Morelo For Beginners

I don't think I have followed this one particularly but for sure you can have problems whatever you buy and how much you spend, I am going in prepared to be disappointed so hopefully so hopefully I am disappointed if you know what I mean.

Incidentally, this was the guy I was telling you about the other day whereby his missus opened the kitchen draws during the HO at the factory and the draw runners fell apart.

I think he spent close on €525,000 so not exactly a great start when you consider the various leaks and the other issues etc.

I will have to watch it?

Is there a video?

It seems to be a blog in sections but it would only let me read 3 before it wanted me to sign up for it. The leak in the bit I read was the connection to the washer drier!

It has struck me while reading this thread that people with upmarket MHs are understandably wanting to protect them with coverage (Physical not insurance), but also have the space to do it, compared with people who cannot fit a 7m MH on their driveway.

Obviously some people have enough money for expensive and largish properties, but some of us have largish ones but not so expensive because of the areas. I imagine that land in Paul's area is cheap compared with SE, and ours is because it is Poland.

Anyway, for whatever the reason, money or space, we are the lucky ones to have nice MHs and space for cover. Although AFAIK nobody keeps a MH in an enclosed garage at home. We could easily fill-in between the pillars on the side away from the outhouses, and the end and put a door on front, but I have not felt the need.

Anybod(y) and enclosed garage at home?

If we moved to UK and wanted to keep the MH under cover we would have to sell my terraced house in SW London and move quite a way out to get enough land, which we probably would do anyway.

Geoff

Not cheap round here Geoff in Teesdale, this house bought 20 years ago needed a lot of work, would never be able to afford something like this around here now, even if it did need loads of work

Here's a useful link which I have been reading this morning over my coffee.

I've been reading a few similiar articles recently but it seems that just because you're spending £230K to £450k on a motorhome then don't expect the experience to be a golden one every time.

Am I the only one who thinks the Empire looks out of proportion on the Daily Chassis?

Just had a look at that blog - doesn't sound like a great experience! 5 hour handover sounds good - our RS handover was about an hour although it was our third vehicle so really just looked at what was new.

Related their niggly problems to SWMBO because she always thinks everything should be perfect but it never is - they are complicated machines and stuff does go wrong. Not sure I would have paid 2500 euros for a washer dryer - that's an awful lot of laundry you could do on site or at a French supermarket.

Would it be well into 7 figures like my 17' wide terrace house with only on-street parking in SW London?

I think the price he paid for the washing machine install and the selection of "in the garage held by lashing strops to an aero rail" demonstrates Guido's naivety at best. Consequently I would not pay too much attention to his dissertation, personally speaking that is. My fit and install, prep by Morelo and machine supply and install by dealer was E1300.

Ah that why I have not read it before then, wanted me to sign in straight away.

OK I have found a version I can read all the way through and now I remember I have read it before and came to the same conclusion, which I won't print here ;) the guy seemed to be out to make things as complicated as possible IMO, he believe he bought off a dealer in Germany but then seemed to want the factory to run around after him. And he kicked off when the factory wouldn't fit a washing machine that would make it all too heavy as he already had a Telma retarder which weighs 130kg.

Anyway it all goes quiet after handover so I assume he is happy as Larry now(y) or have I missed part 2.

Pt 1 was only December 19, so .....

I’m finding this thread very informative, so much so I gave Comfort a call re insurance. For a quite large budget C van I got quoted £2.4-£2.5 but budget for £3k. ?
Oh and they only insure up to £225k.

A quick update for you all:

I made a 30-minute call to the Louth Branch of the NFU this morning and as it turns out they seem to be the primary business POC for new MoHo business.

The operator was truly fantastic (Natalie) and, as per the brochure and the invoices received so far, I based my quote on a Morelo 'in-stock' van with a standard factory RRP of €318,000. I am squeaky clean on everything from driving offences to CCJs, to low risk insurance areas, to no Company Directorship appointment issues so IMO I'm a good insurance risk.

As expected my application was referred to a 'higher authority' in York NFU (the mothership) but, after receiving a further call at 4:30PM I was informed that my application has had to be sent even further up the chain for consideration - it's all about the value.

I am hoping for a return call tomorrow which will include a detailed account of what happens to the van in the event of an immobilized accident over in Europe.

Regardless of the outcome I have to say now that the NFU Louth branch is a highly professional outfit. It certainly gets my vote.

Otherwise, a quiet day.

All the best,

Andrew

The only slight concern I have is that if the NFU were ever to decide to withdraw its services for high-end vans then the owners would be fairly bu@@ered due to the lack of suitable alternative insurance packages on the market.

With so few Morelos, Concordes and RS' on the books I dare say that one big claim abroad could upset the apple cart for the rest.

Everyone best drive very carefully

Noted ?. Captain slow at the wheel

Just one more wee thing regarding our visit to the Morelo Factory.

I've done my calculations and I now realise that a 6-day trip would consist of 2,000 miles, 333-miles/day, with extra dealer trips involved, so I'm now wondering if I really need to bother as I have funflair Martin on the doorstep - and Michael on 'phone-a-friend'. :wasntme:

Premium Motorhomes have been really helpful with the visit-thing BTW.

I was insured through NFU Louth a few years ago and found them very easy to deal with. I only changed to Safeguard because I wanted more days coverage in EU.

If the NFU policy fits your needs I would recommend Louth office as they do seem to understand MHs.

If you drop your cheque book off before we go it will be all sorted without you even getting out of bed, where’s the fun though:giggle:

Thats all very interesting been with NFU for a very long time they covered or first Liner. The first Concorde Liner in the UK. And when we replaced in 2016 for a new 990G costing 360k euros they didn't bat an eye lid. Just PX that bus in Germany and cancelled the insurance but told them we will be back with them in May when we take delivery of the new Centurion 990GL. Do hope it will not be a problem. Only had to claim twice for the very expensive windscreens 5k each.

I’ve heard back from NFU regarding transporting vehicle after an accident. After double checking with the overseas claim team they’ve confirmed that in the event of an accident they would transport the vehicle to an appropriate garage.

As NFU is extensively covered in this thread can I direct readers to this post
Thanks

Michael

Hi Martin, I'll have to put you through to Nicky in that case. The only money that I have access to these days is the £20 in my wallet; soon to be £30 with my pending weekly pocket money tomorrow - I'm saving it for something nice.
