Morocco 2015

Hope you had a great birthday Ken with lots of B And C sorry can't be with you in Pont l'arch with iffy wifi on ast leg home, have a good in love to all Simon and Marg

Now I was getting all down about not having fun in the sun with you guys and have arrived at Saint- Valery Sur Somme (aire10 euros) walked down the hill (half a mile) having lovely wine and wheat beer (will fill the cassette tonight hey hey) nice place, never been before, recommended.

Got up this morning and Mena said. lets move! So we did and have just arrived at Midelt (in Municipal campsite, 90 MAD with lecce), on our way to Meknes. Some stunning views along the way and of course out came the camera.
The goats were the second herd that came by within 2 minutes of the first and the shepherds just could not control them, (well they were young and stroppy) absolute chaos and great fun to watch.

Now at Meknes by the city walls, 40 MAD per day and I've got the guardian, police guy, and plain clothes guy, sitting on chairs at my offside door LOL. Some more stunning scenery on our drive here today and Meknes looks like a great place to explore. Will start in earnest tomorrow morning.

Philip just in case you don't realise we were allowed to go into the Kings Golf Course which is opposite were you are parked, worth going just to see the contrast, I just asked the gaurds they asked me which country we were from then let us in, the guardian will also top you up with water if you are stuck while they are watering the plants.

Meknes looks like a great place to explore.

It certainly is. One huge maze of sights to be seen, just dive in and see where you come out. Then do it again and again. We even did it at night. I think more "real Morocco" rather then the more touristy Marrakesh.

A couple more, one from yesterday between Medelt and Meknes showing the middle Atlas in all her glory and our Autotrail next to the city walls. You can even see the chairs of our day and night watch persons beside us. Must have known we were Funsters.

One hour 15 to be precise, what a maze of a place. Now sitting in corner of square on second litre of water after finding our way out. Talk about bargin hunting, everthing you could possibly want is in this place. Saw two young men having a scrap, one guy giving it hid all and when seperated by a dozenmen he ran off only to return again 30 minutes later (passed same place twice trying to get out)and he went hell for leather again. Must of been serious as he was crying with anger and it was amongst all the people i. The market place. When we left he was being held down by 4 fit looking men. I don't think that is going to be the last of it.
Today we have visitid the Kings tomb and the stable that housed 12000 horses. We have the prison to see later, been informed there were 16000 prisoners held there ( sounds a bit far fetched to me!). Lovely weather here mid 20's and were just chilling out now. Have booked a meal for tonight on a terrace overlooking the Medena and Mena is looking forward to that as am I as it has WiFi and Man U kick of at half way through the first course.
I'm hoping to get 3 day here before moving on. Mena has never seen so many cafes and restaurants in so short a time, anything to prevent that cassette from getting full LOL.

If the cassette gets full, ask the Guardien. he will take you a shop where you can use the toilets to empty out for a few Dirhams and a tin of beer.

A Link to a video of the drive to Agdz from Taliouine via the R108 with a soundtrack by Ray Lamontagne.

A great evening in Meknas, watched all the nesting Lesser Kestrals going into the city wall holes and the many Alpine Swifts soaring overhead.
We went down into the Madina around 18.30 and spent half an hour mingling with the locals and I even tried to hook a ring over a bottle of Coke (had the right idea but poor execution). Then up onto terrace at corner of Medina for dinner and watching all the activity below And the afterglow of the sunset.
Amazing to walk amonsgt all the street sellers with there gas lights on the go selling everthing and the locals were out in force, many wishing us well and making us fell welcome in their country. A great culture to enjoy.
Will post pictures tomorrow as now watching a brilliant game of football between United and Arsenal. (thanks to Maroc Telecom).

Anyone Who is going to be getting the Chunnel home, and has not prebooked the return, just been told by a motorhomer in Cité Europe that if you get a day return its £50 instead of £100 and if you have a dog say your leaving it in England and that's half price (£8) too! Check it out!

Simon, did the motorhomer say how to book this day return? I thought the only way to book was on line and having had a quick look I can't see anything obvious. Any more info would be appreciated please.

Visited the Mausoleum of Mouley Ismaïl yesterday where the tomb of Sultan Ismail is along with some of his family.
By all accounts he was a right bastard. Cared more about horses than people and used many of his people as slaves to build his palaces, Horse stables etc..Some pictures of the Mausoleum.

This is his Stable that he built to house his 12000 horses. Each horse had two attendants. He had enough grain stored to feed all of his horses for 20 years, so that gives you some idea of the size of this place. It was built on top of a river so there was a fresh supply of drinking water for his horses. In the 18 century an earthquake resulted in the roof collapsing on much of the stable, you can get an idea of the size of the stable from the exterior picture I have taken.

The underground prison of Meknes an UNESCO world heritage site. The prison held 16000 prisoners who were chained up to the walls. There was a central latrine and in all, the prison covered 7 acres.
When we visited it was quite cool. Mena is standing by the world heritage plaque and the entrance way to the steps leading down into the prison. You can also see the air vents above ground. (Surprised the French have not emptied their cassette down them (another reason for the guardian perhaps).

Great info and pics Phil, will be stopping at Meknes on the way up. Currently still at Tafraoue ha but making way over to Merzouga tomorrow.

Arrived at Agadir a couple of days ago after a pretty uneventful drive from Tafraoute and got parked up at the school.
Went for a drive up to Taghazoute yesterday to see what's what and bumped into Dazzlin. They had parked next to the Atlantica Parc Imourane right on the beach with about 5 others.
We drove North up the coast a few miles and found a layby to park, found a lovely spot on the cliffs, got the chairs out and just enjoyed the wonderful views for a couple of hours. Drove back to the school and went out for dinner to a place we found last year. Moroccan salad, bread, roast chicken and chips, soft drink, 50dh for two people! (£3.50). Lovely!
Red hot last night though making it difficult to get to sleep - it was still 22C outside at 10:30 pm.

He intimated it was the normal booking method but just do a day return instead,on the special offer link!! can't help much further sorry Ken, I'm back in Blighty now. Enjoy the rest of your trip and see you in your "baggies" soon:)

When this has been mentioned in the past it has been reported that they have debited the missing £50 from your account when you fail to complete your contract by returning. Might be difficult for them if you pay cash but they do have your address.
