:). Hi love, I think Anthea Anthea M also meant SHE was catching up with Ian's thread as she has been amazing in fighting being poorly for quite a while. . See Morning Thread.

Lovely to see her posting again... She is an inspiration. Can't wait until I can meet up over coffee Anthea. Biggest hug.

Hi all,,, yes sorry for absence ,, been busy but to be honest, I’m feeling like a bit of a fraud,, no Motorhome anymore and don’t really think your that interested in the run of the mill day to day grind! Lol.

works ok,, been held up with a couple of things, but today I spent the day unloading and moving a half tonne of steel RSJ off a lorry, and round the back of the building with two bits of wood, four lengths of drainage pipe and a handrail ( wood) cut into 2 lengths!! From 10 am till 1,30 but no injuries, no dramas , no mess, just nice and slow and careful wins the day!

I hope your all ok,, and there is no woman involved,, Lololol.

they don’t give great weather this week,, we shall see!! Xxxxxxxxx

If they have not got a crane, the only way I have seen them unload a heavy rsj is slide it off the back till it is on the road, then drive off and let it drop on the ground

yes ivory,, I will post some pics, as I do weekly on my fb page at the end of the week,,, I had Stewart help me today and we got on the back of the lorry and just tipped it off the side with two lengths of wood,, onto a couple of blocks so we could put the drain pipe under it and move it !! It was so heavy though that it flattened the pipe so we had to use small wooden rollers! Lololol

@ianthebuilder can you remind us where to find your facebook page?
Should Ian be otherwise engaged. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

530 kg to be exact,,, 225x225 x 89 ,, it’s a monster!!
6050 long!!!
That’s a seriously heavy bit of steel at 89kg/m Ian. Will be interested to see some pictures with it in situ, and what it is supporting. Unusual to use a Universal Column section for a beam as, for it’s weight, it is less efficient to support loads than using Universal Beam(s). I would have looked to see if a couple of beams side by side would do the same job, with a possible saving in total weight and the bonus of lifting each one in place, and then bolting together. As a Structural Engineer I would always think of the men on site and their safety when designing structures, having spent a lot of time working on construction sites as well as in a design office. Stay safe when putting it in place.
David.

that was my argument David,, rediculous size for the job required! The existing outside skin of brickwork is sitting on the french door frame, no existing Linton,, so not much weight at all! Internal existing Linton is a wooden piece of 6x2 supporting floor joists,

the drawing I have for insertion is a 1200x 1200 wide, 500 ml deep concrete pad,, and two brick or block piers, with pad stones to top!

could have easily been done with goalposts, or indeed two seperate beams,, but no, no one seems to want to do that! Rediculous!

ihope we have no dramas lifting and propping,, it’s a huge piece of steel,, biggest and heaviest I’ve ever put in! Ever!!

Sound like overkill to me Ian

When I did my extension I had some 8m beams think they were 200x145 as it was 10m wide I had 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor then we cut 9x2s into the web to take the floor/ceiling.

Definitely not a fraud Ian.
Motorhome or no motorhome you’re one of the most popular members of Fun and many of us want to keep up with your adventures, and not just the NMC.
Other notable and very frequent posters also don’t own a MoHo at present and it never stops them from having a say or an opinion.
Keep posting or the NMC will be upset..........and we don’t want that. :Eeek:
