LPG installation.

Jesús (the guy who installed it) told me that people do say that but he could find no reason for it and certainly not a risk of overfill as the system controls that. However, I can switch bottles manually any time so it might be an idea to do that occasionally so the gas in the other bottle doesn't go off? Does gas go off?

Really ⚠️
The lack of basic knowledge and understanding about how the valves and systems work is actually quite disturbing.
You can certainly overfill any LPG system if you try hard enough and are either stupid enough to spend 45 minutes trying to get the last few pence in or choose to ignore the fact that alternating between cylinders is in fact best practice and something we religiously explain to all our customers.
We actually demonstrate the valve operation in the open air to our staff members so they have the benefit of having the correct knowledge.
I talk to someone who is involved in the gas training for Leisure vehicle fitters and it’s actually very scary how limited and basic their knowledge really is , they don’t even have to learn how to do a gas fitting properly ⚠️

I don't know if they told you, but best practice is (reportedly) to make sure you use both bottles, don't keep using and refilling just the one.

The 80% autofill cutoff will apparently let small amounts through if it is already full, so if you only use one and repeatedly refill it, you can overfill the one you don't use.
You are absolutely correct about this and it’s something that we explain to all our customers.
Ignore anyone telling you otherwise 👍

I nearly always change the changeover to the other bottle after filling up but if we fill up on this trip in Spain or France I won't as I don't want a bottle with 65% butane in it when I get back to the UK.
Portugal is OK that is 100% propane like the UK.

I think you'll find it's propane in Spain not butane. Says it on the pumps.

It is a mixture up to 65% butane dependant on time of year.
Quite a few people have been caught out, filling up in Spain then finding Truma Combi won't work on cold Marroco nights in January.

Well in this case the fitter has all the understanding and knowledge needed and he extends the necessary homologation certificate needed for the Spanish authority. He was trained in the UK as seen by the diplomas and certificates he possesses and all the equipment is imported from the UK also.

Well I'm not that stupid, so no case there, the pump automatically shuts off once full. Maybe this is a new system you are not familiar with?

I love the way that only British people know how to do it properly 😂

Yes, correct, much the same as in all of Europe apparently (except the UK). I've not been to Morocco as yet, in the van that is, so wouldn't know, but if you run out you're gonna have to fill with whatever they have I would say.

When you do visit Morocco Barrie....post a question on here..." Can I fill up my GPL, GLP or LPG in Morocco".. don't be disappointed to hear...NO....but you can buy one of their cylinders....forward planning for you...

Obviously you have not done much filling.
When the 80% valve cuts in the pump slows right down and it can be sevel minutes before it cuts off during this period there is a danger of over filling. You need to release the lever when it slows down and not wait until it cuts off.

Martin… the answer is yes you can get your cylinders filled in Morocco but you may not like how they do it..😆😂🤣😳

I purposely kept out of this discussion until you gave incorrect information to another poster who raised the possibility of overfilling refillable.
Definitely not a new system we haven’t seen before as we actually stock them , quite how you have come to the conclusion that I in any way inferred that only British people know how to do it properly is beyond me 🤔
Actually a shame that you aren’t open to advice from alternative sources.

Cylinders yes...but at a gas station with a pump filling your underslung tank or Gaslow system....please don't tell me that's possible...
Oh... Lord...they don't do they...😃😃😃💥

No, not here. As soon as it is at 80% it cuts off, period, no slowing down. You can press or hold the button all you want, but it won't give you any more

Someone just pointed out to me the pigtails to the regulator don't meet EU regulations.

I agree Lenny HB as I’ve juts fitted a new lpg installation and this is the correct pigtails to use

It was inferred, between the lines maybe, and I'm accustomed to that so don't worry too much.

I am open to advice from alternative sources, but please allow me to have confidence in the company I chose to do the installation for me and the advice they have given me. They were highly recommended to me by many people here and I am impressed with the service provided. They are an officially certified company for gas installations in motorhomes, cars, trucks and boats in Spain and they travel all over the country to carry out their work.

The Moroccans have a solution for everything Martin, so I’m told and from what I’ve seen…😳😱🤣

And what are you suggesting is wrong with them?
Hoses from regulator to bottle have to be factory made to meet approvals those have been made up on site.
Also being thermoplastic rather than flexable they is no allowance for bottle movement.

The more I look at your installation the more dodgy it looks I don't think it would meet any approvals & knowing how strict Spain is on vehicle additions I think you may have problems in the future.

Well when you read about a motorhome gas explosion, it'll be me so say a little prayer 🙏

Leaking LPG is quite a serious matter Barrie...assuming you turn off both cylinders before travelling...I know you are new to motorhoming, but make turning off your gas prior to driving should be part of your routine...
As you know your gas locker should be floor vented to stop the build up of LPG in the event of a leak...also throughout your van in various locations should be floor vents...these provide the same safety measures in the event of a leakage around the pipes and fittings...
When a build up of gas is present, this does present an explosive situation...not only this but gas escaping from a vent into open air, can be a very serious situation....if an ignition source is applied...for example...whilst stationary or in slow moving traffic ....
I can assure you that folk who have been subjected to an explosion or a fire within a recreational vehicle are not pretty sights...
Safe travels..
