Medical at Age 70

I disagree. I'm a retired nurse. When I was practising I had to pay a registration fee to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Their purpose is to keep the general public safe. Many things that keep us safe aren't free. I'm afraid your logic is flawed.

Cowboys masquerading as doctors deserve to be banned.
I disagree no it’ not. I guess that you’re in the low wages bracket and still support it.

Because there could be people driving around who are not safe. Remember the Glasgow bin lorry? Also if I am paying for a doctors report I expect to get a doctors report, not a rip off merchant with a rubber stamp. I don’t care if it costs a few quid more it should be done properly.

I must say I had my suspicions when I had my examination done by Doctors on Wheel back in 2018. The lady in the transit had an Eastern European accent and looked too young. She had a stamp too rather than signing the form herself. I was not too worried because I knew the answers I gave, which she never checked, were correct, but others may be less scrupulous. The only thing she actually checked and verified herself were my blood pressure and eyesight.

If it was that important it would be done by the nhs for free. You might feel better, but I feel a whole lot better when the money stays in my pockets.

The eyesight test not exactly onerous with a standard opticians alphabet board in the confined space of a SWB transit.

I have no clue what your point is.

When I last asked my dr a good few years ago it was £120 for the medical and they told you when they would do it not when I wanted considering I was paying that amount of money, so would mean a day unpaid off of work. That’s exactly why drivers went to dr on wheels.

Our experience is this is not as complex as is made out here. Getting an appointment for your GP to carry out the medical right now is impossible and it also means you will require a separate appointment for an eye test, again almost impossible. Plus the cost is more than twice that of going through a specialist company. We have been through D4Drivers, assumed the Doctor was qualified and you have no significant medical condition they carried out the medical including the eye test and job done. Took 20 min. Sent it off to the DVLA and providing you passed the test having sent the form off we believe you are able to drive without having had the licence back from the DVLA.
Just take a copy of the form with you to the medical.

You must have plenty of money to afford to pay for it.

Actually, if you read the thread you'll see we've downsized to avoid it altogether.

Why should everyone else pay through the NHS for your license, you are the one who gets the benefit of driving something out of the ordinary. I would rather they spent their money on cancer and heart treatment.

Same reason I have to pay for people banging out kids and getting benefits. As for the driving I am like a vast majority, it’s a means to an end nothing more. Why do you think so many are happy if they was lucky enough to be furloughed.

I no longer have any idea what you are trying to say and will bow out of this argument.

This C1 licence is a bit of a farce if the standard lic was up to say 4250 that would cover the majority with no messing about med etc, or a C1 test it all adds on extra costs so people buy a 3500 motorhome and run around overloaded or have a 3700 motorhome down plate to 3500 more costs and stick a 1 tonne trailer on the back more costs and run around at 4500 plus with an extra 4 mtrs long trailer to clutter up the roads. It would suit me well if they increased the weight limit and the car and caravan that can weigh more than a standard weight motorhome is a nonsense. However, if they raised the limit I fear manufacturers would respond by tempting purchasers with more goodies and space and we would be back where we started in a few years time but just at a higher limit.

If the UK did that unilaterally without the other 140+ Treaty countries agreeing, people with British Licences would be confined to the UK.

I don't think there is standardisation across 140 countries as to what weight you can drive with a standard car licence. For example the USA has higher limits for weights than us for those who passed their "test" over there in a standard automobile. The 3500kg limit was introduced in 1997 as a standardisation measure throughout the ECC only. Now we are no longer members of the ECC we are free to change it back to what it was before (7.5 ton from memory), or any other figure, if we wish. Whether a higher limit would be accepted when we were driving in other countries is another matter, but that has always been that way.

Ive no idea about other states thats whats on the back of the Florida drivers lic i have here.

I wish i could find the info again for standard eu lic where the weight can go up to 4200kg if no tacho is fitted therefore non commercial vehicles. This rule can be applied by individual govs if they wish.

Well you have a point there, but will this gov change anything that makes us have simpler life at the moment we are drowning in paperwork.

Its a good job we have been given wheelie bins for our paper rubbish. I’m sure that I got my C1 forms from the Post Office. Where about in Selby are you, we are in Thorpe.

Osgodby, the D4 form from the local P O was 6 yrs out of date, i printed one of dvla site in the end. Bill

Disagree; give 4250 and they will then be attempting to load up to 5500. Cake and eat it sort of thing. Quite surprising to see examples of say what you can and cannot do in lockdown people are always trying to cheat the system - not understanding the bigger picture.

The reason i say 4250 is some motorhomes at 3500 if you fill with fuel and add 4 people, two batteries and bedding they are overloaded never mind beans and beer.

You might be cheating lockdown. I’m not!
The 3500kg limit exists until changed. I have another 8 months to decide what to do. I doubt I will change the van. But you never know.

You missed the point I was making; I am surprised how many people are not adhering to the rules NOT endorsing it!

I don’t agree. I don’t think folks deliberately overload their vans either.
