Thats the main reason we like Morocco. Its full of diversity. Have seen a man with a 10 furrow plough in one field and across the road a man with an ox and wooden plough. The biggest surprise for many is the lush greenery in the north. We prefer the south of the country as its not changed so much, but if you come off the motorway and take the back roads, its not changed much since biblical times, even in the north. We took a road last year only about 50 kms south of Tangier and it took us through villages with chickens running around in the road with grass growing in the main street. Maybe 1 motor vehicle a week goes through there. There is no doubt it is changing but once away from the tourist routes its much the same as its always been.

Your pictures look wonderful - I'm surrounded by and eating rubble & dust - got sick of mince pies
Have a great trip all. Hope you go next year.....

A few pics to whet your appetite ..

get over the mountains and find the desert..

Many thanks to those that have PM'd

Really sorry to hear of Daves dreadful news and I'm sure all our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family for a happy outcome.

I would just say that I intend to continue as planned down to Morocco and would welcome any others of the group that would be happy to tag along.

I have not been there before so will be trying something new and will probably make some mistakes, hopefully the ticketing and paperwork will not be too difficult but we will muddle through.

I will be interested to hear of any group members that are prepared to go.

Cydersyd.

Yes.. Best wishes to Dave and the family.... !!!
Hope things get sorted .. If anyone gets any news please keep us updated..

Ref the trip...
We are still planning to go and will stick to the same schedule for now.
Leaving UK on 9th Jan and being in Algecirus on the 15th ( although depending on what others are doing a day or 2 later also suits us) ... More than happy to meet up with any of the original group that wants to go, safety and a bit more peace of mind in numbers

If any other "seasoned" Morocco travellers can just give some tips about the arrival at Tangiers and the system on the paperwork, that would be appreciated. I have read several blogs but a bit more info, especially up to date, is welcomed.

Not by any means seasoned, we were helped into Cueta by DT, we exited on our own -- remember to store the entry documents safely for your exit.

It was a bit of a fiddle and took and hour to cross the border, organised chaos but only a question of visiting a couple of windows in the right order. Chancers were offering their services but Ray warned us about them, not needed.

Once inside Morocco it's as easy as the EU, English is widely spoken. As long as you have a good idea what you want to see that's all you need. You can do worse than look on Desert Detours site and crib off Ray's route.

We never had a problem using credit cards. There are plenty of petrol stations. Food and drink is plentiful. Mobile phones worked everywhere we went.

Don't drink the water, buy bottled. Be prepared for The Trots. Imodium ? We were OK some had an intimate affair with the toilet.

You can do it.

Hi all.

I have just spent 1/2 hour with Dave and am able to update you all....

He is for sure not going to be setting out on Thursday as pre arranged.

However, those of you that know Dave will know that he is a pragmatic person. He still anticipates that it may be possible that he will meet in Algeciras on the 16th.

He at this point is promising nothing and I am sure updates will follow,,

Many Thanks

Morocco

Still leaving as planned this friday, and also aim to be at algerceras as arranged, may spend a few days in cabapino first

Anyone know who dave was going to meet up at Calais?

Sue

There are Funsters down at Bonterra park I understand.. Tony Garvin & Perry plus others I think.
Also some are down in Benidorm at Villasoll.. You could make for either and make it for new year,,,,

I will be leaving 9th Jan, along with another New Funster and have to go via Benidorm on route, as I need to drop off some items at my apartment near the campsite... So if your anywhere along the coast route, me and Polar bear wont be far behind you... :thumb:

Hi

We hope it is nothing too seriouse with Dave.

We printed the form from the above link, there are 3 and are slightly different from each other, and filled them in before we left the uk, but when we bought the ferry ticket from Carlos they would have printed them off for us anyway but they did check they were filled in correctly. Don't forget Carlos now has an office next to Lidl. If we can be of any help please pm me, I can give you our Moroccan tel number and we are also on Skype.

If anyone speaks to Dave, wish him well from us.

Morocco Overland ~ Documents

March 2012
Your documents

To enter Morocco with a vehicle all you need is a passport (most visitors don't need a visa), your vehicle ownership document (V5 in the UK) and, if you can get it, motor insurance covering Morocco. If you can't get insurance at home you can get it at most Moroccoan ports or towns, see below.
Immigration procedures

Simple and straightforward and sometimes done on the ferry on Moroccan-run ships to Moroccan ports (ie: Tangier or less often the much quieter port of Nador) to speed things up. On the Spanish side at Ceuta you'll see 'helpers' offering to do the queing or form filling for you. They are not out to trick you unless you make it easy; they're just looking for a tip at the end of it, but aren't needed if you go ahead as follows:
• Fill out an immigration card (sometimes handed out when buying your ticket in Spain, or found on the ferry information counter, or ask at the police post or handed out by border touts looking for a tip). The form is in French with English subtext.
Under 'going to' write any big Moroccan town like Fez or Marrakech; for 'coming from' put the European port you've just arrived from (Algeciras, Almeria, etc).
For an 'address in Morocco' any hotel or camping in any well kown town will do. Pick one from your guidebook.
Do not fill out the back of the form. Hand it in to the police, get your passport stamped and have a 'CIN' number allocated and also stamped in your passport (unless you have one from a previous visit).
• Get a triplicate TVIP for you vehicle/s (see below).
• Show your 'green card' motor insurance extention for Morocco (if obtainable) or buy local insurance (assurance frontiere, in French) at some ports or from any participating insurance broker at the first big town (ask/look for 'bureau d'assurance').
Last I heard the fixed cost and time periods are 558dh for 10 days or 876dh a month for a car or bike. Motorhomes pay more. At the new Tangier Med or the Beni Enzar (Nador) ports, the insurance booths are in the port facility. Beni Enzar they may be unoccupied but with a phone number to ring. See link.
• There's an optional new form in French, the 'Constat Amiable' now available to fill out in the event of a road traffic accident. You fill it out, the other party fills out their half and you send it off. More details and a pdf copy here. Or download one here.
• That's it!

Temporary vehicle importation document: 'TVIP' or 'D16'
Aboard the ferry (on longer crossings), or in the Moroccan port of arrival you need to find the Customs office and get the triplicate white, green and yellow A5-sized ‘TVIP’ form titled in French: Declaration D’Admission Temporaire de Moyens de Transport (‘Temporary Importation Declaration of [means of] Transport).
This is a local version to the Carnet de Passage which Morocco thankfully does not require. It declares you’ll re-export your vehicle once you leave Morocco and is valid for 6 months.
You will need your vehicle ownership document ('V5' in the UK, carte gris in French). It's the 'passport' for your vehicle.
Completing a D16 in advance, online
It's possible to fill out a version of the TVIP online before you get to Morocco, but only if you are entering with one vehicle in your name (as most do). If you have say, your pickup with your bike or quad in the back, do the triplicate version at the border as detailed above. All your vehicles will need to go on one TVIP form and be linked to one passport. This online version does not work for multiple vehicles with the same owner.
Whether you fill it out in advance, or the triplicate white, green and yellow version while queuing at a Customs desk on a ferry or in a Moroccan port doesn’t really matter, [with one vehicle in your name] it's just one less thing to worry about on arrival.
So, click this link to the Moroccan Customs website to fill out your TVIP 'D16' form in advance.
On the above page fill out the following details:
Prénom et Nom: Your forename and surname. Broken Link Removed
CIN: If you have one stamped in your passport from a previous visit (example right) enter it. If not click Étrangers non résidant or autres (‘other’).
Immatriculation: Your vehicle’s registration number with no spaces.
Marque: Pick one from the menu. Along with many unknown marques, some bike marques are not listed so select ‘autre’ at the end. For Land Rover select 'Rover'.
Type: For example ‘Defender 300Tdi’ or ‘F800GS’.
Genre: Select Moto or Voiture de Tourisme.
Pays: Select your country ('Grande Bretagne').
Date de 1ère mise en circulation: Your vehicle’s date of first registration, found on the ownership document or V5 in the UK.
Châssis n°: Your VIN (vehicle identity number) also found on the ownership document.
Broken Link RemovedThen press Imprimer (print). Your D16 does not actualy print but appears on another page with all your information formatted in between French and Arabic translations, as well as a bar code, as on the right (click to enlarge). If it all looks correct then save this as a pdf to your desktop and print the page. Although 3 copiescome out over a page and a half of A4, you may as well print out an extra set. Don’t forget to sign each in the bottom left hand corner.

Broken Link RemovedForm for checkpoints in Western Sahara
Download this blank Word.doc template of a fiche or form to fill out with your details. Hand them out to speed up passage through the many permanent checkpoints in Western Saharan (south of Tan-Tan and Assa), particularly if heading down the Atlantic Route to Mauritania.
They can also be handed over instead of your passport at hotels in 'mainland' northern Morocco who ask to copy down your details. Up here the checkpoints are usually temporary ans won't require your fiche or details.
There are 4 fiches to a page. For a transit of the Atlantic Route you'll want at least 3 pages.

Looks Good

Might call in on our way home  in February.

Sadly I don't think our paths will cross in Morocco, but as I said we are here if you need us.

Happy Christmas (again)

Hi, I printed out this completed form, and it printed 3 pages of A4, each page I signed 3 times - is this correct?

Many thanks, Sue

If you look at the a4 where you have signed 3 times, where each signature is, is a seperate document, one for entry one for exit and one that you keep.
We were exactly the same as you, WORRIED but you don't have to be HONEST, a very nice person working in the ticket office (Carlos) will check it all for you and if needed (which I am sure it won't) print you another one. Don't forget if any of you are taking a "seperate" ROAD LEGAL vehicle you will need documents for this as well.

Hope this helps

Sue & Dave

Glad to be of help

Is it best to change some money on the boat? or do you know if money changing is available on the motorway services. ?

Hi

Our Moroccan phone number is +212(0) 637072643

When you get your tickets (Carlos) they will give you a document to fill in (immigration) they also give you this on the boat, you only need one per person. We filled ours in outside Lidl whilst trying some of there very nice vino. Once on the boat you join a queue to hand this in to the passport police, he will also need your passport to stamp. Make sure you can read ALL the numbers on this stamp, (we spoke to a French man who said he was held up for a couple of hours, because it had not "stamped" properly).
It sounds very daunting, but honestly it isn't. They are very good at Carlos's they explain all this to you and they even gave us a bottle of wine.

Once we had gone through customs, on the left there several "Banks" this is where we changed our money, and got quite a decent rate.

Good Luck

Sue & Dave

It is a newish port and
