No idea.. so far the only place I've found bins is on service areas on motorways

Thanks for the photos. Reminds us of the trips we've had through Germany. Love it.
A confession: I suppose its my age (Yeuk - don't ask) but I do find I think about WW2 when I'm in Europe and wish I didn't.

First time I drove out of Calais heading East to Belgium, I thought about my Uncle who was in the Royal Scots and was captured as he was part of the rearguard that let so many others escape.
The land is so flat that there would hardly have been any cover at all ?
We visited a small military museum in Cornwall and one of the displays was a very rusty Lee Enfield rifle brought back from a dig near Dunkirk, but what made it more poignant was that the bolt had been drawn back indicating no more bullets left but the bayonet was fixed in place.
My Uncle came home at the end of the war but died relatively young, and was always said in family circles that his time in captivity was probably partly to blame ?

A real nice tribute

I've a great uncle Black Watch killed in WW1 came from Perth and apparently is remembered there on a big memorial church, I found his grave in Wassigny Eastern France very moving to see it and all the other young lads View attachment 921943

Aye that cemetery I was in they were all young , 19, 20, 21 etc ....damm shame and such a bloody waste.



That said though the next load of photos I'm gonna upload will give a clearer reason why. Because nothing I learned in history etc cane close to visiting dachau and we did that today .

So after lunch we headed back towards Munich and visited dachau concentration camp .. I never realised before that this camp was actually one of the main ones and a lot of the prisoners evacuated from the other camps were sent here. Its also incredibly hard to believe German citizens didn't know what was going on or that they were gullible enough and easy led to allow this to happen . Its free to enter the museum but they charge €5 per vehicle to park and it was crazy busy ... not sure I agree with there being profit made out of this either. A very sombre place. I spent over 2 hours in there but could easily have spent longer as there's so much to read , the conditions were appalling , the torture , the experiments etc . And yet despite many of the nazis from this camp being taken to war crime trials most were never convicted.

I thought I'd taken a photo of the information board that listed all the companies that used prisoners from the camp as forced free labour, many of the companies still going today . BMW was one that stood out the most but there were quite a few others , ceramic companies, kitchenware , engineering companies etc.

I've 3 great uncles in war cemeteries in France, I found one in loo's ( think that's how it's spelt but the other 2 I'm not sure where they are .

My Great Uncle was killed by the Japs (My nan's name for them after they killed him) on the death railway. I found a memorial plaque in Thailand with his name on it while on holiday there It was so carefully looked after my nan was touched and moved to tears when I showed her photos of it

Visited here in 90s Tam. In the gas chamber room was a memorial to 3 girls of the SOE (Special Operations Executive). They were trained in Britain and they rested at Beaulieu Abbey before parachuting into France. There is a tiny memorial alter in the abbey too. The were eventually captured, taken there and tortured in those gas chambers. They didn't crack so were executed there. They were awarded British and French medals for their bravery. Its heartbreaking to read their ordeal.

I have just had moby on a free weighbridge and we came up at 4000kg , that's with nearly full water , gas and 3/4 diesel . So not too bad . I've also a further 25l of water in bottles etc.

So 200kg under my max at the minute.

Didn't give individual axle weights unfortunately

So this morning we had a wee walk around landsberg am lech , cute wee town . Have to say the Germans are much better with dogs , everyone making a fuss of mine, even shopkeepers coming out to see them and give them a pet .. downside to Germany no feckin bins , they want you to pick up dog poop but no bins to put it in .. 4 dogs = a lot of poop .

Launderettes with no parking anywhere near by. It's feckin ridiculous, third one I've tried between yesterday and today and no parking whatsoever. Can't even park on the pavements as its all cycle lanes with no bugger on them .
