MAD to the £, garage for fuel, 12.55 MAD to £, restaurant 12.63 MAD to the £, the ATM in Ouladidia, 8.5 MAD to the £.
Be careful which bank you use, you will get a better rate than the above and the interest is diddely squat in the long run. (y)

Received an Email from Comfort Insurance this morning and at Last, clarity from with respect to the green card fiasco. No green card required for Europe until at least the 31st December 2020. How many people have had to buy green cards from their insurance company's this year is scandalous.

I had this problem last year and found when I withdrew cash using my Nat West visa I got hit with extra charges 1. Foreign currency transaction. 2. bank charge for transaction and 3. screwed on exchange rate.
I had euros on my Caxton card and phoned them as I was concerned I would get screwed if I used this card to withdraw MAD when I only had euro's in the account. Guy on the other end said your doing it all wrong. Just load up sterling onto your Caxton card and withdraw MAD from the cash machine with no bank or transaction charge what-so-ever. Just a straight forward inter bank rate conversion. This is what I did for the rest of my trip and it worked to perfection. Remaining sterling in my account used back in the UK. I think you can have 15 different currencies on your card at any one time. Give them a call, they will spell it all out for you there and then.

Get yourselfs a Revolute card, load it up with any currency when rate favourable no charges used it all around europe we also take cash in with us and exchange one large amount normally in Essuirra ,

My man in Tafroute phoned me yesterday the Almond festival starts 5th March, broke his heart when I told him unfortunately we won’t be able to make Maroc this year, hope you all have a great time
Inshallah

P.s Starling is another good account we stopped using Caxton a few yrs back rate was always piss poor compared to Revelute and Starling

But don't some of these cards limit how much actual cash you can take out each month.

We usually take out more than £200 each month as many places don't take cards.

How long does the almond festival tend to go on for?

Basic Revolut is £200 cash in a month then they charge 2%.
We both have Revolut cards so that's 400 a month cash

Spent that today, had to buy a new battery for the van and a few other bits and bobs:cry:

Anyone know where exactly the camel market at guelmim is please?

Yes we are planning on getting to the area on Friday for the market on Saturday. Is the arch you mention in the town or outside the town?

The market is held a kilometre out of town on the road to Tan Tan; it starts around 6am, and a couple of hours later the first tour buses arrive. Don't expect hundreds of camels. Most of those there will be sold for meat apparently
