Travel Insurance for Morocco

I suspect I have the usual pre-existing condition as possibly several of those who are going, people have mentioned safeguard in the past, are they still the best bet for extended cover which includes Morocco or is there something better?

ADAC worth it or not, I am unsure if they even cover Morocco, apart from a discretionary 200e discretionary payment.

Who are people with please?

Simon

Travel insurance..
In 2013 we used Staysure, as many others did or recommended. However price shot up for 2014.
2014. we went with LV... Depending on your length of stay overall for the whole trip after leaving UK you may need an extension for 90 - 120 days...

Van insurance. We were always with Safeguard but chose Comfort as they are meant to have a "claim back" for Morocco breakdowns. ie keep receipts and claim off RAC.. Luckily never had to test it..

NOTE.. Some travel policies have a clause, stating return trip must be booked... We used to only book a single to france and then another just before coming home... So be aware of this clause..

I've got my travel insurance with Staysure 6mths one trip £104 covers morroco as well which I'm happy with.
Also with Comfort for van insurance

Due to high blood pressure (under control with medication) our quote was around £260.00 with Stay sure. This cost, along with the ferry costs and additional fuel costs to get down to Algecerias will go into the melting pot and upon my return to Uk I will look at my total holiday costs and compare it against the cost of just overwintering in Spain. I will also take into account our Moroc experience. We have found Spain to be very good for overwintering and if the cost difference is significant we will probably resort to Spain in future. (assuming the status-quo remains in place)
My gut feeling is that Moroc will turn out to be a lot cheaper this year, even with the additional cost (I fully appreciate that cost alone should not be the deciding factor in choosing a place to overwinter.) and if so I will be over the moon as we are really looking forward to visiting Moroc. I suspect prices are rising quite fast in Moroc and within a few years they will price themselves out of the market. I hope I'm wrong...............again!

We found that prices in 2014 were pretty much the same as 2013, but the exchange rate had improved from £1=Dh11 to £1=Dh13 so things had actually got cheaper.
Current exchange rate is nearly £1=Dh14 so I am not expecting any increase in costs this year in sterling terms.
Diesel might even be cheaper than last year.

Plan would be to be at Lidl Algeciras lunchtime 14th to give us time to sort the tickets, either travelling independently or from an earlier "meet" somewhere. Get the shopping done - you don't have to use Lidl, there's several big names there. Cross a.m. 15th and travel to Asilah, fuel station on the motorway on the way, not too far. Sort out internet then everybody do their own thing.

We went to the Los Barrios LPG on our way back, was easy to spot (although we had a problem as for some reason couldn't get the gun to fit connector properly - was probably me!) We used the Malaga one on our way out - on an industrial estate behind the airport.

No problem.

To cater for others who would like to cross at different times I'm making up a second list - this hopefully may also give me some ammunition in getting a discount.
Here's what I got so far:

Some bank accounts include travel insurance. Although you may pay a monthly or annual fee, it works out cheaper, and sometimes no declaration of health required

NatWest provides up to 31 days per trip but does not cover those with a pre-existing medical condition.

They do if you tell them allegedly, but there may be an extra charge.

Take care when looking at these - often they don't include cover for Morocco as they stand, although it is probably possible to extend them - at a cost. When you've just tripped over in the souks at Marrakesh and broken your leg is not the time to find out! (That's when you need the MotorhomeFun rescue service! Whatever happened to that thread?)

Thank you Terry for adding us to the list. Martin&Sue(y)

Right ! Travel Insurance. Been trying a few quotes here and there and it's a sodding minefield. No two companies appear to give similar quotes for the same risk ? Anyway, I managed to get the quote down to £133.45 for the two of us by stripping out most if not all non medical related risks and reducing the time period for the time we are in Moroc only, as EHC will cover E.U.
Quite chuffed with that price as I have pre-existing medical condition but more importantly........my wife is Irish. A result!!!

Please add us to the list for the 15th, we intend to be in Benidorm for the festive bit, and amble our way down in the new year.
Cheers Ed & Shirley

Does anyone definitively know if the cover offered by ADAC FOR MOROCCO is anything other than discretionary??

I can only find reference to discretionary payments, just what is the cover they offer?
