Yea, take home from that is don't fit anything in the circuit that disconnects ALL load sinks from the alternator as it will kill it.
Seen far too many race cars Killed with the cut off switch in the pits and then wonder why the thing starts spluttering in its fourth lap cos the battery is down to 9v ??
Why WOULD YOU want to fit a lithium as a starter battery though, lead acid is perfect for this task and cheap.
Ideal setup would indeed be DC to DC Charger so that it can limit the inrush current from the alternator.
I see from the specs that maximum charge rate for the TN batteries here from mega store is 50 amps and from my own testing this weekend have seen 70amps in rush at the flat hab battery in my disco. But that is on 50mm2 cable and a seriously heavy duty starter battery.
