Has anybody gone beyond Tafraoute to the East on the R106 yet?
We are thinking of heading to Tafraoute from Merzouga and would normally go via Agdz, Taliouine and then down the R106 via Igherm.
However just been talking to German couple who have pulled in here at the Auberge du Sud and he tells me that the R106 has been badly affected just North of Igherm by last years floods. "Catastrophe" was his word to describe it.
He has recommended from Agdz going via Foum ZGuid and Tata.
Anybody got any news on the state of the R106?
My reason for wanting to double check is that he has been in Morocco since before the floods and his information might be out of date (and his English is poor, and my German non-existent)
He also said the R105 from Agadit to Tafroute was "Catastrophe" but I think some of you may have driven that route without major problem?
Advice or news appreciated.

The R105 from Agadir is fine. i am loading a video of the drive. Will post a link when finished. From Tata take R106 to Issafen and then the new road, not on Michelin but is on maps.me from just south of issafen to Azgour then the R106 R104 to Tafraout. All fine.

Apparently, wild boar have been coming into town and the locals have killed them and one was offered up to the campsite and has since been butchered, distributed and devoured. All meat and very little fat. Guess we may be getting some more fresh pork soon LOL

there as been wild boar living in the forest area below agadir for years . in one of the butchers shops in the market at agadir there is usually meat for sale .
its a bit strong tasting for many but its lovely .

On average how much are you lot paying for those 3 or4 sided tin wind-breaks for the gas-stove.The reason I ask is some guy on this site was asking for 200 Dirhams and wouldn't go lower than 150 witch I thought was to much or am I being a skin-flint (I have been accused of that sometimes)I would like one for my Cadac but don't want to pay to much.

We paid 150 last year, at Tagazoute though the cheapest place was Tafroute but not by much.

I paid 150 at Tag after knocking him down from 200. Here at Tafraoute Phillip refused at 150 and reckons he might get him down to 100. But then Phillip seems to be able to get blood out of a stone!

Incidentally a few of the traders from Tag have turned up here.

Well truth is, I got him down to 100 and then refused. I'll work on him and the other traders over the next few days to see if I can get it down further. My initial offer was 20 MAD and after a lot of debate I offered a maximum of 30 MAD (Not got a clue on there value so now 100 seems good but have my Berber image to maintain now)

I paid 80 dh. Just keep saying Mafi faloose and then be quiet. Don't even look.

At the same time, they have so very little towards what we have and paying a reasonable price is fair, paying the bare minimum leaving them with very little profit is not always the best way. Often been fair with them gets you rewards you don't always think of.

What does that mean???

Carol, these guys know exactly whether they are making a profit or not. If they aren't making anything they just won't sell. A Moroccan will never sell at a loss, but he will enjoy overcharging foreigners as that is to him an honest profit.
