Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

That sounds excellent, unfortunately I have no idea how to do it. Still I can get someone who can. Is it a long job?

The relay is available in a kit for about £15 (just search Thule Step Relay).

It's an easy 15 min job as long as the step wiring is accessible.

One point - the wiring drawing supplied is confusing. I have a simpler one that I can PM if needed (just one I did myself).

It shouldn't be. The difficult part of any wiring job is running the wires. Yours will all be in place because of the system you have at the moment. Just be sure to use someone who understands what you're asking - probably not your average dealer 😉.

Edit: beaten to it by Wissel 😏😁.

We were asked for a £2,000 deposit by one dealer and I told him to poke it.
this is why i said £5k

if you're not committed why should the seller be, trust works both ways in my book, save nothing for no-one if they haven't lined your palm with silver ;)

Did you read scousebird correctly?, she told the dealer to poke it (keep ya MH I'll spend my money elsewhere).

Im not so much saving it though ...i advertised it once back in may and then i had decided it was daft to sell it just now when the vario wasn't finished so i never listed it again. This guy had contacted me back then expressing interest but told me he didn't have money till late August. I never expected to hear from him again to be honest. But he's still keen.

Im genuinely not fussed either way for once in my life as either way could work for me at this point. So im happy with a grand deposit because if he later changes his mind it won't put me out in any way as ill just head off to europe in october as planned. If he does buy i should be able to pick up a cheap caravan at that point to live in for a few months...and ill get the vario finished quicker.

Its also an easier amount for me to return if any disaster happened between now and the start of September lol

Iirc the asking price is £27.5k? If that was the agreed sale price and I was buying it I'd offer the £500 for the dipper. There's an old saying about a fool and his money.

yes I did and if the purchaser wasn’t prepared to leave a sizeable deposit they’d have to go elsewhere as i wouldn’t be selling anything to them lol

I originally thought £500 but i thought £1k is harder for someone to lose. 4 weeks is a long time and its his doing not mine so i think thats fair. I left a grand on the frankia when i was buying it for much the same reason ...i wasn't getting the money from my house sale for 5 weeks . But they had been advertising that for months with no luck . Ive made it clear to this chap that im not fussed about selling it at present. In fact im almost doing him a favour lol

I did go elsewhere and left £1,000 as a deposit. I also got £10,000 more for our MH as a trade in.
That's what happens when dealers start requesting deposits that the buyer isn't prepared to meet, and is the reason most dealers don't ask for silly money deposits.

That's fair enough, and if he's happy to pay it everyone's a winner.

A couple of months ago I ordered an electric mountain bike. The dealer asked for a 10% deposit. I asked for details of their escrow account. They came back and said they didn't have an escrow account but a £50 deposit would be fine.

Are you going to weld the windows up yourself Tam. Well not the actual windows but the holes where they go. (y)

Might not have to bother about jeff the fireman ... he's been texting again all evening ...its like the Spanish inquisition.

He got around to asking if he could drive it on a test drive and was told no ...i told him if after he'd looked at it i would take him for a drive but he's saying its a deal breaker if he can't drive it 🤷🏻‍♂️ but im not taking the chance. I never got to drive it or the frankia when i bought it

Hmmm I understand your concern, on the other hand, you can learn on lot from a test drive about vehicle condition with yourselves on the controls, breaking in straight line, grip point of clutch, vibration in steering, gearbox engagement of gears, suspension/stabilising issues, torque at different revs, so I can see why it is an issue for him, I would think that you can find a particular safe road where he could be convinced that all is as should be? After proof of insurance and a deposit in your hands for excess?

I did tell him that once he had the cash and he came to collect it that he could drive it then and see there were no issues. But he wasnt happy with that. I lost a car and the money from it many years ago because an idiot crashed it and walked away. I had to take him to court and won but he got a year to pay it and never did ...when i employed baillifs to recover the debt he was confined to HM barracks and apparently the wages of a soldier can't be arrested....long story short i lost the value of the car , additional court costs , payment for witness earnings etc etc .

Nowadays i dont let anyone drive my vehicles , ...ive not heard from him since last night. His first motorhome so i understand his concerns etc but fireman or not unless he has taken out insurance to cover my van and can prove it he aint driving it.

I thought you'd been slacking but it was just the website deciding to ignore the fact I'm watching this thread. It's done that before with your thread!!! Just the 5 pages to wade through, I would have been on the keep Toby side, who knows in this weird world, 27.5k doesn't sound much in these times, might get more next year if it stays weird and you will have had another epic, electrical problem filled trip, around Europe!!

As Ragnar would say " it is in the hands of the god's". If he doesn't buy it then it was meant to be.

He's been back in touch now asking if i would let him drive it in an industrial estate as a compromise. Ive told him that would be fine
I’ve sold a few of my bikes privately and the buyer didn’t get to test ride it till I had the full asking price in my hand (cash in those days). If he binned it it didn’t matter it was his.

He's putting a fair amount of effort in, if he's just a tyre kicker
Aye but ive met some professional time wasters over the years ...he did say he viewed 3 vans last week and he thought they were all rubbish.

So he could be one of those people looking for a brand new van for second hand money ....ive already had the £27k is a lot of money line. Im not trying to sell him it ...he seems keen but time will tell .

My insurance on it is due for renewal too on the 17th which is very inconvenient.
