Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

Did you new sensor arrive and did it sort the problem on Toby?
The sensor is here but not fitted , i was getting fed up of the in and out the driveway saga so i came to an agreement with buyer that he takes it as is and deals with the warning light and aircon himself.

Couple of little patches let in today ...and then more of the rough stuff the coachbuilders left cut out and cleaned up. Rust converter applied to a few areas before i prime them ......ive my second jab to get tomorrow morning and im hoping to view a caravan in the afternoon so i might not get back on it for a day or 2

Buying a caravan has proved to be a bit of a joke to be honest. I viewed one yesterday turned out it was on a traveller site and the outside was enough for me not to bother.
Supposed to view one today at 1.30 and the guy never provided me with the address. Enquired about another one that the person said still available ...asked to go view it and he doesn't reply .

What a joke

Annoying I'm sure the right one will come up .. an older couple giving up tugging for instance!

Cheers James

Back in the day I bought a twin wheel Hobby from a bloke on a traveller site, it was a year old and immaculate. Going in with £11k cash was unnerving but it all turned out to be right.

Would I do it now, probably not.

You had to see this caravan to believe it ....it was filthy and every window had damage ...i never even looked inside.

Ive 2 to view tomorrow if they dont sell them from under me but none are trustworthy. They give you a time to view and the next thing the add is removed as they have sold it to someone else.

Well probably not the best buy i have done in my life but i do now have a caravan.....its old and has definitely leaked around the front windows before but its clean and its a bit more spacious. No idea if any of the appliances work or not 🤣🤣 and I'm pretty sure the irish charmer was a former itinerant but its home after a nerve-wracking tow back from near Edinburgh. Ill get a good poke around it tomorrow and see whats what.

Never a dull moment here thats for sure.

Hows the V50 hunt going? The V50 is really a ford focus tbh. Unless you go for the t5 /d5 model. Skoda Octavia would get my shout.

Cheers James

Not very well ..the one i was interested in was near London ..which had it been the great buy the guys advert made out id have happily got the train down and bought it but when i phoned him he was the laziest salesman ever ... wouldn't check the service history for me to check cambelt change ...mumbled about EML being illuminated ... decided in the end to forget it. I have a 2.0l diesel one on watch on ebay thats just in dundee.

Decided to expand my search to other makes and models if the price is right ...not ruling out a smallish van either. As long as i can carry stuff in the back and a towbar would be handy also.

No rush as ive got the shed ...i mean caravan here now so ill see what cars come up.

Honestly Tam you get a Grade A for entertainment value. I really enjoyed your Greek trip and since then you get better and better. You have great commitment and plough on through everything. You will come up trumps at the end of your build (I have done three build myself) and thank you very much for your thread in the meantime. Good Luck

Well in the cold light of day i can confirm that was definitely not the best move ive made ....this caravan is a complete shed . That will teach me to panic buy ....im now faced with the question of do i try to offload it again quickly or do i suffer it out for a few weeks and see what comes up .

This one is only fit for scrap thats for sure ...i think id even struggle to get my 450 quid back .

You wont be the first. My daughter bought a fendt caravan. On the way home it started to disintegrate. The whole back end fell off. Now it's more of a flatbed trailer. Absolutely rotten.

It’s worth the £450 to break and use bits in your merc. Those front windows would look good in the roof and let in light, cooker etc. Then sell the rest on to a caravan breaker.

Me thinks you need to think more positively. £450 for a full cooker, boiler, heater, lots of premade cupboard doors. The list goes on.
My thoughts too, then some money at the scrapie for the chassis, he will easily make a profit on it.

As i said the pics don't do it justice...but you can see now how i bought it as it looks presentable. However the walls around front windows , rear panel and roof of wardrobe are crumbling at places. I could possibly put up with it short term but wet cold winter i think id struggle. Couldn't use the shower in it etc

Im here now looking at a newer model for a couple of grand and ive stuck the other one on gumtree again and have a few enquiries.

Well i now have 2 caravans 🤦‍♂️ but nowhere to put the one ive just bought until i get shot of the other one ...ive 2 people saying theyre coming to view it tonight but will see. I often ask myself how i get myself in to these situations 🤣

That Vario is a bit rusty you will get a few bob at the scrapie for it.
