MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

We had a walk up to old kardymili this morning and then along to the small harbour where the dogs had a play and a swim at the beach ...they met a new friend , a very energetic dog no idea what type he was but his owner never got out the pickup... he just gave the occasional peep of the horn when he wanted the dog to return.. of course his dog had never met my three before lol so at one point he was blasting that horn for all he was worth and the dog completely ignored him as he was just running around chasing mine 🤣 😂

The first time I visited that wee harbour in 2020 the house at the pier was a ruin but they've totally rebuilt it now and it's all furnished inside. I'm guessing it's either someone's holiday home or a rental as its empty . But lovely job they've done of it and what a location .
Milo had a good swim and ela and jade were in for a good paddle but neither of them seem to like actually swimming .. we then visited the bakers on the way back to the van where I spent a ridiculous amount of money on some baklava and some traditional Greek Christmas almond cookies and chocolate covered cakes. Well it's Christmas after all lol

Had a second walk this afternoon along the big beach to the right of us and then I fell asleep on a bench in the sun for half an hour and when I woke up the dogs were all taking themselves a walk over the rocks .

What a cracking pictures Tam, wish I was there again, love Greece , the sea and those blue skies never bore 😎

There is a great hardware shop in the village Tam that sells just about anything including dog treats and leads etc.

The restored house is to do with the travel writer who put the village on the map and has a villa nearby. Very interesting character bit like James Bond, can’t remember his name Patrick something but someone will know.

Might have to visit that hardware shop as I lost a lead a few weeks ago.

I could have the house I want and pocket enough to buy a used Tesla model S, with transferable free Super Charging for life so I would have no petrol/diesel costs, use some more for solar and batteries to limit future energy costs.
Can you actually transfer the free supercharging to a new owner?

Apparently, seems to be model S up to about 2016 if was an option when purchased. They soon realised how much this might cost longterm. While there are a few around with free transferable supercharging with around 40 or 50k miles on the clock there have also been a few with 170 - 180k miles on!!

Evening

So we moved on this morning from kardymili, we had a brief stop in stoupa for a walk along the beach ... quite a bot work going on there at the minute the restaurant I had dinner in with Jackie dave n Marsha 2 years ago on Christmas eve is being rebuilt ...the bay is a bit of a mess so it was a quick walk , couple of photos and off again

We then headed off to Agios nikolaos with the intention of staying there tonight but ...its also a building site at the minute as they're resurfacing the main road through the village , so there's machinery everywhere. The spot I parked at on previous trips at the wee beach was a bit flooded and muddy and no other campers about so again we just had a wee walk took a couple of photos and moved on.

Followed the coast road down through a few wee villages that whilst are pretty they're small with nowhere really to park ....so the next spot for parking was Neo italo which is where we are tonight.... few pics of the village from the road down to it

Unfortunately it started raining pretty much as soon as we got here so we've not been out again this afternoon. Rains off now though. We will take a walk through the village tomorrow and along to Lemini.

I've got a tajine on for dinner tonight 😋 🤗. Not made one in a while

I get the impression that there's not so many campers around as there was last year.
2 years since I've been here but yeah definitely not as many as previous times. I've hardly seen any since the west coast.

Sometimes that's a good thing though .

I suppose so; you get the pick of the good sites and not so much chance of having to put up with idiots. I think I might feel a bit lonely though.

Aye there is that . Meeting up with Ken and Charlie from Instagram in a few days though. Think there might be another couple too but not sure yet.

In Areopoli today , first time I've had a look around this town and it's actually quite nice. .... interesting thing was this old fella started talking to me about the dogs. He thought ela was a hellenic hound , I said I wasn't sure of the breed but I thought she was a transylvanian hound as she's identical to another 2 transylvania hounds I follow on Instagram, he kept saying he thought she was a hellenic scenthound so I thought I'd Google just to see..

There are definitely similarities and the personality seems to fit but meh I'm sure she's transylvanian lol

Another lovely sunny day , so we had a walk from neo itilo where we stayed last night to Limini a wee seaside village that looks very posh , all the houses either have been or are being renovated.

When I got back to the carpark the first other brit campervan I've seen was parked up next to me , an auld fella Andy from Cumbria in a converted vw crafter , so been having a bit of a blether with him for the last hour or two and we're gonna go grab a beer in town . He's on his homeward stretch making his way back to the UK for the second week in January, he's hoping for a hip replacement sometime in February as it's giving him a lot of bother. He's on 2 sticks at the moment. Areopoli is a bit noisy between kids and boy racers but hopefully it quietens down later as I'm just gonna stop here for tonight. I'm not far from the wee beach I'm meeting up with the Belgian couple in a few days 20231221_103413_copy_1566x983.jpg 20231221_103454_copy_1541x1143.jpg 20231221_143401_copy_1564x998.jpg

The sea just looks so inviting. What’s the temp of the sea as in is it warm enough to swim in.
I would have to get in there snorkelling 👍
Hmm it depends if you're a woose like me. I've been told that between summer and winter the sea temperature around here only actually changes by one or two degrees ...no idea if that's true or not. It always feels cold to me lol. If its a really hot day though ill tend to go in for a paddle etc... and occasionally a dunk , I'm not a very good swimmer. However Jackie was always in the sea around Greece when we travelled together last time , she had no shower etc in her van so it was how she kept clean. She went in regardless and often told me that it was actually better if the air temperature was colder rather than warm as you didn't get so much of a shock. Makes sense really buy you would never get me in the sea when it was cold lol.

Couldn't be a surfer etc ...too much of a woose ..

Me too, I’m like a fish. The colour of the water is beautifu.

The Mediterranean sea never gets really warm out where it is deep. You think its warmer in summer because water gets trapped in bays and close to land where it is shallow and the sun is beating down on it - and then it really warms up. Can get up to 26C+. However if you go far enough out it will probably be about 18 depending on currents. Its quite a complex thing.

We were once in Kefalonia in June and had been in and out of the sea all week. We then went to a remote beach where the sea was really deep. It was bloody freezing

It always feels warmer if its raining, but not sure why

I'm really enjoying the travelog and photos. Any chance of GPS co-ordinates for each place for a future plan (pretty please).
Probably too much hassle to give coordinates.
In Tams previous Spanish trips..I’ve just used a pencil and paper And taken a note of all towns.👍

All correct, but just to add: that where the sunlight penetrates to a sandy bottom it reflects back and gives off a double dose of warming. So bays with a sandy bottom have even warmer water.

Also if there are waves rolling in and mixing the colder deep waters with the warmer surface waters it will be cooler.

I'm such a lightweight, 2 bottles of fix and I'm half pises lol , slurring my words and everything.. very embarrassing, anyway back at the van now Alan is a nice fella , retired school teacher , 62 , has a lovely 9 year old labrador.

Areopoli well lit up , the only 2 punters the bar had . Don't know how it's worthwhile opening but 4 beers in total €19 so at least he's made something.
