Have a look at Fogstar, 15% discount for Funsters.
Just had a look at their 230Ah battery, that's a hefty £127.49 Funster discount. Very nice indeed!

That's over 5 years worth of Funster membership back right there.

These under seat units are a good space saver and excellent customer service and 10yr guarantee from Roamer.

There is no such thing as a quiet generator, especially in peaceful surroundings.
Then you turn it off, no such thing as a quiet prime mover, but I guess you have one…..

and besides the rhythmic hum of a genny is great for sleep

But that’s the whole point….if your next to other MH, you are usually at a site with hook up, so no genny used…..if your off grid, your not near anyone….
Hmmm not when I was beside the guy with the "silent" genny at Station Inn, Ribblehead (not a site). Are you seriously suggesting all off grid areas are one motorhome / van / camper only???

usually is irrelevant in the context of a genny being silent, there's either a genny running or there isn't and they are never silent.
Funny this

for the first time last monday we parked in a bay next to another motorhome, the lovely lady next door knocked on ours to ask if we’d mind them running their engine to charge the batteries up, “not at all” we replied and never really noticed the “rumble”.

Later on when venturing out the husband thanked us and said “ I never thought, I could have run our silent generator”

My first thought was, piston, valves, exhaust, rpm…… yeah 😉😄

TBH it wouldn’t have bothered us eitherway what they ran, that said we’ve never been subjected to hours on end of generators running so our thoughts could well change if we were

The "silent" Hyundai Genny linked to is 54 decibels.
Is 54 decibels "silent" ?

So, not are kids, dogs, humans, or Diesel engines, but it really doesn’t matter…..

been considerate, I would only run it, in the unlikely event that I needed to, when parked close to another MH, for a couple of hours during daylight hours…….

you seem to be making such a big issue out of a non issue, many MH and caravans have generators, use them considerately and everyone is happy……what’s the problem? You buy your thousands of pounds worth of batteries if you want to…..me, I will stick to the convenience of a push button generator.

bye

Not silent, but 54dB is a pretty low noise level, yes you would hear it through the night, but in daytime the ambient noise would make it barely noticeable.

Some of my favourite sites don’t have electric hook ups e.g. Longbeech, New Forest and Totnes, Devon. The option of having pitches without hook ups will increase when we are faced with paying for electricity at the new commercial rates.

You're right it doesn't matter as none of those situations are comparable to someone running a genny that disturbs others.
You may well be considerate, Im sure many genny owners say the same.

As for making a big issue out of a non issue? 1. I'm not and 2. It's not.
I'm not sure where you are getting that many MH and caravans have generators and the problem (not sure why you're asking as its been mentioned several times in the thread) is noise. Simple.

Hi Nick,

I hope you are well.

We have dropped our prices across the board on our leisure batteries so we are no longer able to offer the discount code for Motor Home Fun members unfortunately.

Kind Regards
Lyndsey

b. Please think of others and keep musical instruments, radios, televisions and so on at a considerate noise level. Generators should also be used with consideration for others, please don’t operate them between 6pm and 9am

that’s the CAMC rules……so not most sites?

that said CAMC sites usually have EHU, so no requirement to use my generator…

This is very true 👍😉

But I want to know what the difference is between a Roamer 460ah LifePo4 battery at £1700 and a SuperB 340ah LifePo4 battery at £4200

The cell quality and BMS surely is the only possible difference but £2500 more for 120ah less doesn’t add up

Or does it, will one make me 🥶 and the other 🌞
If you have a 3kw inverter you would be right on the continuous discharge limit with the Roamer as it's only 250A, the SuperB 340ah is 300A, strangely (or possibly not) the SuperB 210ah is 500A continuous so two of those would trump the Roamer for "bang" but not "bucks"

I guess the lower discharge rate for bigger batteries is a heat issue as the SuperB 160ah is rated at 480A, we have 4 of these (one was part of the Lithium pack when we specced the van, one was an additional option and two more were added later) I don't know the total cost  and I don't even want to work it out  but we have a lot of power ;)

Cell type also affects this. Cylindrical cells disperse heat better than prismatic ones. A big capacity battery with compact dimensions may well achieve this by using prismatic cells rather than cylindrical ones.

But you would still get the fumes I assume, and sometimes that is worse than the noise.

Most sites other than CAMC sites don't allow Genny's, is that better.

My mantra when I'm deciding to do something controversial is to ask myself what would happen if everyone was equally inconsiderate. The answer with generators doesn't bear thinking about.

Youve lost me I’m afraid. Who mentioned been inconsiderate? Quite the opposite. Also MH and caravan, yacht and horse box owners do have generators, they exist, and many you really would not know were switched on.

I think many on here seem to have a misconception about built in, push button start generators……perhaps you imaging a construction site one, vibrating away on a pile of bricks etc, the Whisper, Hyundai etc etc makes are the polar opposite to that…

seems I have just suggested a cost option different to spending £4k on batteries and been met by the anti generator brigade……

Must be your ears even the quietest ones are horrible noisy things. They may not be that loud but the constant drone that is so annoying.

Anti noise I think you'll find, just to be accurate. You generalise in the same way you generalise that many of us spend £4000 on batteries. Personally the only one Im considering is £790.50p with member discount which is the equivalent of 3 standard 100ah leisure batteries.

You may well have a point about some motorhomes with built in gennys, they may be quieter as they are built in and likely soundproofed. However in the context of the original poster and your subsequent initial suggestion of a genny, you are suggesting a standalone "silent" (not at all silent) generator, hence the discussion by the "anti generator (noise) brigade"

When I had my yacht, a sense of peace and tranquility swept over me when I turned the engine off and was left with the gentle whisper of a boat under sail. Any genny will, however quiet, have that annoying background drone. Those that take MIL's with them may not notice, of course.
