Minibus to motorhome

I've been stickering today.
The van is all ready for a bit of use tomorrow with our daughters sailing dinghy hooked up to the back. We're still lacking any basic facilities, but it'll be good to actually go somewhere in it!

Today's the first time I've seen the van anything other than close up on the driveway since I painted it.
I have to say I'm quite pleased with my efforts

I think the seats look cool, ideal for a garage converted to a home cinema

You don't appear to have a breakaway chain.You do know it is a legal requirement to prevent trailer parting company if it comes off the ball hitch ? Chain has to be short enough to prevent hitch hitting the ground.On new trailers they have to have a skid plate also to prevent 'digging in' & flipping.

There is one. It's a steel cable loop like the one on the link. It's just sitting in the photo so the hitch is covering it

No bubbles? They do make a massive difference to the look of the camper.

Funnily enough I've just tinted, with a dark ish mirror tint, the windows on the two sunnier sides of my conservatory. It has made a huge difference to the internal temperature of the conservatory when the sun is beating down on it. Don't get me wrong, it's still toasty warm, but it is no longer an oven.
I purchased my tint from an online retailer, and I used window tint made for outdoor use.
The tint was therefore applied to the outside of my double glazed units.

You can of course tint double glazed units from the inside. But, if those windows are in direct sunlight, then they may suffer thermal shock which can result in the failure of the double glazed units.

You can also buy tinted security film which when applied, makes windows extremely strong.

They're a strange design really. Two bits of metal bolted together, with a gap which over time muck and water will find a way in and then start rusting. I guess they were the originals as they had traces of red paint which they appear to use on everything from factory.

Most likely a "beancounter" specification , lot cheaper to manufacture , and will last long enough !!

I think many parts are created this way deliberately so they have a life expectancy.

Just sold my dead movano .... In many ways a better built van than my new transit... I doubt it will be around in 13 years time. The body on the Renault was so much better protected.

It also has the feel of a proper chugging camper which Tam and Craig can probably understand, makes you slow down and take life at a slower pace which I'm going to miss tbh!

How did your Movano die?
Was it a mileage issue or something else?
 
We used Iveco trucks and vans as breakdown and recovery vehicles. They were a tough chassis if the ride was a bit firm. They had plenty of low down power.
I often wondered why the Iveco has not been used much for motorhome builds. The older ones were quite industrial but times have changed making them reasonable to live with full time.
Enjoy the build. I await the follow on photos.
That are the “go to” chassis for virtually all the entry level RWD vans from Concorde, MORELO, N+B, PhoeniX and RS amongst others.

This one as a 40C is the 4t chassis so Craigderby will need to take care not to add too much weight with the build, might plate to 4600kg.
